Moist Exposed Burn Ointment (MEBO®) is widely used topical agent applied on skin burn. This study investigated the effect of MEBO topical application on activation and proliferation of epidermal stem cells through the immunohistochemical localization of cytokeratin 19 (CK19) as a known marker expressed in epidermal stem cells. Biopsies from normal skin and burn wounds were taken from 21 patients with partial thickness burn 1, 4, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after treatment with MEBO. Tissue sections were prepared for histological study and for CK19 immunohistochemical localization. In control skin, only few cells showed a positive CK19 immune-reaction. Burned skin showed necrosis of full thickness epidermis that extended to dermis. Gradual regeneration of skin accompanied with an enhancement in CK19 immune-reactivity was noted 4, 7, 14 and 21 days after treatment with MEBO. On day 28, a complete regeneration of skin was observed with a return of CK19 immune-reactivity to the basal pattern again. In conclusion, the enhancement of epidermal stem cell marker CK19 after treatment of partial thickness burn injuries with MEBO suggested the role of MEBO in promoting epidermal stem cell activation and proliferation during burn wound healing. 相似文献

目的:观察替米沙坦联合叶酸治疗对老年H型高血压合并2型糖尿病患者凝血功能及肾功的影响.为老年H型高血压合并2型糖尿病患者的临床治疗以及延缓病程提供理论依据.方法:选择66例符合标准的老年H型高血压合并2型糖尿病患者,测定血压,胰岛素敏感指数,糖化血红蛋白,同型半胱氨酸,凝血指标及尿白蛋白排泄率(UAE)等基线数据.上述患者随机分为对照组及实验组,分别接受替米沙坦80 mg/d及替米沙坦80 mg/d+叶酸片0.8 mg/d治疗后,于24周后复查上述指标,并与用药前进行对比研究.结果:对照组及实验组患者均较治疗前血压下降,糖化血红蛋白、纤维蛋白原、尿白蛋白排泄率明显下降(P<0.05),胰岛素敏感指数较治疗前升高(P<0.05).经治疗后,实验组患者较对照组血压、糖化血红蛋白、同型半胱氨酸、纤维蛋白原、尿白蛋白排泄率下降均低于对照组(P<0.05),胰岛素敏感指数较对照组升高(P<0.05).结论:对于老年H型高血压合并2型糖尿病患者替米沙坦联合叶酸治疗较单纯替米沙坦治疗具有更良好的降压作用,增加胰岛素敏感性,改善高凝状态,改善肾功. 相似文献

Ultrasonic acoustic emissions in drought-stressed trees--more than signals from cavitation? 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Ultrasonic acoustic emission (UAE) in trees is often related to collapsing water columns in the flow path as a result of tensions that are too strong (cavitation). However, in a decibel (dB) range below that associated with cavitation, a close relationship was found between UAE intensities and stem radius changes. UAE was continuously recorded on the stems of mature field-grown trees of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and pubescent oak (Quercus pubescens) at a dry inner-Alpine site in Switzerland over two seasons. The averaged 20-Hz records were related to microclimatic conditions in air and soil, sap-flow rates and stem-radius fluctuations detrended for growth (Delta W). Within a low-dB range (27 +/- 1 dB), UAE regularly increased and decreased in a diurnal rhythm in parallel with DeltaW on cloudy days and at night. These low-dB emissions were interrupted by UAE abruptly switching between the low-dB range and a high-dB range (36 +/- 1 dB) on clear, sunny days, corresponding to the widely supported interpretation of UAE as sound from cavitations. It is hypothesized that the low-dB signals in drought-stressed trees are caused by respiration and/or cambial growth as these physiological activities are tissue water-content dependent and have been shown to produce courses of CO(2) efflux similar to our courses of Delta W and low-dB UAE. 相似文献

Mulberry 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ, a potent α-glycosidase inhibitor) has therapeutic potency against diabetes mellitus. However, the amount of DNJ in mulberry leaves is low (about 0.1%), and a more effective extraction method is needed. Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) was applied in this study for mulberry DNJ extraction, and five factors, the percentage of ethanol in the extraction solvent (x 1), ratio of the extraction solvent to mulberry sample (x 2), ultrasonic power (x 3), extraction temperature (x 4) and extraction time (x 5), were investigated by fractional factorial 2(5-1) design (FFD) to obtain the optimum extraction efficiency (DNJ yield, Y 1) and extraction productivity (total yield, Y 2). The results showed that x 2, x 3 and x 5 had significant impact on Y 1 and Y 2, and were further optimized by response surface methodology (RSM). Under the optimized conditions (x 2, x 3 and x 5 of 7 ml/g, 180 W and 260 s, respectively), DNJ-enriched powder (0.8%) was produced with high extraction efficiency (98%) and productivity (20%), enabling this product to be used for nutraceutical purposes. 相似文献

