BackgroundMental health is becoming increasingly important in patient outcomes. The patient reported outcome measurement information system (PROMIS) was developed by the NIH to collect outcome data in rapid dynamic fashion on electronic platforms. The potential role of PROMIS in monitoring young total hip arthroplasty (THA) patients is under-investigated. The purpose of this study is to investigate correlations between PROMIS Depression or Anxiety with SF-12 mental component score.MethodsWe identified 223 hips (200 patients) who underwent primary THA over a 30-month period at a single institution. Patients without preoperative PROMIS or SF-12 mental scores, or >50yo were excluded. All data was collected preoperatively and included age, sex, BMI, ASA, PROMIS Depression, PROMIS Anxiety, and SF-12 Mental component score. We considered floor and ceiling effects as significant if >15% of patients responded with the lowest or highest possible score, respectively. Relationships between SF-12 and PROMIS were investigated using correlation (R), and were considered strong if R>0.7.ResultsMean age was 41-years-old, mean ASA category was 2, mean BMI was 30kg/m2, and 54% were female. None of the PROMs showed any floor/ceiling effects at baseline. PROMIS Depression showed a strong correlation to SF-12 Mental (R=-0.72) while PROMIS Anxiety showed a moderate correlation to SF-12 Mental (R=-0.58). Negative linear relationships were observed because a lower PROMIS Depression/Anxiety values indicates less depressive/anxious feelings (inverse of SF-12).ConclusionPROMIS Anxiety and Depression correlate well with SF-12 mental. 1. Recently documented insect declines have caused major concerns and an increased interest in studies using long-term population-monitoring data. 2. Samples from a 12.2-m suction trap were used to examine trends in phenology and abundance of Diptera over four decades. 3. The timing of peak flight has advanced by an average of 17 days, from 23 July in 1974 to 6 July in 2014. 4. The abundance of flies has decreased by 37% over the studied period (from April to September), and peak abundance has decreased by 48%. The flight period has started earlier in recent years, and in 2014, the number of flies was higher in spring until the 31st of May than in 1974. There is a lack of information comparing UV-B radiation conidial sensitivity of the biocontrol agent Clonostachys rosea (Cr) and its target pathogen, Botrytis cinerea (Bc). We investigated the interactions in vitro and on strawberry leaf discs between previously selected Cr and Bc strains tolerant to UV-B radiation. Strawberry leaf discs inoculated with Bc, Cr, or combinations of both fungi were exposed to UV-B doses (2.9, 5.9, and 8.9?kJ?m?2). Incidence and sporulation of both fungi were evaluated, and the Area Under Incidence Progress Curve (AUIPC) and Area Under Sporulation Progress Curve (AUSPC) were calculated. AUIPC and AUSPC of Cr on leaf discs were negatively correlated to increased UV-B. When inoculated alone on leaf discs, Bc was not affected by UV-B, but when inoculated with Cr the incidence and sporulation of Bc were positively correlated to UV-B radiation dose. In the absence of UV-B, Cr reduced incidence and sporulation of Bc. However, the ability of Cr to control Bc was reduced by 20% to 50% with increasing UV-B radiation. Increasing the applied concentration of Cr conidia 10-fold partially overcame the deleterious effects of UV-B on the ability of the biocontrol agent to reduce Bc sporulation in strawberry leaves. The selection of antagonists must fulfil many requirements; besides being active against the specific targeted plant pathogens, they must be cost-effective and have ecological characteristics suitable for the desired use conditions. Accurately assessing the impact of climate changes on tree growth or forest productivity is vital to better understand global carbon cycles. Here, we carried out dendroclimatological research on Yezo spruce (Picea jezoensis var. microsperma) along an elevation gradient in two sites to investigate the effect of rapid warming on spruce growth in northeast China. Results indicated that trees at two low-elevation sites had significantly wider ring widths and higher basal area increment (BAI) compared with high-elevation sites. Ring widths and BAI of Yezo spruce at low elevations showed a clear growth increase during the 1940s–1970s followed by a significant decline after 1980. However, trees at high elevations showed a relatively stable growth during the 1940s–1970s followed by a significant increase after 1980. Rapid warming after 1980 increased the radial growth of Yezo spruce at high-elevation sites, but reduced tree growth at low-elevation sites. Winter precipitation and growing season temperature were positively correlated with radial growth of Yezo spruce at high elevations, but negatively correlated with tree growth at low elevations. A clear pattern of growth and growth-climate relationship changed in 1980. The temperature threshold for determining the impact of climate on Yezo spruce could change with latitude or site. Difference in drought caused by warming may be the main reason for the opposite response of tree growing at different altitudes in northeast China. The mechanism of rapid warming driving contrasting growth at different elevations should also be investigated in other tree species in NE Asia. In the context of future climate warming, our findings are of great significance for tree growth in assessing forest dynamics and carbon cycling. 相似文献
