A purulent laryngeal air sac infection was diagnosed in a free-ranging adult male mountain gorilla (Gorilla gorilla beringei) in Central Africa. Successful treatment included the administration of antibiotics via blow dart and surgical drainage in the field. This case occurred during an outbreak of respiratory disease of undetermined etiology in this and other gorillas in the population.  相似文献

Recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhG-CSF) was investigated for its clinical efficacy in the treatment of various types of neutropenia (3 cases with idiopathic neutropenia of suspected drug induction, 5 cases with idiopathic neutropenia of other origin, and 2 cases with cyclic neutropenia). Treatment with glycosylated rhG-CSF produced in the Chinese Hamster Ovary cells at dose levels of 2–5g/kg/day caused rapid increases of neutrophil counts associated with an improvement of the infection. In cyclic neutropenia patients, marked reduction in the duration of the neutropenic period was observed with rhG-CSF administration started before the period. Intercurrent stomatitis, which occurred in 1 patient, was markedly milder as compared to a previous episode which occurred during an untreated neutropenic period.The treatment of rhG-CSF was well tolerated and no adverse events were observed, nor was there any detectable anti-rhG-CSF antibody in any patients studied; hence the clinical use of rhG-CSF is considered to be safe.These results suggest beneficial effects of rhG-CSF on the recovery of neutrophil counts in cyclic and other types of idiopathic neutropenias, as well as for the treatment of neutropenia-associated infection.  相似文献

本文用临床上厌氧菌感染中最常见的B.f(脆弱类杆菌)与兼性菌中最常见的E.c(大肠杆菌)作混合感染致病协同性研究的模式菌株,从定量角度建立小鼠皮下脓肿的感染模型。结果表明,单独在昆明小鼠皮下接种B.f 10~7(CFu/m)后1/10发生脓肿,10~8与10~9菌量分别有3/10及6/10发生脓肿。B.f的CP(荚膜多糖)提取物125μg、250μg、500μg,其脓肿形成率分别为1/10、2/10和4/10。单独注射E.c10~6~10~7菌量时,无脓肿及死亡发生。10~8时3/10小鼠死亡,脓肿不典型。引起感染的菌量阈值B.f为10~7,E.c为10~8。B.f致病特征为引起脓肿,E.c为引起死亡。混合感染两种菌浓度均在10~7时,5/10发生脓肿,2/10发生死亡。在感染灶中两种菌浓度总数分别保持在≥10~7。B.f与E.c混合感染时有明显的协同致死与协同致脓肿效应。  相似文献

Gross hyperplasia of the gastric mucosa and excessive mucus production in the stomach occur in rats heavily parasitized with larvae of Taenia taeniaeformis. In this study, a positive correlation between the number of larvae recovered from hepatic cysts and the weight of the stomachs of infected rats was found. By light microscopy, the hyperplasia was restricted to the glandular mucosa. Parietal and chief cells were very rare, and densely PAS-positive mucous cells were the major cell types in the hyperplastic stomach while, in comparison, alcian blue-positive cells were much fewer in number. The isolated gastric mucosa in organ culture had an increased [3H]thymidine incorporation rate in rats infected with T. taeniaeformis. The hexosamine concentration per milligram protein in the hyperplastic stomach mucosa was twice that in the control rat stomach mucosa. By electron microscopy, the apical cytoplasm of the mucous cells was found to be filled with small dark granules. These results indicate that the gastric hyperplasia is caused by stimulation of growth and major differentiation of stem cells to neutral mucus-producing cells.  相似文献

Abstract Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Men) plants were grown under controlled conditions in an experiment designed as a 4 × 4 factorial. The factors were N or P nutrition, with different strains of Rhizobium japonicum or N-fertilization as levels of the first factor and different species of vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi or P fertilization as levels of the other. Organisms used were R. japonicum strains USDA 110, USDA 136, and 61A118, and the VAM fungi Glomus versiforme (Karst.) Berch, Glomus fasciculatum (Thaxt. sensu Gerd.) Gerd. and Trappe, and Glomus mosseae (Nicol. & Gerd.) Gerd. and Trappe. There were 16 treatments: nine Rhizobium + Glomus combinations, three Rhizobium + V and three Glomus+ N combinations, and one non-symbiotic set of plants supplied with N + P. The tripartite symbioses were evaluated by analysis of variance against the Rhizobium + P and Glomus + N comparison treatments for effects on root and leaf dry mass, root N and P content, nodule mass and activity, and VAM colinization. Significant to highly significant main effects and interactions were found in virtually all evaluations due to both Rhizobium strain and VAM–fungal species. We conclude that different endophyte isolates affect not only the host plant, but also the development and function of their co-endophytes. These findings establish the existence of inter-endophyte compatibility, an important consideration when selecting or engineering for desirable endophyte traits.  相似文献

