All Neotropical primates are arboreal and thus depend on forests for their survival. Arboreality puts many Neotropical primates at risk of extinction due to the high rates of deforestation in the tropics. We assessed the influence of vegetation structure and forest patch attributes on the occurrence of the threatened red-handed howler monkey (Alouatta belzebul) in an Amazonian savanna. Using a sample of 38 forest patches in a region of approximately 2000 km2 in the state of Amapá, northern Brazil, we used logistic regression to find the best predictors of the occurrence of A. belzebul. We assessed patch area, patch isolation, the proportion of seasonally flooded forest in the patch, the density of flooded area palms, forest height, canopy cover, and diameter at breast height of trees. Patch area and palm density were the best predictors of the occurrence of A. belzebul in forest patches, both having a positive effect on the probability of occurrence. Our results indicate that areas of flooded forest in forest patches may be keystone habitats for A. belzebul living in Amazonian savannas. The observed effect of palm density on A. belzebul suggests that this variable is useful for planning conservation actions, including the selection of areas for protection and management strategies for areas inhabited by this primate.  相似文献

This study set out to build a model identifying areas where a positive Net Present Value (NPV) could be obtained from date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) using CLIMEX and six parameters including (a) suitable soil taxonomy and physicochemical soil properties, (b) slopes of less than 10°, (c) land uses suitable for date palm cultivation, (d) availability of roads, (e) availability of water, and (f) low risk of the lethal disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. spp. in the years 2030, 2050, 2070, and 2100 in Iran. Here, we utilized the A2 scenario and two global climate models (GCMs): CSIRO-Mk3.0 (CS) and MIROC-H (MR). Economic feasibility was estimated based on the assumption that the decision to plant date palms by landholders is motivated by a desire to maximize their return to land. Our results indicate that only 5450 km2 of southern Iran will be highly profitable for cultivation of date palm, with NPV > 10,000, while profitable (with NPV between 4200 and 10,000) and moderately profitable (with NPV between 0 and 4200) areas would cover only 500 and 50 km2, respectively, in future. A comparison of mean outputs from the two chosen GCMs and those of the economic and CLIMEX output combination indicates that only about 0.01% of areas from both GCMs will be highly economically viable for cultivation of date palm. In this study we ensure that the predictions become robust, rather than producing hypothetical findings, limited purely to publication.  相似文献

选用节间长、节数和支持木大小作为攀援能力的指标,单株攀援的支持木种类、数量及水平扩展面积作为单株攀援效率的指标,对浙江天童常绿阔叶林中5类12种大中型木质藤本的攀援能力及生态适应性和其中2种藤本单株攀援效率进行了分析,结果发现:1)不同攀援类型的节间长和节数存在显著差异,对支持木大小要求不同,反映出攀援能力在类型间的差异;没有一类藤本兼具所有优势,攀援能力是节间长、节数和支持木大小不同组合的结果;卷须类的广东蛇葡萄(Ampelopsiscantoniensis)和暗色菝葜(Smilaxlanceifoliavar.opaca)节间最长、节数居中、要求较小支持木;枝卷类的香港黄檀(Dalbergiamillettii)节数和支持木大小与卷须类接近,但节间较短;不定根类的中华常春藤(Hederanepalensisvar.sinensis)、扶芳藤(Euonymusfortunei)、薜荔(Ficuspumila)和络石(Trachlospermumjasmi noides)以及吸盘类的异叶爬山虎(Parthnocissusheterophylla)节间最短、但节数最多,要求较大支持木;茎缠绕类的白花野木瓜(Stauntonialeucantha)、羊角藤(Morindaumbellata)、忍冬(Lonicerajaponica)和薯莨(Dioscoreacirrhosa)节间长居中,节数最少,要求中等但幅度较宽的支持木。2 )同类型不同藤本的节间长、节数和支持木大小的差异反映出由非亲缘关系植  相似文献

