Polynuclear self-assembly molecules of general formula [{Pd(en)}x(ligand)y](NO3)2x (A) undergo ligand exchange reaction when heated in DMSO. A mixture of [Pdm(ligand)n](NO3)2m (B) and [Pd(en)2](NO3)2 (C) is generated in this process. The binuclear compound (A) containing a bidentate, non-chelating ligand 1,4-bis(4′-pyridylmethyl)-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzene, is subjected to ligand exchange where upon the compound (A) remains in a dynamic equilibrium with the mixture of ensuing (B) and (C). Combination of separately prepared (B) and (C) also generates (A), thus equilibrium of (A) with (B) and (C) is again observed. We predict [{Pd(bpy)}x(ligand)y](NO3)2x (A′) where 2,2′-bipyridyl (bpy) is the cis-protecting group would not probably undergo ligand exchange. The idea was conceived from the fact that (bpy) is more rigid compared to (en) moreover one of the expected products in the event of ligand exchange [Pd(bpy)2](NO3)2 (C′) is not really very stable unlike (C). In fact, when (A′) is heated in DMSO no ligand exchange is observed at all. More interestingly combination of (B) and (C′) generated (A′) smoothly. Mononuclear complexes obtained from the ligand 4-phenylpyridine are also used for similar study for comparison. It is suggested that (bpy) could serve as a better cis-protecting group for Pd(II)-based self-assembly coordination cage compounds particularly when dissolution of the assemblies in polar solvents and heating of the resultant solution is required.  相似文献

Xubida infusella (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is potentially a useful biological control agent targeting Eichhornia crassipes (waterhyacinth) in the USA but many regions infested with waterhyacinth are also inhabited by an alternative native host, Pontederia cordata (pickerelweed). Experiments were conducted in Australia to assess the impact of X. infusella on pickerelweed compared to waterhyacinth where both these plants were available and X. infusella had already been released. Overall X. infusella had a greater impact on pickerelweed than on waterhyacinth. More than one larva per plant was required to reduce the total shoot dry weight of waterhyacinth but only one larva per plant reduced the total shoot dry weight of pickerelweed. Insect feeding caused the number of secondary shoots (daughter plants) of pickerelweed to double whereas the number of daughter plants produced by waterhyacinth remained unchanged. We suggest this indicates a considerable impact on pickerelweed rather than effective compensation for insect damage because the shoots produced were very small. Waterhyacinth produced a constant number of daughter plants when fed on by up to three larvae per plant. Higher nitrogen status of both species of host plant increased the rate of larval development and pupal weight of X. infusella. The weight and fecundity of X. infusella reared on pickerelweed were lower than those reared on waterhyacinth but large numbers of progeny were produced on both plant species. This experiment demonstrates a considerable impact of X. infusella on pickerelweed suggesting this plant is at risk from this agent if released in the USA where pickerelweed is present. The considerable impact on waterhyacinth demonstrates the potential for this insect to contribute to waterhyacinth control in countries where risk assessment favours release.  相似文献

In plant-insect herbivore field studies, effects of cages, plant age, and mechanical clipping on host plant chemistry are often postulated but not well documented. We examined the effects of cages (for the purpose of restraining insects on experimental plots), plant age over the course of the experiment and mechanical clipping on plantain (Plantago lanceolata) chemistry. Leaf age affected the concentrations of nitrogen and iridoid glycosides (IGs; specifically aucubin and catalpol), with higher levels in newer leaves. Caged plants had higher levels of IGs and lower concentrations of nitrogen than uncaged plants. The IG concentrations were greater in new leaves of caged plants than uncaged plants, whereas the concentrations in mature leaves were unaffected by caging. Plants that were 5 weeks older had higher levels of IGs and lower nitrogen than plants harvested 5 weeks earlier. Comparison of three studies suggested that over the summer IG concentrations increase during dry years but decrease during wet years. Plants with above-ground parts clipped and then allowed to regrow for five weeks had similar concentrations of IGs and nitrogen compared to control plants; but the regrowth plants had a lower catalpol to total IG ratio. We conclude that cages and time can have significant positive effects on iridoid glycoside concentrations and significant negative effects on leaf nitrogen concentration. But our results also indicate that the direction and magnitude of the effects of cages, time and mechanical damage are not easily predicted. Therefore, it is advisable to determine and/or control for such effects in field experiments on plant-insect interactions.  相似文献

目的 调查舟山市大黄鱼养殖网箱内外异养细菌、弧菌、大肠菌群和粪大肠菌群等的数量分布,并研究水体中异养细菌的区系组成。方法 异养细菌和弧菌的计数采用平板菌落计数法;大肠菌群和粪大肠菌群的计数采用MPN法;异养细菌参照O1iver提供的海洋细菌鉴定检索图、《海洋调查规范》和《一般细菌常用鉴定方法》提供的图式鉴定至属。结果 细菌的数量呈现出明显的季节性波动,并且网箱内细菌的数量要普遍高于网箱外,所分离到的细菌经鉴定可归于莫拉菌属(Moraxella)、不动细菌属(Acinetobacter)、弧菌属(Vibrio)、梭状芽胞杆菌属(Clostridium)和气单胞菌属(Aeromonas)等11个菌属。结论 通过监控网箱养殖水体中异养细菌和弧菌的数量波动,可以提前预警大黄鱼病害的发生.  相似文献

