AbstractDiadema setosum (Leske, 1778) develops from small isolecithal eggs with a diameter of 84 ± 3 μm. Embryonic development took about 6.5–7 h and finished when a blastula left the fertilization envelope and became a larva. At this stage, the first pigment cells had appeared. At 23 h a prism developed; at 44 h a pluteus with one pair of arms had appeared; at 45 h of development plutei had two pairs of arms. The pigment cells colour the pluteus of D. setosum dark red. When 20-day-old larvae were mechanically stimulated, they flared their arms which may be defensive behaviour. During further development, the post oral arms of plutei grew to 1900 μm or more. Metamorphosis took place at about 40–45 days. At this time, five primary ambulacral podia were visible within the larval body. The duration of metamorphosis from the moment of larval settlement until the juvenile sea urchins began to move along the bottom was 40–60 min. The diameter of the test of the newly metamorphosed juvenile sea urchins was about 500 μm. 相似文献

In many eutherian species, pairing and recombination of X and Y chromosomes are indispensable for normal meiotic progression and correct segregation of sex chromosomes. The rodent subfamily Arvicolinae provides an interesting exception. The majority of arvicoline species with asynaptic sex chromosomes belong to the genus Microtus sensu lato. However, some vole species of the genus Microtus and other genera display normal X-Y pairing in meiosis. These observations indicate that synaptic condition was typical for the common ancestor of all voles, but the gaps in taxonomic sampling makes impossible to identify a lineage or lineages, in which the asynapsis occurred. The methods of electron and fluorescent microscopy were used to study the synapsis of sex chromosomes in males of some additional species of the subfamily Arvicolinae. This extended taxonomic list allowed us to identify asynaptic species in every large lineage of the tribe Microtini. Apparently, the ability of sex chromosomes to pair and recombine in male meiosis was lost in arvicoline evolution for at least three times independently. Our results indirectly suggest the unnecessity of sex chromosome pairing in male meiosis of arvicoline rodents, and presence of alternate molecular mechanism of sex chromosome segregation in this large mammalian tribe. 相似文献

Evidence on occurrence in catches and characteristic of the spatial-bathymetric distribution and size indices of four species of Cottidae—frog sculpin Myoxocephalus stelleri, brightbelly sculpin Microcottus sellaris, antlered sculpin Enophrys diceraus, and furseal sculpin Stelgistrum stejnegeri—in summer-autumn months in the Okhotsk Sea waters off Kamchatka (site from 51°15′ to 57°20′ N, depths of 11–100 m) are provided. The first three species occur mainly in the northern part of the shelf above 54° N at depths smaller than 30–40 m within a comparatively well warmed surface water mass of seasonal modification at near-bottom temperature values above 6°C at various solid grounds. Maximum catches of S. stejnegeri were recorded only at a site of the western Kamchatka shelf from 54°00′ to 54°20′ N on pebbly-stony ground in a narrow bathy-metric range of 41–60 m on the boundary between the well warmed surface water mass of autumn modification and the cold intermediate water mass at a water temperature below 2°C. Evidence on the size-weight indices of the studied species of Cottidae in trawl catches in the Okhotsk Sea waters off Kamchatka in the study period is provided. 相似文献

Resveratrol is a plant-derived phenol but the mechanism that regulates its biosynthesis remains unidentified. Stilbene synthase (STS) catalyzes resveratrol formation in vivo and we have proposed that inducers of resveratrol production affect STS expression through an unidentified epigenetic mechanism. To investigate the role of DNA methylation in resveratrol biosynthesis, we treated both rolB transgenic and empty vector control Vitis amurensis cell cultures with the DNA demethylation agent, 5-azacytidine. Treated cells had increased resveratrol production through activation of VaSTS10 expression. The lowest levels of cytosine methylation were at the 5′- and 3′-ends of the VaSTS1 protein-coding sequence. Cytosine methylation decreased mostly at the 5′- and 3′-ends of VaSTS10 after azaC treatment with an intriguing regularity in the number of cytosine nucleotides within the 5′- and 3′- ends of the protein-coding sequences. Thus, cytosine methylation is crucial for the regulation of the resveratrol biosynthetic pathway. 相似文献

In young systemically infected leaves of Datura stramonium L., a severe strain of Potato virus X (PVX) accumulated to a lower degree than a mild strain. Infected leaves had increased protease and RNase activities in comparison with those of healthy controls. The highest hydrolase activities were found in leaves infected with the severe strain. Negative‐staining electron microscopy of dips from the infected leaves indicated that PVX virions underwent destructive changes, which resulted in the appearance of abnormal (swollen and ‘thin’) particles. Immuno‐electron microscopic assays showed that thin PVX particles, in contrast to those of normal diameter, lost the ability to bind with specific antiserum. The relative number of thin virions in leaves infected with the severe PVX strain was considerably higher than in leaves infected with the mild strain. This shows that a correlation exists between increased protease activity and intracellular destruction of virions. In abnormal virions, the viral RNA appears to be available for RNase attack. Therefore, it seems that high RNase activity together with increased generation of abnormal virions in the leaves infected with the severe strain promote inactivation of the viral RNA with RNase. We suppose that the enhanced hydrolase activities in the leaves infected with severe PVX strain, on the one hand, limit viral accumulation and thus play a defensive role and, on the other hand, cause considerable intracellular pathological changes resulting in severe symptoms. 相似文献

This paper discusses the results of studying the technogenic contamination of ecosystems with the waste of placer gold production in the Priamurye and Primorye territories. Environmental objects were shown to degrade and there was a sharp deterioration in human habitats, posing a threat to human life in mining settlements. The basic causes of death in hoofed mammals in the Urruri reserve and in the adjacent territory during the period from 1974 to 2011 are hunting and poaching, tiger predation, and exhaustion. The sika deer has accounted for the largest number of the established deaths since the 1990s, because this species has become dominant in the fauna of hoofed animals in the reserve as a result of acclimatization. Before the 1980s, the main prey for tigers were the red deer (52%) and wild boar (44%): the share of the sika deer in the prey was 4%. During the most recent 10 years, the share of the sika deer, wild boar, and red deer in the tiger-prey trophic link at separate stations of the reserve has been 68%, 20.6%, and 6.9%, respectively. 相似文献
