Fishing disturbance on ecosystems leads to changes in community structure and composition, which may have drastic implications for ecosystem functional performance. Functional redundancy, defined as species sharing similar functional roles, is a community property that plays an important role in preventing functional changes in ecosystems under pressure. In this study, we suggest that functional redundancy may be achieved through trait abundance (i.e. large amounts of a trait, hereafter “common traits”), or through trait richness (i.e. large numbers of distinct taxa exhibiting the same trait, hereafter “widespread traits”). We assessed the variability of both measures obtained from epifaunal and infaunal communities in soft-bottom trawling grounds. Sampling sites were located in four Mediterranean areas that were subjected to different levels of trawling effort. Common and widespread traits measures were based on the analysis of biological traits linked to key soft-bottoms functions such as nutrient cycling, bentho-pelagic coupling and habitat provision. The role of rare species in both measures was also assessed and we observed that, in our study sites, rare species generally exhibited the same traits as the most abundant species. Common and widespread traits measures provided complementary information on benthic functional redundancy. Thus, we suggest that a combination of the two measures should be used to appropriately assess benthic functional redundancy in trawling grounds. As redundancy is a component of ecosystem resilience, functional redundancy evaluation is important to assess the overall integrity of ecosystems.  相似文献

Quantifying non-point source (NPS) phosphorus (P) pollution loads is essential for watershed nutrients management. This study intended to develop a NPS P indicator which (1) was suitable in semi-humid and semi-arid watersheds of Northern China; (2) integrated the key NPS P loss factors and constructed them in a simple and physically understandable way and (3) kept P loss forms distinctively separate. An inverse distance-based delivery ratio was proposed to count for the P delivery efficiency from source to watercourses. We applied this P indicator in Luan River Watershed (LRW) of northern China under typical hydrological years and seasons. Results demonstrated that this NPS P indicator predicted reasonable NPS TP loads using simple methods and readily obtainable inputs. The sub-watersheds located in the south of LRW were recognized as the high risk areas of NPS P loss to Panjiakou reservoir. The upland and paddy fields near the river channels were particularly posing high risk and thus should be treated with prioritized management practices such as soil conservation and recommended fertilization. Rainfall-runoff related variables rather than P source variables explained more of the spatial variation in NPS P load and percentages. Using this tool could give policy makers insight into the component and location of NPS P pollution that needs to be the focus of policy at watershed scales before sophisticated studies were conducted in smaller scales.  相似文献

The efficiency of an intercropping system depends mainly on the cropping system and on the crops, which should complement each other. However, the choice of crops and factors of production are extremely important for maximizing the advantages of intercropping, which, in turn, means maximizing the bio-agro-economic performance of the system. The present study sought to assess, based on appropriate indexes and indicators and using univariate and bivariate analysis, the agronomic/biological and economic returns from a system in which salad rocket was intercropped with carrot at different population densities and one of spontaneous species of the semi-arid region of Brazil, namely hairy woodrose (Merremia aegyptia L.), was used as green manure. The population densities of both the crops were maintained at 40%, 60%, 80%, or 100% of the recommended population for a sole crop (RPSC). The following values were recorded or calculated: green biomass of rocket, biomass of carrot roots, aggressivity indexes, competitive ratio, land equivalent ratio, productive efficiency index, canonical variable score, and four economic indicators, namely gross and net returns, rate of return, and net profit margin. The most effective combination was carrot at 40% of its RPSC intercropped with rocket at 100% of its RPSC with hairy woodrose as green manure because the combination resulted in the highest values of land equivalent ratio (1.72), productive efficiency index (0.91), canonical variable score (1.68), gross returns (R$ 41,186.91 ha−1), net returns (R$ 18,621.64 ha−1), rate of return (1.84), and net profit margin (52.77%), making it a highly profitable combination for the north-eastern semi-arid region of Brazil. The most effective indicators of economic value were yield and the rate of return.  相似文献

Over the years, the Mondego estuary has undergone various anthropogenic impacts. One of the most serious was the closing of the communication between the two arms of the system (north and south), in the 1990s, which promoted eutrophication and a consequent water quality decline in the south arm. Several mitigation measures were subsequently implemented, in particular the re-establishing of the communication between the two arms in 2006, increasing water flow and reducing water residence time in the south arm. The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of management measures on the ecological and conservation condition of the Mondego estuary, through a longitudinal assessment of the structure and composition of the fish communities over a decade. The Mondego fish community showed important modifications over the years, in terms of structure, ecological quality and conservation value. The fish community status improved following the reconnection of both arms. In the south arm those changes appear to be more evident than in the other estuarine areas, where an inverse pattern was observed in the last few years. A redistribution of the fish species within the system may have been responsible for those unexpected alterations in the north arm and upstream area.  相似文献

(E)-3,4-dihydroxystyryl aralkyl sulfones and sulfoxides have been reported as novel multifunctional neuroprotective agents in previous studies, which as phenolic compounds display antioxidative and antineuroinflammatory properties. To further enhance the neuroprotective effects and study structure-activity relationship of the derivatives, we synthesized their acetylated derivatives, (E)-3,4-diacetoxystyryl sulfones and sulfoxides, and examined their neuroprotective effects in vitro models of Parkinson’s disease. The results indicate that (E)-3,4-diacetoxystyryl sulfones and sulfoxides can significantly inhibit kinds of neuron cell injury induced by toxicities, including 6-OHDA, NO, and H2O2. More important, they show higher antineuroinflammatory properties and similar antioxidative properties to corresponding un-acetylated compounds. Thus, we suggest that (E)-3,4-diacetoxystyryl sulfones and sulfoxides may have potential for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders, especially Parkinson’s disease.  相似文献

