An estimator of relative risk in a case control study has been proposed in terms of observed cell frequencies and the probability of disease. The bias of the usual estimator i.e odds ratio as compared to the new estimator has been workedout. The expression of Mean Square Error of proposed estimator has been derived in situations where probability of disease is exactly known and when it is estimated through an independent survey. It has been observed that there is a serious error using odds ratio as an estimate of relative risk when probability of disease is not negligible. When using the chi square test to compare the proportions of successes in two independent binomial samples, a new continuity correction is proposed, which equals half the size of the smaller sample. Exact computations of unconditional tail-probabilities, together with a theoretical argument, show that this correction is more appropriate than the YATES correction. Temperature-compensated psychrometers are explained and a theoretical correction for temperature gradients, with its boundaries, is given. The correction was elaborated for in situ determination of water potential on soybean and tomato stems where it was indispensable. The origin of the thermal gradients in the psychrometric chamber is then discussed. Cooling of the conducting tissue by the circulation of xylem sap seemed to be the major cause for these gradients, while the heating of the psychrometer (thermally insulated) by the surroundings through radiative or conductive transfer was negligible. 相似文献

Motion correction is an important issue in ophthalmic optical coherence tomography (OCT), and can improve the ability of data sets to reflect the physiological structures of tissues and make visualization and subsequent analysis easier. In this study, we present a novel method to correct the cross-sectional motion artifacts in retinal OCT volumes. Motion along the x-direction (fast-scan direction) is corrected through the normalized cross-correlation algorithm, while axial motion compensation is performed using the polynomial fitting method on the inner segment/outer segment (IS/OS) layer segmented by the shortest path faster algorithm (SPFA). The results of volunteers with central serous chorioretinopathy demonstrate that the proposed method effectively corrects motion artifacts in OCT volumes and may have potential application value in the evaluation of ophthalmic diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. 相似文献
