A new bembrid,Bembras adenensis, is described on the basis of specimens collected from the Gulf of Aden, western Indian Ocean. This species is easily distinguished
fromB. japonica, the only known congener of the genus, by the following combination of characters: larger orbital diameter, longer head length,
pectoral-fin with a small black blotch near tip of upper rays, 3 gill rakers on upper gill arch, 19 pectoral-fin rays, and
15 anal-fin rays (vs. smaller orbital diameter, shorter head length, pectoral-fin with several small spots forming irregular
bands, 2 gill rakers on upper gill arch, usually 17 pectoral-fin rays, and 14 anal-fin rays inB. japonica). 相似文献

The fatty acid and sterol compositions of five species of marine dinoflagellates (Scrippsiella sp. Symbiodinium microadriaticum Freud, Gymnodinium sp., Gymnodinium sanguineum Hirasaki, and Fragilidium sp.) are reported. All contained the major fatty acids that are considered common in dinoflagellates, but the proportions were quite variable, and some species contained low contents of some polyunsaturated fatty acids. Concentration ranges for the major fatty acids were: 16:0 (9.0%–24.8%), 18:4(n-3) (2.5%–11.5%), 18:5(n-3) (7.0%–43.1%), 20:5(n-3) (EPA) (1.8%–20.9%), and 22:6(n-3) (DHA) (9.9%– 26.3%). Small amounts of novel very-long-chain highly unsaturated C28 fatty acids occurred in all species. Each dinoflagellate contained a complex mixture of 4-methyl sterols and 4-desmethyl sterols. Four species contained cholesterol, although the amounts were highly variable (from 0.2% of total sterols in Scrippsiella sp. to 45.6% in Fragilidium sp.). All but G. sanguineum contained the 4-methyl sterol dinosterol, and all species contained sterols lacking a double bond in the ring system (i.e. stanols); in Scrippsiella sp. cholestanol composed 24.3% of the total sterols. Other common features of the 4-methylsterol profiles were the presence of 23,24-dimethyl alkylation and unsaturation at Δ22 in the side chain. In Scrippsiella sp., four steroidal ketones were identified: cholestanone, dinosterone, 4α,23,24-trimethyl-5α-cholest-8(14)-en-3-one, and dinostanone. The structures of these corresponded to the major sterols in this species, suggesting that the sterols and steroidal ketones are biosynthetically linked. Steroidal ketones were not detected in the other species. Although fatty acid profiles can be used to distinguish among algal classes, they were not useful for differentiating among dinoflagellate species. In contrast, whereas some taxonomic groupings of dinoflagellates display similar sterol patterns, others, such as the gymnodinoids studied here, clearly do not. The combination of fatty acid, sterol, and steroidal ketone profiles may be useful complementary chemotaxonomic tools for distinguishing morphologically similar species. The identification of steroidal ketones supports earlier suggestions that certain dinoflagellates might be a significant source of such components in marine environments. 相似文献

Large miliolid foraminifers bear various types of algal endosymbionts including chlorophytes, dinoflagellates, rhodophytes, and diatoms. Symbiosis plays a key role in the adaptation of large foraminifera to survival and growth in oligotrophic seas. The identity and diversity of foraminiferal symbionts, however, remain largely unknown. In the present work we use ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sequences to identify chlorophyte endosymbionts in large miliolid foraminifera of the superfamily Soritacea. Partial 18S and complete Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) rDNA sequences were obtained from symbionts of eight species representing all genera of extant chlorophyte-bearing Soritacea. Phylogenetic analysis of the sequences confirms the previous fine structure-based identification of these endosymbionts as belonging to the genus Chlamydomonas. All foraminiferal symbionts form a monophyletic group closely related to Chlamydomonas noctigama. The group is composed of seven types identified in this study, including one previously morphologically described species, Chlamydomonas hedleyi. Each of these types can be considered as a separate species, based on the comparison of genetic differences observed between other established Chlamydomonas species. Several foraminiferal species share the same symbiont type, but only one species, Archaias angulatus, was found to bear more than one type. 相似文献

