Melampolides from Enhydra fluctuans var. Fluctuans

The investigation of the aerial parts of a variety of Enhydra fluctuans afforded in addition to 4-hydroxyfarnesyl acetate and fluctuadin five new melampolides elucidated by high field ¹H NMR spectroscopy. The chemotaxonomic situation is discussed briefly.

Neue diterpene und germacranolide aus Mikania-Arten

From three Mikania species, three new labdanic acid and two kaurenic acid derivatives have been isolated together with known compounds and four new germacranolides, differing only in the ester moiety.     

Eudesmanolides and diterpenes from Wedelia trilobata and an ent-kaurenic acid derivative from Aspilia parvifolia

The reinvestigation of the aerial parts of Wedelia trilobata afforded, in addition to known compounds, six new eudesmanolides, two ent-kaurenic acid derivatives as well as a degraded one. A corresponding hydroxy compound was present in Gnaphalium undulatum. From Aspilia parvifolia new ent-kaurenic acid epoxides were isolated. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. The chemotaxonomic situation is discussed briefly.     

Neue,abgewandelte pseudoguajanolide aus Psilostrophe villosa

Investigation of the North American species Psilostrophe villosa afforded, in addition to known compounds, five new sesquiterpene lactones, which all turn out to be modified pseudoguaianolides, most of them closely related to hymenolide. However, one of the lactones is a new type of nor-pseudoguaianolide. Furthermore a new monoacetylated borneol-β-D-glucoside is present. The chemotaxonomic situation is discussed briefly.

Out of the nineteen species of Vernonia studied, five contained highly oxygenated sesquiterpene lactones, while the rest contained predominantly triterpenes, especially lupane derivatives.     

An isomer of xanthanol from Xanthium orientale

The aerial parts of Xanthium orientale afforded an isomer of xanthanol.     

Eudesmanolide sesquiterpenes and protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B inhibitory ent-kaurene diterpenes from aerial parts of Indonesian Wedelia prostata

Seven eudesmanolide sesquiterpenes (1–7) and two ent-kaurene diterpenes (8 and 9) including two new (9R)-eudesman-9,12-olides, named wedelolides I and J (1 and 2), were isolated from the aerial parts of Indonesian Wedelia prostata. The structures of 1 and 2 were assigned based on their spectroscopic data. Diterpenes 8 and 9 inhibited the activity of protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) with IC₅₀ values of 8.3 and 28 μM, respectively. Among sesquiterpenes 1–7, compound 4, wedelolide D, exhibited 32% inhibitory activity against PTP1B at 20 μM.
