Fishes show a remarkable diversity of shapes which have been associated with their swimming abilities and anti-predator adaptations. The crucian carp (Carassius carassius) provides an extreme example of phenotypic plasticity in body shape which makes it a unique model organism for evaluating the relationship between body form and function in fishes. In crucian carp, a deep body is induced by the presence of pike (Esox lucius), and this results in lower vulnerability to gape-limited predators, such as pike itself. Here, we demonstrate that deep-bodied crucian carp attain higher speed, acceleration and turning rate during anti-predator responses than shallow-bodied crucian carp. Therefore, a predator-induced morphology in crucian carp enhances their escape locomotor performance. The deep-bodied carp also show higher percentage of muscle mass. Therefore, their superior performance in escape swimming may be due to a combination of higher muscle power and higher thrust.  相似文献

大叶紫花苜蓿下胚轴诱导的愈伤组织在继代培养基上生长快速,易于分散。继代第12d的愈伤组织原生质体的得率为6.5×107/g鲜重。原生质体培养基为SH基本培养基,含有1.0mg/L2,4-0、0.5mg/LBA、2.0g/LCH、2%蔗糖、6%葡萄糖、5mmol/LMES,培养密度为1.0×105/mL。培养至第12d时的原生质体再生细胞植板率为3.7%。由原生质体形成的小愈伤组织在含2.0mg/L2,4-D的MS固体培养基上大量增殖。增殖的愈伤组织转移至2.0mg/L2-ip+0.1mg/LNAA的B5培养基上,形成体细胞胚并发育成完整植株。  相似文献

用金桔茎段为外植体,培养在附加1.0毫克/升BA和0.l毫克/升IBA的MS培养基上,诱导愈伤组织和芽形成。观察了愈伤组织和芽形成过程中的组织细胞学变化。培养一周后,在茎组织切口两端开始膨大,细胞增大和开始分裂。培养两周后,开始形成瘤状愈伤组织。在愈伤组织中有形成层状分生组织、维管组织结节和分生细胞团。培养四周后,表层的分生细胞团分化形成大量芽原基,同时愈伤组织深层也出现分生细胞团。带节茎段可从切口两端的愈伤组织分化形成芽,亦可从叶腋的潜伏芽直接形成芽。  相似文献

Shoot tip, bud, leaf, stem and root explants from bearing trees, offshoots, seedlings, and asexual plantlets ofPhoenix dactylifera L. were cultured on modified Murashige and Skoog nutrient media containing 3 g/l activated charcoal, 100 mg/l 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, 3 mg/l N 6-(Δ2-isopentyl)adenine to obtain callus. Differential morphogenetic responses were obtained from calli dependent on the explant type and parent source. Subcultured shoot tips and leafy lateral buds callus on nutrient media devoid of charcoal and supplemented with 0.1 mg/l α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) produced adventitious plantlets. Subcultured leaf calli produced roots only. Root callus failed to exhibit any morphogenetic response upon subculturing. Undifferentiated non-leafy buds and stem tissues did not give rise to callus, regardless of the parent source. Generally, the best callus and embryogenetic responses from explants were obtained from seedling and plantlet parent sources. Similarly, organogenetic responses such as root formation and shoot development from shoot tips cultured on media containing 10 mg/l NAA were also related to the parent explant source. Many factors could influence progress towards sympatric speciation. Some of the potentially important ones include competition, mate choice and the degree to which alternative sympatric environments (resources) are discrete. What is not well understood is the relative importance of these different factors, as well as interactions among them. We use an individual-based numerical model to investigate the possibilities. Mate choice was modelled as the degree to which male foraging traits influence female mate choice. Competition was modelled as the degree to which individuals with different phenotypes compete for portions of the resource distribution. Discreteness of the environment was modelled as the degree of bimodality of the underlying resource distribution. We find that strong mate choice was necessary, but not sufficient, to cause sympatric speciation. In addition, sympatric speciation was most likely when the resource distribution was strongly bimodal and when competition among different phenotypes was intermediate. Even under these ideal conditions, however, sympatric speciation occurred only a fraction of the time. Sympatric speciation owing to competition on unimodal resource distributions was also possible, but much less common. In all cases, stochasticity played an important role in determining progress towards sympatric speciation, as evidenced by variation in outcomes among replicate simulations for a given set of parameter values. Overall, we conclude that the nature of competition is much less important for sympatric speciation than is the nature of mate choice and the underlying resource distribution. We argue that an increased understanding of the promoters and inhibitors of sympatric speciation is best achieved through models that simultaneously evaluate multiple potential factors.  相似文献

