Although many of the statistical techniques used in comparative biology were originally developed in quantitative genetics, subsequent development of comparative techniques has progressed in relative isolation. Consequently, many of the new and planned developments in comparative analysis already have well‐tested solutions in quantitative genetics. In this paper, we take three recent publications that develop phylogenetic meta‐analysis, either implicitly or explicitly, and show how they can be considered as quantitative genetic models. We highlight some of the difficulties with the proposed solutions, and demonstrate that standard quantitative genetic theory and software offer solutions. We also show how results from Bayesian quantitative genetics can be used to create efficient Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms for phylogenetic mixed models, thereby extending their generality to non‐Gaussian data. Of particular utility is the development of multinomial models for analysing the evolution of discrete traits, and the development of multi‐trait models in which traits can follow different distributions. Meta‐analyses often include a nonrandom collection of species for which the full phylogenetic tree has only been partly resolved. Using missing data theory, we show how the presented models can be used to correct for nonrandom sampling and show how taxonomies and phylogenies can be combined to give a flexible framework with which to model dependence.  相似文献

采用RT-PCR技术,克隆了小麦胞质顺乌头酸酶基因(cACO)部分cDNA序列.该cDNA序列长1368bp,编码456个氨基酸,GenBank登录号为GU475062.半定量RT-PCR结果表明,在生理型不育和可育花药发育的单核早期至三核期,cACO基因的表达水平均表现为先升后降;在生理型不育花药发育的单核晚期cACO基因表达水平与同期可育花药相比显著升高,到二核期和三核期明显降低,ACO酶活性变化表现出相同趋势.这反映出在小麦生理型不育系中,cACO基因在花药败育关键期异常表达可能影响了花药发育过程中正常的能量供应和物质代谢,导致花粉发育能量不足和所需物质匮乏,从而导致了非遗传型花药败育现象.  相似文献

本文采用聚丙烯酰胺凝胶垂直板电泳法,对中国十个不同地理品系卤虫的十种同工酶进行了研究。分析了编码七种多态酶的19个座位、42个等位基因,用Nei(1972、1975)的方法计算各地理品系卤虫的遗传相似系数、遗传距离和平均杂合度并进行聚类分析。实验和分析结果证明十个不同地理品系的卤虫可分为A.parthenogenetica和有性品系A.sp.两大姊妹种;十种同工酶中三种酶为单态酶,七种为多态酶;雌雄个体无电泳差异。  相似文献

尿液在大熊猫化学通讯过程中具有重要作用。对大熊猫尿液中化学成分的检测是揭示大熊猫尿液中化学物质组成及其功能的关键。本实验通过使用顶空固相微萃取技术(Headspace-solid phase microextraction,HSSPME)对大熊猫尿液样品进行前期处理,继而利用气相色谱- 质谱联用技术(Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry,GC / MS)对大熊猫尿液中化学成分进行检测。共检测到56 个峰,通过在NIST (National Institute of Standards
and Technology)质谱库中进行检索,初步推定出其中的38 种物质。除此之外,还对HS - SPME 萃取头的净化方法进行了探索和改进。结果表明,顶空固相微萃取技术结合气相色谱- 质谱联用技术能够应用于大熊猫尿液中挥发性与半挥发性化合物的检测,并且能够得到较好的实验结果,为揭示大熊猫化学通讯机理提供基础。  相似文献

This paper proposes a research strategy for examining laypeople's thoughts and reflections on innovations in the science of race and genetics. While some sociologists have shown a reluctance to engage in such discussions, this paper argues that social scientists need to take such views seriously. To do this, the paper brings together an anthropological approach to the study of scientific literacy and recent scholarship in the field of Whiteness studies. The combining of these literatures raises a set of interesting and sometimes uncomfortable questions about the ways in which social scientists and research participants contribute to the reproduction of White power and dominance in Western societies.  相似文献