A new species of early vascular land plant, Estinnophyton yunnanense , is described from the Lower Devonian (upper Pragian) Posongchong Formation at Zhichang village, Gumu Town, Wenshan District, Yunnan Province, China. This plant possesses aerial stems with isotomous branching. The leaves are slender, once- or twice-bifurcated, and arranged in low spirals or pseudowhorls. Fertile leaves are morphologically identical to the vegetative ones, clustered on the axis, forming a loose strobilus-like structure. There are three to six fertile leaves in each gyre. Two ovoid-elongate sporangia are singly attached to the adaxial surface each subtended by a recurved stalk, either at the base of each segment in a once-bifurcate fertile leaf or below the points of successive divisions in a twice-bifurcate fertile leaf. Estinnophyton yunnanense differs from two other species described previously from Europe, E . gracile and E . wahnbachense , mainly in possessing two single stalked sporangia on each fertile leaf rather than two pairs of sporangia, as well as in the dimensions of its leaves. In view of the complex taxonomy and nomenclature surrounding the type material of Estinnophyton , we considered possible emendation of the generic diagnosis based on the new Chinese material. Following comparison with typical members of the Protolepidodendrales and other taxa, Estinnophyton is considered to have had a closer affinity with primitive sphenopsids than the protolepidodendralean lycopsids. A comparison between Chinese and European floras containing Estinnophyton indicates that South China and Western Europe had floristic elements in common although they were in different phytogeographical units during the Early Devonian epoch. © 2004 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2004, 146 , 201–216. 相似文献

We have isolated a new Chlamydomonas reinhardtii Dangeard (Chlamydomonadales, Chlorophyceae) mutant with from one up to more than four eyespots cell?1. It was designated mes (multiple eyespots)‐10 A wild‐type cell has a single eyespot, located under the chloroplast envelope, at a certain position near the cell's equator where the chloroplast envelope is in contact with the cell membrane. The eyespot(s) in mes‐10, however, are located at various positions on its chloroplast. The mes‐10 cells displayed negative phototaxis to 480–500 nm light. This behavior differed from that of a similar mutant, ptx4, which has been shown to have multiple eyespots and display no phototaxis (Pazour et al., J. Cell Biol. 1995; 131 : 427–40). Mes‐10 may retain a functional photoreceptor and a photosignal transduction system independently of its multiple eyespots. This mutant should be useful for studying how C. reinhardtii responds to light signals, as well as how eyespots are formed in the cell. 相似文献

The ultrastructure, morphology and life cycle of a new chlorarachniophyte alga collected from Okinawa in Japan have been studied. The life cycle of this alga consists of amoeboid, wall‐less round, coccoid and flagellated cells in culture condition; however, the coccoid and flagellate cells are very rare. The pyrenoid ultra‐structure of this alga is the same as that of a previously described species, Lotharella globosa. Since pyrenoid ultrastructure has been adopted as the main criterion for the generic classification of the chlorarachniophytes, the present alga is placed in Lotharella. However, the present alga has a dominant amoeboid cell stage and a reduced walled‐cell stage in the life cycle, while in L. globosa, the walled‐cell stage is dominant and there is no amoeboid cell stage. Therefore the present alga is described as a new species of Lotharella: Lotharella amoeboformis Ishida et Y. Hara sp. nov. 相似文献

Domoic acid (DA), a neuroexcitatory amino acid, was detected in batch culture of the newly recognized species Nitzschia navis-varingica Lundholm et Moestrup . The production of DA by this diatom was confirmed by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The diatom was collected from a shrimp-culture pond in Do Son, Vietnam. The production of DA (1.7 pg·cell − 1 ) is within the levels reported for Pseudo-nitzschia multiseries (Hasle) Hasle. The DA production started during the late exponential growth phase and reached a maximum during the early stationary growth phase. Maximum DA levels in the axenic culture decreased to about half that of the nonaxenic culture (0.9 pg·cell − 1 vs. 1.7 pg·cell − 1 ), suggesting that DA production by the new species is influenced by bacteria. 相似文献

Two new species of brown algae (Phaeophyceae), Padina moffittiana Abbott et Huisman, sp. nov. and Cutleria irregularis Abbott et Huisman, sp. nov., are described from the Hawaiian Islands (between 19°04′N, 155°35′W and 28°25′N, 178°20′W). In addition, the new combination Cutleria canariensis is proposed for Aglaozonia canariensis. New observations are presented on Nereia intricata Yamada, a species described 67 years ago and known only from its type specimen. New records of a further 14 species are given for the Hawaiian Islands. These 17 taxa bring the total number of species of brown algae recorded for the Hawaiian Islands to 55, an increase of 28%. Of the 15 new records, two are recent ‘accidental’ introductions: Dictyota flabellata (Collins) Setchell et Gardner and Sargassum muticum (Yendo) Fensholt from California. Six records are notable because of their great distances from previously known collections: Nereia intricata Yamada from the Ryukyu Is., Japan; Discosporangium mesarthrocarpum (Meneghini) Hauck, from the Adriatic, Mediterranean, warm Atlantic and southern Australia; Distromium flabellatum Womersley, Spatoglossum macrodontum J. Agardh, and Sporochnus moorei Harvey, from Australia; Desmarestia ligulata (Lightfoot) Lamouroux from temperate and colder waters in the Pacific and Atlantic. A comparison with some Japanese species of Padina confirms that Padina japonica Yamada should be subsumed with Padina sanctae‐crucis Børgesen, as proposed earlier. 相似文献
