One of the influential hypotheses invoked to explain why species become invasive following introduction is that release from natural enemies favours a shift in investment from defence to traits enhancing growth and reproduction. Silene latifolia was introduced from Europe (EU) to North America (NA) c. 200 years ago where it experiences lower damage by natural enemies. A common garden experiment in EU using seeds from 20 EU and 20 NA populations revealed (1) genetically‐based differences in life history between plants from EU and NA; plants from NA have evolved a weedy phenotype that flowers earlier, and has a two‐ to threefold higher reproductive potential; (2) higher susceptibility of NA plants to fungal infection, fruit predation, and aphid infestation. These results suggest that the invasive NA phenotype has evolved at the expense of defensive abilities. Despite this increased susceptibility to enemies, NA populations still outperformed EU populations in this common garden.  相似文献

Chromobacterium violaceum is a free-living Gram-negative bacterium found in soil and aquatic habitats; abundantly present in the Brazilian Amazon, it is an important example of exploitable microbial diversity of the tropics. In this study, 24 strains from the Brazilian Amazon and ATCC 12472(T) were investigated for biocontrol potential of seven fungi pathogenic to soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merril] seed. Both cells and the supernatants of two Brazilian strains, 07-1 and 27-1, together with ATCC 12472(T) were strongly antagonistic to six out of the seven fungi. The antifungal activity of the Brazilian strains to Fusarium sp., Phomopsis sp. and Cercospora kikuchi was consistently stronger than that of ATCC 12472(T). In addition, the two Brazilian strains, but not ATCC 12472(T), were effective against Corynespora sp., and all three strains and their supernatants were equally effective against Aspergillus sp. and Colletotrichum sp. None of the strains had antifungal activity against Botroyodiplodia sp. Three potential mechanisms related to the antibiosis were investigated: violacein toxicity, cyanide production and chitinolytic activity; however, it was not possible to associate any of them with the antifungal activity. The results highlight the biotechnological potential still to be explored within the poorly characterized microbial biodiversity of the tropics.  相似文献

The competitive exclusion principle postulates that different species can only coexist in sympatry if they occupy distinct ecological niches. The goal of this study was to understand the geographical distribution of three species of Microbotryum anther‐smut fungi that are distantly related but infect the same host plants, the sister species Silene vulgaris and S. uniflora, in Western Europe. We used microsatellite markers to investigate pathogen distribution in relation to host specialization and ecological factors. Microbotryum violaceo‐irregulare was only found on S. vulgaris at high elevations in the Alps. Microbotryum lagerheimii could be subdivided into two genetically differentiated clusters, one on S. uniflora in the UK and the second on S. vulgaris in the Alps and Pyrenees. The most abundant pathogen species, M. silenes‐inflatae, could be subdivided into four genetic clusters, co‐occurring in the Alps, the UK and the Pyrenees, and was found on both S. vulgaris and S. uniflora. All three fungal species had high levels of homozygosity, in agreement with the selfing mating system generally observed in anther‐smut fungi. The three pathogen species and genetic clusters had large range overlaps, but occurred at sites with different elevations, temperatures and precipitation levels. The three Microbotryum species thus do not appear to be maintained by host specialization or geographic allopatry, but instead may occupy different ecological niches in terms of environmental conditions.  相似文献

Sex expression in Silene alba is determined genetically but can be changed in female plants upon infection with the heterobasidiomycete Microbotryum violaceum. This change is not caused by steroids, the classical plant growth regulators, nor by a diffusible morphogen produced and secreted by the fungus. Nor is the production of stamnes in genotypically female flowers caused by the transmission, incorporation and expression of a fungal plasmid since plants regenerated from diseased tissue of genotypically female S. alba did not yield stamen-producing flowers. Neither density gradient centrifugation nor agarose gel electrophoresis of endonuclease restricted DNA from M. violaceum revealed the presence of a plasmid. Southern blots of DNA from S. alba probed with labeled DNA of M. violaceum, however, indicated the presence of homologous, unique sequences absent in non-host plants. Since the same homologous sequences were identified in male and female S. alba, these DNA fragments are not homologous to the coding sequences for male sex expression in S. alba unless they represent genetic elements of the hypothetical gyndyioecious precursor. Two other aspects of the S. alba-M. violaceum interaction have yielded interesting results. M. violaceum grows as sporidia outside of the host, but as short hyphae in planta. The switch from sporidial to hyphal growth is mediated in vitro by hyphal growth factors (HGFs) isolated from aqueous host plant extracts as well as by -tocopherol. In addition to changing the fungal growth form. HGFs may serve as host recognition factors. Siderophore mutants of M. violaceum that accumulated less rhodotorulic acid than wild type also showed reduced or no pathogenicity, indicating that siderophores are an important factor in the host-pathogen interaction.  相似文献