This paper aims to give an overview of the key issues facing those who are in a position to influence the planning and provision of mental health systems, and who need to address questions of which staff, services and sectors to invest in, and for which patients. The paper considers in turn: a) definitions of community mental health care; b) a conceptual framework to use when evaluating the need for hospital and community mental health care; c) the potential for wider platforms, outside the health service, for mental health improvement, including schools and the workplace; d) data on how far community mental health services have been developed across different regions of the world; e) the need to develop in more detail models of community mental health services for low‐ and middle‐income countries which are directly based upon evidence for those countries; f) how to incorporate mental health practice within integrated models to identify and treat people with comorbid long‐term conditions; g) possible adverse effects of deinstitutionalization. We then present a series of ten recommendations for the future strengthening of health systems to support and treat people with mental illness.  相似文献

The dynamics of savanna ecosystems depends on the interplay between multiple factors such as grazing, browsing, fires, rainfall regime and interactions between grass and woody vegetation. In most modelling applications this interplay may not be fully understood because some of these drivers enter the models as dynamically independent factors. In this paper we consider such factors as dynamic variables. To analyze their interplay we focus on the structure of the interactive network of variables and exploit the properties of signed digraphs using the algorithm of Loop Analysis. Qualitative signed digraphs for the savanna ecosystem are developed and their predictions used to interpret patterns of abundance observed in case studies selected from the literature. The outcomes of this exercise unveil that: 1) the structure of the interactions is appropriate locus for the explanation of patterns observed in savannas; 2) signed digraph can help disentangling causative mechanisms by linking correlation patterns, source of change and network structure. This study highlights that central to the understanding of savanna dynamics is our ability to diagram the important relationships and understand how they interrelate with sources of variations to cause ecosystem change.  相似文献

Trolox, a water‐soluble vitamin E analogue has been used as a positive control in Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity and oxygen radical antioxidant capacity assays due to its high antioxidative effect. In this study, the ex vivo antioxidative effects of Trolox and its concentration in blood and brain microdialysates from rat after administration were evaluated by newly established semi‐microflow injection analysis, chemiluminescence detection and HPLC‐UV. In the administration test, the antioxidative effect of Trolox in blood and brain microdialysates after a single administration of 200 mg/kg of Trolox to rats could be monitored. The antioxidative effects in blood (12.0 ± 2.1) and brain (8.4 ± 2.1, × 103 antioxidative effect % × min) also increased. Additionally, the areas under the curve (AUC)s0–360 (n = 3) for blood and brain calculated with quantitative data were 10.5 ± 1.2 and 9.7 ± 2.5 mg/mL × min, respectively. This result indicates that Trolox transferability through the blood–brain barrier is high. The increase in the antioxidative effects caused by Trolox in the blood and brain could be confirmed because good correlations between concentration and antioxidative effects (r ≥ 0.702) were obtained. KNaSO4 microphosphor doped with Ce,Gd and Ce,Tb and prepared by a wet chemical method was studied using X‐ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and photoluminescence (PL) characterization. KNaSO4 has a 5‐µm particle size detected by SEM. KNaSO4:Ce3+,Tb3+ showed blue and green emission (at 494 nm, 557 nm, 590 nm) of Tb3+ due to 5D47FJ (J = 4, 5, 6) transitions. KNaSO4:Ce3+,Gd3+ showed luminescence in the ultraviolet (UV) light region at 314 nm for an excitation at 271 nm wavelength. It was observed that efficient energy transfer took place from Ce3+ → Gd3+ and Ce3+ → Tb3+ sublattices indicating that Ce3+ could effectively sensitize Gd3+ or Tb3+ (green emission). Ce3+ emission weakened and Gd3+ or Tb3+ enhanced the emission significantly in KNaSO4. 目的:探讨HPV阴性与HPV阳性宫颈癌的临床特点及其和预后的关系。方法:选取住院手术的HPV呈阴性与阳性的宫颈癌患者各86例,且两组患者在年龄、FIGO临床分期相近。分析两组患者的年龄、肿瘤临床分期、病理分型、原发肿瘤大小、分化程度、基层浸润深度、淋巴结转移、治疗方案情况及其5年RFS和总生存时间。结果:两组间宫颈癌患者肿瘤分化程度、肌层浸润深度、淋巴结转移间差异有统计学意义(P0.05)。HPV阳性组和HPV阴性组随访时间分别为63(13~87)个月、61(9~90)个月,5年总生存率分别为70.4%和61.3%,平均总生存时间分别为(73.15±2.74)月和(62.72±3.03)月,差异有统计学意义(p0.05)。HPV阴性组和HPV阳性组5年RFS分别为52.3%和66.4%,平均RFS为(51.57±4.62)月和(58.83±3.46)月,差异有统计学意义(p0.05)。结论:HPV阴性宫颈癌瘤体倾向于低分化,易发生局部侵犯和淋巴结转移,其临床预后较差。  相似文献