Fitness trade‐offs across episodes of selection and environments influence life‐history evolution and adaptive population divergence. Documenting these trade‐offs remains challenging as selection can vary in magnitude and direction through time and space. Here, we evaluate fitness trade‐offs at the levels of the whole organism and the quantitative trait locus (QTL) in a multiyear field study of Boechera stricta (Brassicaceae), a genetically tractable mustard native to the Rocky Mountains. Reciprocal local adaptation was pronounced for viability, but not for reproductive components of fitness. Instead, local genomes had a fecundity advantage only in the high latitude garden. By estimating realized selection coefficients from individual‐level data on viability and reproductive success and permuting the data to infer significance, we examined the genetic basis of fitness trade‐offs. This analytical approach (Conditional Neutrality‐Antagonistic Pleiotropy, CNAP) identified genetic trade‐offs at a flowering phenology QTL (costs of adaptation) and revealed genetic trade‐offs across fitness components (costs of reproduction). These patterns would not have emerged from traditional ANOVA‐based QTL mapping. Our analytical framework can be applied to other systems to investigate fitness trade‐offs. This task is becoming increasingly important as climate change may alter fitness landscapes, potentially disrupting fitness trade‐offs that took many generations to evolve.  相似文献

We investigated the influence of differing life history traits on the genetic structure of the related species Mimetes fimbriifolius and Mimetes hirtus (Proteaceae), which occur in the South African fynbos. Both species are bird‐pollinated and ant‐dispersed, but differ in rarity, longevity, ecological strategy and the fragmentation of their distribution area. We used AFLPs to study genetic variation within and between 21 populations of these two species across their distribution range. AFLP analysis revealed significantly higher genetic variation within populations of M. fimbriifolius than within M. hirtus. While M. fimbriifolius clearly lacked any significant genetic differentiation between populations, a distinct geographic pattern was observed for M. hirtus. Differentiation was, however, stronger at the regional (ΦPT = 0.57) than at the local scale (ΦPT = 0.08). Our results clearly indicate that even closely related species that share the same mode of pollination and seed dispersal can differ in their genetic structure, depending on the magnitude of fragmentation, longevity of individuals and ecological strategy.  相似文献

A collection of 4117 fertile T‐DNA lines has been generated by Agrobacterium‐mediated transformation of the diploid community standard line Bd21 of Brachypodium distachyon. The regions flanking the T‐DNA left and right borders of the first 741 transformed plants were isolated by adapter‐ligation PCR and sequenced. A total of 1005 genomic sequences (representing 44.1% of all flanking sequences retrieved) characterized 660 independent T‐DNA loci assigned to a unique location in the Brachypodium genome sequence. Seventy‐six percent of the fertile plant lines contained at least one anchored T‐DNA locus (1.17 loci per tagged line on average). Analysis of the regions flanking both borders of the T‐DNA increased the number of T‐DNA loci tagged and the number of tagged lines by approximately 50% when compared to a single border analysis. T‐DNA integration (2.4 insertions per Mb on average) was proportional to chromosome size, however, varied greatly along each chromosome with often low insertion level around centromeres. The frequency of insertion within transposable elements (5.3%) was fivefold lower than expected if random insertion would have occurred. More than half of the T‐DNAs inserted in genic regions. On average, one gene could be tagged for every second fertile plant line produced and more than one plant line out of three contained a T‐DNA insertion directly within or 500 bp around the coding sequence. Approximately, 60% of the genes tagged corresponded to expressed genes. The T‐DNA lines generated by the BrachyTAG programme are available as a community resource and have been distributed internationally since 2008 via the BrachyTAG.org web site.  相似文献

The monk parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus) is a successful invasive species that does not exhibit life history traits typically associated with colonizing species (e.g., high reproductive rate or long‐distance dispersal capacity). To investigate this apparent paradox, we examined individual and population genetic patterns of microsatellite loci at one native and two invasive sites. More specifically, we aimed at evaluating the role of propagule pressure, sexual monogamy and long‐distance dispersal in monk parakeet invasion success. Our results indicate little loss of genetic variation at invasive sites relative to the native site. We also found strong evidence for sexual monogamy from patterns of relatedness within sites, and no definite cases of extra‐pair paternity in either the native site sample or the examined invasive site. Taken together, these patterns directly and indirectly suggest that high propagule pressure has contributed to monk parakeet invasion success. In addition, we found evidence for frequent long‐distance dispersal at an invasive site (~100 km) that sharply contrasted with previous estimates of smaller dispersal distance made in the native range (~2 km), suggesting long‐range dispersal also contributes to the species’ spread within the United States. Overall, these results add to a growing body of literature pointing to the important role of propagule pressure in determining, and thus predicting, invasion success, especially for species whose life history traits are not typically associated with invasiveness.  相似文献