许多致病菌的致病机制依赖于群体感应系统的调控,经实验证明群体感应系统突变或缺失的菌株致病能力显著下降,筛选高效的群体感应抑制剂有望成为解决细菌感染以及细菌耐药性问题的一个有效途径。从海洋软体动物体内分离海洋真菌69株,发酵液粗提物经QSIS2 (Quorum Sensing Inhibitor Selector 2) 筛选模型和紫色杆菌CV026指示菌株筛选后得到编号QY013的粗提物具有群体感应抑制活性,进一步实验表明该粗提物能够显著降低铜绿假单胞菌群体感应调控的毒力因子绿脓菌素的产量,以及紫色杆菌群体感应调控的紫色菌素的产量,且在有效浓度范围内对细菌生长不产生影响。形态学特征和18S rDNA序列分析表明菌株QY013为Penicillium属。文中筛选到一株具有细菌群体感应抑制活性的海洋来源真菌,其发酵液粗提物中的有效活性成分可用于新型抗菌药物的研究。  相似文献

一株水稻纹枯菌拮抗细菌的分离与鉴定   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
【目的】从土壤中分离并鉴定水稻纹枯菌拮抗细菌,测定其体外抑菌和温室防治效果。【方法】采用系列稀释法和平板对峙法筛选拮抗细菌,基于形态、生理特征及16S rDNA序列鉴定其分类地位,采用种子细菌化温室试验测定其防效。【结果】从蔬菜根际土壤中筛选出一株纹枯菌拮抗细菌,命名为kwkjT4。菌株具有明显的体外抑菌活性,对水稻纹枯病的温室防效与井冈霉素相当,初步鉴定为假紫色色杆菌(Chromobacterium pseudoviolaceum)。最适生长条件为pH 7.0,温度32°C,培养时间为36 h;抑菌活性物质产生的最适培养条件为pH 6.0,温度28°C,培养时间为48 h;表明两者并不一致。【结论】kwkjT4菌株在水稻纹枯病的生物防治中具有潜在的应用价值。这是C.pseudoviolaceum拮抗纹枯菌的首次报道。  相似文献

对紫花单瓣木槿、紫花重瓣木槿和牡丹木槿在叶和花部性状上的发育可塑性研究表明,三个种下类群,特别是紫花单瓣木槿和牡丹木槿的叶片性状具有很大的发育可塑性,但花部性状的发育可塑性则相对很小,暗示着花部性状较叶片性状具有更大的分类价值。通过种下类群间表型性状的比较,发现牡丹木槿在叶缘、叶柄长度、花色、花冠直径、花梗长度、果实长宽比等性状上都与其它两个类群存在显著差异,从而建议将牡丹木槿确立为亚种(H. syriacus Linn. subsp. paeoniflorus (Gagnep.)G. R. Shi)  相似文献

Aims: Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) with enhanced physicochemical properties will be ideal for a wide range of practical applications. The incorporation of 3‐hydroxy‐4‐methylvalerate (3H4MV) into the polymer backbone is known to improve the overall properties of the resulting polymer. However, the most suitable micro‐organism and PHA synthase that can synthesize this monomer efficiently still remain unknown at present. Therefore, we evaluated the abilities of a locally isolated Chromobacterium sp. USM2 to produce PHA containing 3H4MV. Methods and Results: The ability of Chromobacterium sp. USM2 to synthesize poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐3‐hydroxy‐4‐methylvalerate) [P(3HB‐co‐3H4MV)] was evaluated under different culture conditions. It was found that Chromobacterium sp. USM2 can synthesize P(3HB‐co‐3H4MV) when glucose and isocaproic acid were fed as carbon source. However, the highest molar fraction of 3H4MV, 22 mol% was detected in Chromobacterium sp. USM2 when isocaproic acid was provided as the sole carbon source. In addition, aeration was identified as a crucial factor in initiating the accumulation of high 3H4MV molar fractions. Conclusions: Chromobacterium sp. USM2 was able to synthesize broad comonomer compositional distribution of P(3HB‐co‐3H4MV). Significance and Impact of the Study: Compared with Cupriavidus necator and Burkholderia sp., Chromobacterium sp. USM2 was found to have better ability to bioconvert isocaproic acid to form 3H4MV unit.  相似文献

Aim: Chromobacterium are saprophytes that cause highly fatal opportunistic infections. Identification and strain differentiation were performed to identify the strain variability among the environmental samples. We have evaluated the suitability of individual and combined methods to detect the strain variations of the samples collected in different seasons. Methods and Results: Amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis (ARDRA) and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) profiles were obtained using four different restriction enzyme digestions (AluI, HaeIII, MspI and RsaI) and five random primers. A matrix of dice similarity coefficients was calculated and used to compare these restriction patterns. ARDRA showed rapid differentiation of strains based on 16S rDNA, but the combined RAPD and ARDRA gave a more reliable differentiation than when either of them was analysed individually. Conclusion: A high level of genetic diversity was observed, which indicates that the Kolli Hills’C. violaceum isolates would fall into at least three new clusters. Significance and Impact of the Study: Results showed a noteworthy bacterial variation and genetic diversity of C. violaceum in the unexplored, virgin forest area.  相似文献