Aronia melanocarpa berries are abundant in polyphenolic compounds. After juice production, the pomace of pressed berries still contains a substantial amount of polyphenolic compounds. For efficient utilization of A. melanocarpa berries and the enhancement of polyphenolic compound yields in Aronia melanocarpa pomace (AMP), total phenolics (TP) and total flavonoids (TF) from AMP were extracted, using ultrasound-assisted aqueous two-phase system (UAE-ATPS) extraction method. First, the influences of ammonium sulfate concentration, ethanol–water ratio, ultrasonic time, and ultrasonic power on TP and TF yields were investigated. On this basis, process variables such as ammonium sulfate concentration (0.30–0.35?g?mL?1), ethanol–water ratio (0.6–0.8), ultrasonic time (40–60?min), and ultrasonic power (175–225?W) were further optimized by implementing Box–Benhnken design with response surface methodology. The experimental results showed that optimal extraction conditions of TP from AMP were as follows: ammonium sulfate concentration of 0.324?g?mL?1, ethanol–water ratio of 0.69, ultrasonic time of 52?min, and ultrasonic power of 200?W. Meanwhile, ammonium sulfate concentration of 0.320?g?mL?1, ethanol–water ratio of 0.71, ultrasonic time of 50?min, and ultrasonic power of 200?W were determined as optimum extraction conditions of TF in AMP. Experimental validation was performed, where TP and TF yields reached 68.15?±?1.04 and 11.67?±?0.63?mg?g?1, respectively. Close agreement was found between experimental and predicted values. Overall, the present results demonstrated that ultrasound-assisted aqueous two-phase system extraction method was successfully used to extract total phenolics and flavonoids in A. melanocarpa pomace. 相似文献

Background
The chemokine receptor components play crucial roles in the immune system and some of them serve as co-receptors for the HIV virus. Several studies have documented that variants in chemokine receptors are correlated with susceptibility and resistance to infection with HIV virus. For example, mutations in the chemokine receptor 5 gene (CCR5) resulting in loss-of-function (such as the homozygous CCR5?32) confer high degree of resistance to HIV infection. Heterozygotes for these variants exhibit slow progression to AIDS. The prevalence of CCR5 polymorphisms varies among ethnic and geographical groups. For example, the CCR5?32 variant is present in 10–15% of north Europeans but is rarely encountered among Africans. This study aims to identify the prevalence of some CCR5 variants in two geographically distant Arab populations (namely Emiratis and Tunisians).Methodology
The prevalence of CCR5 gene variants including CCR5?32, FS299, C101X, A29S and C178R has been determined using PCR and direct DNA sequencing. A total of 403 unrelated healthy individuals (253 Emiratis and 150 Tunisians) were genotyped for the CCR5?32 variant using PCR amplification and gel electrophoresis. In addition, 200 Emiratis have been screened for other SNPs using Sanger DNA sequencing.Results
Among Emiratis, the allele frequency of the CCR5?32 variant has been found to be 0.002. In addition, two variants L55Q and A159 were found at a frequency of 0.002. Moreover, the prevalence of the CCR5?32 variant in Tunisians was estimated to be 0.013 which is relatively higher than its frequency in Emiratis but lower than Europeans.Conclusion
We conclude that the allele frequency of the most critical CCR5 polymorphism (?32) is extremely low among Emiratis compared to other Arabs and North Europeans. In addition, very low allele frequencies of other CCR5 polymorphisms have been detected among Emiratis. 相似文献9.

Background and aimDespite the fact that it has been over a year with the pandemic COVID-19 infection, ongoing research and analysis reveal many complications and comorbidities associated with COVID-19. In this study, we aimed at investigating the clinical and laboratory assessments in COVID-19 patients with and without liver injury.MethodsSymptomatic 541 COVID-19 positive patients, who were admitted to Al Kuwait Hospital, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), were recruited in this study. Their data was collected retrospectively, including demographic data, blood tests, symptoms, radiographical assessments, and clinical outcomes of COVID-19.ResultsAround 19% of the recruited COVID-19 patients displayed signs of acute liver injury. Also, there was an increase in the percentage of critical, ICU-admitted and mortality rates in COVID-19 cases with liver injury, as well as a higher percentage of septic shock and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). COVID-19 patients with liver injury had more pronounced bilateral consolidation, lymphopenia and neutrophilia. Additionally, these patients had higher levels of CRP, LDH, procalcitonin, ferritin and D dimer levels. Finally, there was a higher percentage of patients taking various COVID-19 therapies in the COVID-19 patients with liver injury group.ConclusionCOVID-19 patients with acute liver injury are at a higher risk for serious outcomes including death. 相似文献

A program to monitor nutrients and heavy metal ions concentrations in addition to selected bacterial communities counts was carried out at three sites along the eastern coast of the United Arab Emirates on the Gulf of Oman. Total saprophytic bacteria (TSB), salt tolerant saprophytic bacteria (STSB), Gram-negative bacteria (GNB), total coliform (TC), and faecal coliform bacteria (FC) were enumerated. The concentrations of heavy metal ions including Mn, Fe, Pb, Cd, Zn, Cr, Ni, Co and Cu were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. Bacterial counts had a distinct pattern with peaks in mid spring (May) and in autumn (October). The TSB, STSB and the GNB ranges fluctuated between, 3.3 × 104 to 4 × 105, 1.8 × 104 to 2.5 × 105 and 0.7 × 104 to 1.3 × 105 colony forming units (CFU) ml–1, respectively. Total and faecal coliform bacteria fluctuated depending on several factors including the presence of nearby recreation and commercial areas, but were at no time consistently high.Bacillus, Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus, Micrococcus and Alteromonas, were the predominant bacterial genera in these waters. Major nutrients and trace heavy metal ions concentrations were within the normal ranges for sea water with occasional sharp fluctuations in some sites.