The hour of delivery was surveyed in 152 cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) which were kept in individual cages placed in completely air-conditioned and artificially lit rooms. The deliveries took place during light hours (05:00–19:00) in 15 animals (10%) and during dark hours (19:00–05:00) in 137 (90%). No significant differences in delivery hour were observed between animals of feral origin and colony-bred F1 animals. In addition, there was no difference according to gravidity.  相似文献

There is continuing discussion on the effect of music (“Mozart effect”) on numerous functions in man and experimental animals. Radiotelemetry now allows one to monitor cardiovascular functions in freely‐moving unrestrained experimental animals. Radiotelemetry was used to monitor systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP, DBP), heart rate (HR), and motor activity (MA) in male normotensive WKY and hypertensive SHR animals. Rats were synchronized to a 12 h light (L): 12 h dark (D) regimen in an isolated, ventilated, light‐controlled, sound‐isolated animal container. Music (Mozart, Symphony # 40; Ligeti, String Quartet # 2) were played for 2 h at 75 dB in the animal cabin starting at the onset of L or D in a cross‐over design. Data were collected every 5 min for 24 h under control conditions and during and after music. In addition, plasma concentrations of norepinephrine (NE) were determined in unrestrained animals at 3 h intervals over 24 h. In both WKY and SHR, highly significant circadian rhythms were obtained in SBP, DBP, HR, and MA under control conditions; HR was lower and BP higher in SHR than in WKY. NE was circadian rhythmic in both strains with higher values in D; the increase in NE with immobilization was much more pronounced in SHR than in WKY. The music of Mozart had no effect on either parameter in WKY, neither in L nor in D. In contrast, in SHR, the music of Mozart presented in L significantly decreased HR and left BP unaffected, leading to a small decrease in cardiac output. The music of Ligeti significantly increased BP both in L and in D and reflexively reduced HR in L, the effects being long‐lasting over 24 h. Interestingly, white noise at 75 dB had no effect at all on either function in both strains. The effects of both Mozart and Ligeti cannot be attributed to a stress reaction, as stress due to cage switch increased HR and BP both in WKY and SHR. The study clearly demonstrates that music of different character (tempo, rhythm, pitch, tonality) can modify cardiovascular functions in freely‐moving rats, with SHR being more sensitive than normotensive animals. The relative contribution of the characteristics of the two pieces of music, however, needs further evaluation.  相似文献

Lumbar interbody fusion cages are commonly used to treat painful spinal degeneration and instability by achieving bony fusion. Many different cage designs exist, however the effect of cage morphology and material properties on the fusion process remains largely unknown. This finite element model study aims to investigate the influence of different cage designs on bone fusion using two mechano-regulation algorithms of tissue formation. It could be observed that different cages play a distinct key role in the mechanical conditions within the fusion region and therefore regulate the time course of the fusion process.  相似文献

Random asymmetry, that is the coexistence of left‐ and right‐sided (or ‐handed) individuals within a population, is a particular case of natural variation; what triggers and maintains such dimorphisms remains unknown in most cases. Here, we report a field‐based cage experiment in the scale‐eating Tanganyikan cichlid Perissodus microlepis, which occurs in two morphs in nature: left‐skewed and right‐skewed individuals with respect to mouth orientation. Using underwater cages stocked with scale‐eaters and natural prey fish, we first confirm that, under semi‐natural conditions, left‐skewed scale‐eaters preferentially attack the right flank of their prey, whereas right‐skewed individuals feed predominantly from the left side. We then demonstrate that scale‐eaters have a higher probability for successful attacks when kept in dimorphic experimental populations (left‐ and right‐skewed morphs together) as compared to monomorphic populations (left‐ or right‐skewed morphs), most likely because prey fishes fail to accustom to strikes from both sides. The significantly increased probability for attacks appears to be the selective agent responsible for the evolution and maintenance of mouth dimorphism in P. microlepis, lending further support to the hypothesis that negative frequency‐dependent selection is the stabilizing force balancing the mouth dimorphism at quasi‐equal ratios in scale‐eating cichlids.  相似文献

Drosophila melanogaster populations in nature usually carry inversion polymorphisms. When they were transferred to and maintained in the laboratory as large cage populations, frequencies of polymorphic inversions were drastically decreased and finally eliminated. This “cage effect” was observed irrespective of the geographical origin of the population or the initial frequency of each inversion. The decrease and elimination of inversions in the cage was not overcome by changing conditions such as medium, temperature, or the number of isofemale lines (40-600) introduced. On the other hand, in the sets of isofemale lines derived from the same geographical origins as the cage populations, each of which was maintained as a small vial population, the inversion frequencies, though decreased from the initial frequencies, were kept at significantly high levels. The cage populations initiated with one or two isofemale lines also maintained the inversion polymorphisms that were as high as vial populations.  相似文献
