Summary The relative toxicity of nitrapyrin 2-chloro-6-(trichloromethyl) pyridine and ATC (4-amino-1, 2, 4-triazole) on the growth of chick peas (Cicer arietinum L.) cow peas (Vigna sinensis L.), green beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), green peas (Pisum sativum L.) and mung beans (Phaseolus aureus Roxb.) and their effectiveness as nitrification inhibitor were studied under greenhouse conditions. ATC produced no toxicity symptoms in green peas, whereas resulted in leaf chlorosis in cow peas, chick peas and green beans. However, nitrapyrin toxicity appeared as leaf chlorosis in cow peas, and interveinal chlorosis in chick peas. Moreover, nitrapyrin-treated green beans and peas developed leaf curling and cupping. Although ATC had no significant effect on growth, a suppression in plant growth was associated with nitrapyrin application. Furthermore, green beans was the most resistant and chick peas the most sensitive to nitrapyrin. Nitrapyrin was more effective nitrification inhibitor than ACT, especially at the lower rates.  相似文献

The membrane potential generated at pH 8.5 by K+-depleted and Na+-loaded Vibrioalginolyticus is not collapsed by proton conductors which, instead, induce the accumulation of protons in equilibrium with the membrane potential. The generation of such a membrane potential and the accumulation of protons are specific to Na+-loaded cells at alkaline pH and are dependent on respiration. Extrusion of Na+ at pH 8.5 occurs in the presence of proton conductors unless respiration is inhibited while it is abolished by proton conductors at acidic pH. The uptake of α-aminoisobutyric acid, which is driven by the Na+-electrochemical gradient, is observed even in the presence of proton conductors at pH 8.5 but not at acidic pH. We conclude that a respiration-dependent primary electrogenic Na+ extrusion system is functioning at alkaline pH to generate the proton conductor-insensitive membrane potential and Na+ chemical gradient.  相似文献

The sub-family Poulpinae is introduced, caracterised by three cephalic arcs and the collar position of the cephalic structure. The extent of the deficiency in γ-ray induced DNA repair synthesis in an ataxia telangiectasia (AT) human fibroblast strain was found to show no oxygen enhancement, consistent with a defect in the repair of base damage. Repair deficiency, but not repair proficiency, in AT cells were accompanied by a lack of inhibition of DNA synthesis (replicon initiation) neither γ-rays or the radiomimetic drug bleomycin. Experiments with 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide indicated that lack of inhibition was specific for radiogenic type damage. Thus excision repair, perhaps by DNA strand incision or chromatin modification, appears to halt replicon initiation in irradiated repair proficient cells whereas in repair defective AT strains this putatively important biological function is inoperative.  相似文献

Spinach chloroplasts have been prepared nonaqueously using non-polar solvents (n-hexane, CCl4, n-heptane) and the β-carotene content extracted in a controlled manner. This procedure is reproducible and does not result in large structural or spectral changes of the chloroplasts. The organisation of the chlorophyll-proteins is unaltered, as fragmentation with digitonin results in the appearance of the same fractions as found previously for aqueously-prepared chloroplasts, including the pink zone containing cytochromes f and b6 in the ratio 1:2. The chloroplasts possess both Photosystem I activity (P-700 photo-bleaching, and NADP+ photoreduction) and Photosystem II activity (parabenzoquinone reduction with Mn2+ as electron donor, and chlorophyll fluorescence induction). Use of moderate intensity red illumination has allowed a study of the role of β-carotene in photochemistry separate from its roles in energy transfer and photoprotection.Removal of the fraction of β-carotene closely associated with the Photo-system I reaction centre caused the rate of NADP+ photoreduction to fall to a low, but significantly non-zero level. Thus, in the complete absence of β-carotene, photochemistry can still be observed, however the specific association of β-carotene with the reaction centre is required for maximal rates. We propose that β-carotene bound at the reaction centre decreases the rate of transfer of excitation energy away from the reaction centre, and increases the rate of photochemistry. It is possible that this occurs via formation of an exciplex between ground state β-carotene and chlorophyll in the first excited state.  相似文献

A clonal cell line of mouse neuroblastoma cells was found to undergo morphological differentiation in the presence of a K+ ionophore, valinomycin, in the assay medium. This effect was blocked by increasing the concentration of KCl of the medium, suggesting that the changes in resting membrane potential and ion fluxes may be involved in the mechanism of the formation of neurites. No enhancement of the neurite formation was observed in salines containing high concentrations of KCl in the absence of valinomycin. Depolarizing agents including veratridine, gramicidin and ouabain did not stimulate the outgrowth of neurites. Neither electrophoretic mobility of the cells nor molecular anisotropy of fluorescence probes in the membranes was modified by the treatment of valinomycin. Instead, it modified the slow binding phase in kinetics of the interaction of 1-anilinonaphthalene-8-sulfonate (ANS) with the cells, which is related to the penetration process of the probe into membranes. Valinomycin also enhanced the fluorescence intensity of ANS by increasing the binding sites in neuroblastoma cells.  相似文献