新生豚鼠皮下接种豚鼠巨细胞病毒(GPCMV)后,导致动物胸腺急性感染。感染豚鼠胸腺在接种后第五天开始出现病毒,第十天达高峰。此外,感染动物胸腺的发育受到抑制,细胞总数和T淋巴细胞数随朐腺中病毒滴度的增高而进行性下降,至接种GPCMV后第十天最显著。由于病毒对T细胞的作用,细胞表面红细胞受体的丧失导致胸腺Null细胞百分比高于对照动物。  相似文献

Two-wk-old broiler chicks were inoculated via crop intubation withEimeria acervulina at two doses: 105 or 106 sporulated oocysts/bird or withEimeria tenella at a dose of 105 sporulated oocysts/bird. Serum and liver samples were collected on days 3 and 6 post-inoculation (PI). There were no significant changes in serum or liver zinc, copper, and iron concentrations in any of the infected groups by 3 d PI. However, on d 6, PI serum protein was significantly reduced in all of the infected groups compared to their pair-fed controls. The chicks infected withE. tennella had significantly reduced serum zinc (1.20 vs 1.77 μg/mL) and iron (0.44 vs 1.28 μg/mL) concentrations and significantly elevated serum copper (0.28 vs 0.17 μg/mL) and ceruloplasmin levels (20.33 vs 11.11 μg/mL) compared to their pair-fed counterparts. Those chicks infected withE. acervulina (106 oocysts/bird) exhibited significantly reduced serum iron concentration by 6 days PI (0.90 vs 1.14 μg/mL). Liver zinc was significantly increased in the chicks infected withE. tenella (349 vs 113 μg/g dry liver wt), as was copper (24 vs 19 μg/g), whereas liver iron concentration was significantly reduced (172 vs 243 μg/g) compared to pair-fed controls. At both dose levels, the chicks infected withE. acervulina exhibited a significant reduction in liver iron by 6 d PI. Hepatic cytosol metals generally reflected whole tissue levels. Metallothionein (MT)-bound zinc was significantly elevated in the chicks infected withE. tenella. Iron bound to a high molecular weight, heat-stable protein fraction (presumably cytoplasmic ferritin) was significantly reduced in chicks infected withE. acervulina, as well as those infected withE. tenella. Collectively, the changes in serum zinc, copper, and iron concentrations, as well as the changes in hepatic zinc and MT-zinc concentrations in the chicks infected withE. tenella were similar to changes evoked during an acute phase response to infection. It is possible that a secondary bacterial infection or inflammation stemming from erosion of the lining of the cecum may play a role in the response of trace element metabolism to theE. tenella infection. Advanced immunological technology has revealed immunological abnormalities not only in some chronic and autoimmune connective tissue disorders but also in conditions like infective arthritis where infection apparently seems to play the only role. On the other hand role of infection in the pathogenesis of some connective tissue disorders has recently gained much importance from the observation of clinical, pathological and immunological similarities between these diseases and certain infectious diseases occurring in animal models. Meanwhile, knowledge gained into human leucocyte-A system and its association with certain diseases opens another angle in etiopathogenesis of certain rheumatic diseases. It has been postulated that adaptive mechanism of a microbe or the binding between the human leucocyte-A molecule and carbohydrate moiety of a microbe may set up an autoimmune reaction and in the presence of some triggering factors in the environment may lead on to disease manifestations. An attempt has been made to discuss the role of infection in the outcome of rheumatic diseases such as septic arthritis, polyarteritis nodosa, rheumatic fever, enteropathic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematoses in genetically susceptible individuals producing immunological abnormalities.  相似文献

Summary The effect of soil volume and plant density on mycorrhizal infection and growth response was studied with onion. There was a significant negative correlation between percentage vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal infection and root density. The growth response due to mycorrhiza decreased when less soil was available for the plant. The root: shoot ratio decreased with increasing plant density in both mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal plants. Pot size did not affect the root: shoot ratio.  相似文献
