Summary The leptomeningeal tissue of the choroid plexuses and of the brain surfaces have been studied by means of the freeze-etching technique. The pia-arachnoid membrane and the subdural neurothel represent the morphological barrier between the extracerebral tissue and the cerebrospinal compartment. The freeze-etch findings indicate that the arachnoid and neurothelial cells are coupled by extensive zonulae occludentes which seem to represent the structural basis of the barrier mechanism provided by these cell layers. Furthermore, it became evident that gap junctions of considerable structural heterogeneity occur on the pial and arachnoid cells of the interstitial choroidal compartment and of the free brain surfaces. The structural heterogeneity of the nexuses is taken as an indication of the plasticity of the leptomeningeal tissue. The different morphological characteristics of the nexal formations are discussed with respect to their probable functional meaning.This investigation was supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft SFB 114 (Bionach). 相似文献

Summary Following exposure to tritiated 5-HTP, silver grains were observed over the perikarya of the GSCs (Giant serotonin cells) of Helix pomatia and other known serotonin-containing neurones in light and electron microscope autoradiograms. There was no indication that the 5-HTP was taken up by nerve endings or by non-nervous structures. The distribution of radioactivity was completely different in autoradiograms of tissue exposed to tritiated serotonin. Silver grains, often in very high concentrations, were observed only over certain fine axon branches and processes thought to be nerve endings. Electron microscope autoradiography showed that these processes contained small dense-cored vesicles, morphologically identical to those thought to sequester serotonin in the perikarya of the GSCs. The accumulation of tritiated tryptophan was less specific; all the neurone perikarya showed an accumulation of radioactivity after exposure to this substance.We are grateful to Professor J. F. Influence of aspect and stand age on ground flora of southeastern Ohio forest ecosystems 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The species composition and diversity of the ground flora (vascular plants less than one meter in height excluding tree seedlings) were compared between sixteen mesic northeast-facing and sixteen dry southwest-facing middle slopes in southeastern Ohio. On each aspect, eight of the plots were located in second-growth forest stands (70 to 90 years in age) and eight of the plots were located in old-growth forest stands (greater than 150 years in age) in order to determine how the ground flora on opposing slopes varies with time since major disturbance. Physiographic and A horizon characteristics were measured to select comparable plots. Multi-response permutation procedures (MRPP) detected significant differences in the ground-flora species composition of second-growth and old-growth plots on both northeast-facing and southwest-facing slopes. In addition, the ground-flora species composition of northeast-facing plots differed significantly from that of southwest-facing plots. Northeast-facing plots were significantly higher in species richness and Hill's diversity (N1) than southwest-facing plots. Northeast-facing second-growth plots were also significantly higher in species richness and Hill's diversity than northeast-facing old-growth plots. No significant differences in these measures were found between southwest-facing second-growth and old-growth forests plots. Twenty-one species were identified as potential indicators of age, based on their distribution across the plots. Certain species with similar ecological characteristics were found to have similar patterns of occurrence. Further research is needed to determine the extent to which differences in the ground flora of second-growth old-growth reflect the sensitivity of individual species to past disturbance. 相似文献

A bioanalytical assay for the topical corticosteroid clobetasol propionate was developed and validated. For the quantitative assay 0.5 ml human serum samples, supplemented with clobetasone butyrate as internal standard, were extracted with hexane–ether. Evaporated and reconstituted extracts were injected on a polar embedded octadecyl silica column with isocratic elution using formic acid in water–methanol as mobile phase. The eluate was led into the electrospray interface with positive ionization and the analyte was detected and quantified using the selective reaction monitoring mode of a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. The assay was validated in the range 0.04–10 ng/ml, the lowest level of this range being the lower limit of quantification. Precisions were 5–10% and accuracies were between 102 and 109%. The drug was stable under all relevant conditions. Finally, the assay was successfully applied on patients suffering from severe atopic dermatitis treated topically with clobetasol propionate. 相似文献

