The effect of several organic acids on the oxidation of Mn(II) catalyzed by manganese peroxidase was studied. Reactivities of manganese peroxidase and chemically prepared Mn(III) organic acid complexes towards phenolic compounds were compared. If lactate appears to be the best complexant for manganese peroxidase activity, chemically prepared Mn(III)—lactate complex is a less effective oxidant towards phenolic compounds than other Mn(III)—complexes. Our results agree with the hypothesis that certain organic acids are involved in the catalytic cycle of manganese peroxidase. Malonate and lactate seem to be the most attractive complexants for practical applications of manganese peroxidase and were used in enzymatic treatment of hardwood kraft pulp. Bleaching of kraft pulp was studied and after alkaline extraction, a significant decrease of kappa number was measured. The bleaching was enhanced in lactate buffer. 相似文献
Multistimuli-responsive fluorescent materials have garnered great research interest benefited from their practical applications. Two twisted-structure compounds containing tetraphenylethylene (TPE) as the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) group and a pyridine unit as the acid reaction site to obtain new multistimuli-responsive fluorescent compounds (namely, TPECNPy: TPECNPy-2 and TPECNPy-3) were successfully synthesized through a one-step Knoevenagel condensation reaction. The multiple-stimuli response process of TPECNPy was investigated by means of photoluminescence (PL) spectra and emission colour. The results showed that both TPECNPy compounds with excellent AIE abilities displayed reversible emission wavelength and colour changes in response to multiple external stimuli, including grinding–fuming by CH2Cl2 or annealing and HCl-NH3 vapour fuming. More importantly, fluorescent nanofibre films were prepared by electrospinning a solution of TPECNPy mixed with cellulose acetate (CA), and these exhibited reversible acid-induced discolouration, even with only 1 wt% TPECNPy. The results of this study may inspire strategies for designing multistimuli-responsive materials and preparing fluorescent sensing nanofibre films. 相似文献
Arsenic (As) contaminated food chains have emerged as a serious public concern for humans and animals and are known to affect the cultivation of edible crops throughout the world. Therefore, the present study was designed to investigate the individual as well as the combined effects of exogenous silicon (Si) and sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a nitric oxide (NO) donor, on plant growth, metabolites, and antioxidant defense systems of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) plants under three different concentrations of As stress, i.e., 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7 mM in a pot experiment. The results showed that As stress reduced the growth parameters of radish plants by increasing the level of oxidative stress markers, i.e., malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide. However, foliar application of Si (2 mM) and pretreatment with SNP (100 µM) alone as well as in combination with Si improved the plant growth parameters, i.e., root length, fresh and dry weight of plants under As stress. Furthermore, As stress also reduced protein, and metabolites contents (flavonoids, phenolic and anthocyanin). Activities of antioxidative enzymes such as catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), guaiacol peroxidase (POD), and polyphenol oxidase (PPO), as well as the content of non-enzymatic antioxidants (glutathione and ascorbic acid) decreased under As stress. In most of the parameters in radish, As III concentration showed maximum reduction, as compared to As I and II concentrations. However, the individual and combined application of Si and NO significantly alleviated the As-mediated oxidative stress in radish plants by increasing the protein, and metabolites content. Enhancement in the activities of CAT, APX, POD and PPO enzymes were recorded. Contents of glutathione and ascorbic acid were also enhanced in response to co-application of Si and NO under As stress. Results obtained were more pronounced when Si and NO were applied in combination under As stress, as compared to their individual application. In short, the current study highlights that Si and NO synergistically regulate plant growth through lowering the As-mediated oxidative stress by upregulating the metabolites content, activity of antioxidative enzymes and non-enzymatic antioxidants in radish plants.
Leishmaniasis is a tropical zoonotic disease. It is found in 98 countries, with an estimated 1.3 million people being affected annually. During the life cycle, the Leishmania parasite alternates between promastigote and amastigote forms. The first line treatment for leishmaniasis are the pentavalent antimonials, such as N-methylglucamine antimoniate (Glucantime®) and sodium stibogluconate (Pentostam®). These drugs are commonly related to be associated with dangerous side effects such as cardiotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, and pancreatitis. Considering these aspects, this work aimed to obtain a new series of limonene-acylthiosemicarbazides hybrids as an alternative for the treatment of leishmaniasis. For this, promastigotes, axenic amastigotes, and intracellular amastigotes of Leishmania amazonensis were used in the antiproliferative assay; J774-A1 macrophages for the cytotoxicity assay; and electron microscopy techniques were performed to analyze the morphology and ultrastructure of parasites. ATZ−S-04 compound showed the best result in both tests. Its IC50, in promastigotes, axenic amastigotes and intracellular amastigotes was 0.35±0.08 μM, 0.49±0.06 μM, and 15.90±2.88 μM, respectively. Cytotoxicity assay determined a CC50 of 16.10±1.76 μM for the same compound. By electron microscopy, it was observed that ATZ−S-04 affected mainly the Golgi complex, in addition to morphological changes in promastigote forms of L. amazonensis. 相似文献
Application of abscisic acid (ABA) brings about stomatal closure within 30 min in epidermal peels of Vicia faba . A number of phenolic compounds antagonise the effect of ABA. Derivatives of benzoic acid, cinnamic acid, coumarin and flavonoids have been studied in order to establish structure – activity relationship. Derivatives of benzoic acid reverse the ABA effects. Coumarin, esculetin and three hydro derivatives of cinnamic acid fail to show the anti-ABA activity. Thus, the presence of parahydroxyl group and double bond in the side chain is necessary for anti-ABA activity. 相似文献