We consider Bayesian methodology for comparing two or more unlabeled point sets. Application of the technique to a set of steroid molecules illustrates its potential utility involving the comparison of molecules in chemoinformatics and bioinformatics. We initially match a pair of molecules, where one molecule is regarded as random and the other fixed. A type of mixture model is proposed for the point set coordinates, and the parameters of the distribution are a labeling matrix (indicating which pairs of points match) and a concentration parameter. An important property of the likelihood is that it is invariant under rotations and translations of the data. Bayesian inference for the parameters is carried out using Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation, and it is demonstrated that the procedure works well on the steroid data. The posterior distribution is difficult to simulate from, due to multiple local modes, and we also use additional data (partial charges on atoms) to help with this task. An approximation is considered for speeding up the simulation algorithm, and the approximating fast algorithm leads to essentially identical inference to that under the exact method for our data. Extensions to multiple molecule alignment are also introduced, and an algorithm is described which also works well on the steroid data set. After all the steroid molecules have been matched, exploratory data analysis is carried out to examine which molecules are similar. Also, further Bayesian inference for the multiple alignment problem is considered.  相似文献

以大麦栽培品种的茎尖、成熟胚为外植体,研究了不同甘露糖浓度对这些外植体愈伤组织诱导和生长的影响。结果表明:甘露糖浓度为20 g/L时,茎尖的叶片伸长和生根受到明显抑制;甘露糖浓度为10 g/L或15 g/L时,成熟胚的愈伤组织诱导率降低50%,甘露糖浓度为20 g/L或25 g/L时,成熟胚愈伤诱导和生长完全受到抑制,因此在以大麦茎尖和成熟胚为外植体的磷酸甘露糖异构酶(PM I)/甘露糖筛选中,可分别以20 g/L、25 g/L甘露糖作筛选压。另外,在培养早期阶段筛选比较适宜。  相似文献

Morphology and aestivation behaviour in some Madagascan acavid land snails   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Nine species of Madagascan acavid land snails were compared in a phylogenetic context. The two most plesiomorphic, Clauator johnsoni and C. moreleti, differ from the others by their high-spired shells, short tentacles, short tails, long necks, and crawling mode of hitching the shell along the ground. In the seven more apomorphic species, the crawling mode is smooth, with the shell resting on the tail, and the relative lengths of tail and shell correlate significantly. Among these seven species, three pairs of closest relatives (Helicophanta petiti and H. uesicalis, H. farafanga and H. souuerbiana, Ampeltta decaryi and A. julii) show evidence of phylogenetic constraints on ranked shell size. Aestivation site (as tentatively inferred from rare data) does not correlate with shell shape or size: burrowers have H/D = 2.7 to 0.6 and D = 70 to 25 mm; arboreals have H/D = 0.8 to 0.5 and D = 70 to 30 mm; the species with both the highest spire and the smallest diameter (C. moreleti) is neither a burrower or an arboreal, but stays on the ground surface. Inferred aestivation sites are randomly distributed phylogenetically. Climate shows no correlation, except that the arborcals are only from humid to wet regimes. Uniform shell colouration occurs only in burrowers (C. johnsoni, H. petiti, H. uestcalis), but disruptive shell colouration occurs in all others, including burrowers (H. farafanga, A. decaryt), ground-surface aestivators (C. moreleti), arboreals (H. souuerbiana, A. julii), and semi-arboreals (Ampefita subfunebris). Among all nine species, burrowers have significantly thicker shells (than their close relatives of similar size), wider bodies, and longer snouts than non-burrowers (H. souuerbiana is exceptional in being arboreal despite its huge size and in having the broad foot and snout of a burrower). Thus, although there is some evidence for phylogenetic constraints, natural selection for aestivation and crawling behaviours seems to have dominated the evolution of external body morphology and of shell thickness (but not shell size and shape) in these snails.  相似文献