Sulfur (S) deficiency in soils and plants has been increased in the recent decade which is reducing crop yield and quality. Unfortunately, no extensive study has been conducted on S nutritional status of plants in Turkey. In this study, soil and plant samples were collected from Çukurova, Central Anatolia and GAP regions where wheat is extensively cultivated. Plant samples either as flag leaf or the whole shoot were collected depending on growth stage of wheat crop at sample collection. Similarly, surface (0–20 cm) and sub-surface (20–40 cm) soil samples were collected from plant sampling sites and a total 963 plant and 1947 soil samples were collected during the study. The S concentration in flag leaf samples varied between 0.18 and 0.67%, 0.11–0.59% and 0.17–0.82% for central Anatolia, Çukurova and GAP regions, respectively. According to S concentration in flag leaf samples, 99% of the plants in Çukurova region were found sufficient in S nutrition. However, 49% of the samples collected from central Anatolia and GAP regions were deficient in S. Critical N:S ratio indicating S nutrition status of plants was lower than the widely accepted critical value of 17. This low N:S ratio was a consequence of deficient N nutrition rather than S nutrition. Moreover, it was observed that plant available SO4-S concentration of soils varied within and among sampled provinces with an average value of 20.6 and 31.6 mg kg−1 for surface and sub-surface samples, respectively. The SO4-S concentration increased with increasing soil depth. The results indicate a significantly positive correlation between S concentration in plant shoot and plant available SO4-S concentration in soils. In conclusion, S-containing fertilizer use in central Anatolia and GAP regions must be considered as an important approach for the prevention of yield and quality losses. Aims
To investigate the role of the melanocortin (MC) system in the framework of the central nucleus of the amygdala (CeA) in the differential effects of the adenosine receptor blocker caffeine on anxiety-like behavior, using the social interaction (SI) test.Main methods
Caffeine was injected intraperitoneally, alone or in combination with alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH), the MC4 receptor agonist RO27-3225 or the antagonist HS014 via the intra-CeA route. The effects of chronic (21 days) caffeine, given alone or concurrently with α-MSH, or RO27-3225, were investigated. The effects of withdrawal of these treatments on SI time were also evaluated. Furthermore, the acute effects of HS014 were investigated in different sets of caffeine-withdrawn mice.Key findings
Acute injection of caffeine, RO27-3225, or α-MSH produced anxiety-like behavior. Prior treatment with α-MSH, or RO27-3225 potentiated the caffeine-induced anxiety-like behavior. Subchronic treatment with HS014 increased the SI time, which was attenuated by caffeine. Chronic administration of caffeine resulted in tolerance to caffeine's anxiogenic effect, while abrupt discontinuation of the treatment produced peak anxiety-like behavior at 72 h post-withdrawal. Concurrent administration of α-MSH, or RO27-3225 with chronic caffeine delayed the development of tolerance and prevented withdrawal-induced anxiety-like behavior. Moreover, acute treatment with HS014 at 72 h post-withdrawal attenuated the anxiety-like behavior.Significance
α-MSH, possibly via MC4 receptor in the neuroanatomical framework of the CeA, may contribute to the acute, chronic and withdrawal actions of caffeine associated with anxiety-like behavior in the neuroanatomical framework of the CeA. 相似文献1000.
Not much is known about the initial events leading to the development of the central nervous system (CNS)-specific autoimmune disorder Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Environmental factors are suspected to trigger the pathogenic events in people with genetic disease susceptibility. Historically, many infectious microbes were linked to MS, but no infection has ever been demonstrated to be the cause of the disease. Recent emerging evidence from animal models of MS suggests a causal link with resident commensal bacteria. Microbial organisms may trigger the activation of CNS-specific, auto-aggressive lymphocytes either through molecular mimicry or via bystander activation. In addition, several gut microbial metabolites and bacterial products may interact with the immune system to modulate CNS autoimmunity. 相似文献