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The interspecific allometry of maximum plant height (Hmax) with respect to maximum basal stem diameter (Dmax) has been studied for leptocaulis dicot and conifer tree species. In contrast, virtually nothing is known about the interspecific allometry of pachycaulis species. Here, the interspecific allometries for palms, cacti and cycads are reported and compared with those of leptocaulis dicot and conifer tree species to determine whether pachycauly limits Hmax with respect to Dmax. METHODS: Data for each of a total of 1461 pachycaulis and leptocaulis species were gathered from the primary literature. The scaling exponent and the allometric constant of logHmax vs. logDmax reduced major axis regression curves (and their respective 95 % confidence intervals) were used to compare the four species groups. The stem slenderness ratio (Hmax/Dmax = Rmax) for each species was also computed to compare interspecific trends in trunk shape. KEY RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Each of the four species groups is allometrically unique, i.e. no single 'canonical' maximum plant height to stem diameter allometry exists across all four species groups. Although pachycaulis does not intrinsically limit height, height is nevertheless limited by the size range of basal stem diameter occupied by each species group. Pachycaulis species achieve heights comparable to some leptocaulis species by virtue of very high slenderness ratios attended by an absence or paucity of stem branching. The diversity observed for pachycaulis stem allometries is likely the result of the independent evolutionary origins of this growth habit and the different anatomical strategies used to stiffen stems.  相似文献

Aspartate (Asp) and/or glutamate (Glu) have been proposed as putative excitatory transmitters released from synaptic terminals of the olivo-cerebellar climbing fiber afferents to the Purkinje cells. Investigations of the climbing fiber transmitter(s) separately for hemispheres and vermis were performed to examine whether the current controversy over the role of Asp as a neurotransmitter in the climbing fibers may be due to topographic differences. K(+)-induced Ca2(+)-dependent release of endogenous substances was investigated in slices of cerebellar hemisphere and vermis of control rats and those deprived of climbing fibers by 3-acetylpyridine (3-AP) treatment. A release of Asp and Glu, as well as a small but significant release of homocysteic acid (HCA) was confirmed in control rats. Climbing fiber deprivation by 3-AP treatment reduced the stimulated release of Asp by 48% in slices of cerebellar hemispheres, but not in vermis. Climbing fiber deprivation completely abolished the release of HCA in both hemispheres and vermis. The release of HCA, Asp, and Glu from slices of control and climbing fiber-deprived rats evoked by 50 mM K+ was greater than 90% Ca2(+)-dependent. These results support the hypothesis that Asp is a transmitter candidate of the climbing fibers projecting to the cerebellar hemispheres, but not to the vermis, and provide the first evidence that HCA can be linked to a specific pathway.  相似文献

Subtribe Archontophoenicinae belongs to Areceae, the largest of all palm tribes. It includes 15 species distributed in five genera, all found in the south‐western Pacific Region. Archontophoenicinae are rather homogeneous in morphology, making phylogenetic relationships problematic to reconstruct using morphological characters. In this study we investigated phylogenetic relationships in Archontophoenicinae based on all 15 species of the subtribe, using a combination of nine plastid and five nuclear DNA sequence markers. The plastid regions used were the coding rbcL, matK, ndhF and rpoC1 (exon 2) and the non‐coding rps16 intron, atpF‐atpH, psbK‐psbI, trnL‐trnF and trnQ‐rps16. The nuclear regions used were AG1, BRSC, ITS2, PRK and RPB2, which have all proved useful in palm systematics. We compared the phylogenetic hypotheses resulting from the plastid versus nuclear datasets, and combined both datasets to retrieve as much phylogenetic information as possible. Our results strongly support a clade composed of all species of Archontophoenix, Actinokentia, Chambeyronia and Kentiopsis, but raise the question of whether Actinorhytis, the fifth genus, should remain in Archontophoenicinae. Interspecific relationships in ‘core Archontophoenicinae’ still remain incompletely resolved, despite the gene and taxon sampling being substantially greater than in previous studies, and question the monophyly of the New Caledonian genera Chambeyronia and Kentiopsis. © 2014 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2014, 175 , 469–481.  相似文献
