By addition of 1-(14)C-sodium acedate to the growth medium of Nocardia asteroides, it can be shown that the lipid content increases during the exponential phase, but does not vary during the stationary phase of the growth. Nocardic acid biosynthesis from the medium molecular weight fatty acids occurs chiefly during te stationary phase. As these compounds are localised in the cell walls, it becomes evident that the lipid envelope of the walls is still increasing when the cell growth and division have stopped.  相似文献

Cell membrane transport of K+ stimulates the rate of glycolysis in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells. A study of the characteristics of this relationship indicates that the stimulation occurs under anaerobic as well as under aerobic conditions. The data suggest that glycolysis is stimulated by a K+ transport mechanism that is coupled to Na+ transport because the effect is blunted or abolished when the principal intracellular ion is lithium or choline. This stimulus to glycolysis is blocked by ouabain and ethacrynic acid, agents that have been shown to inhibit monovalent cation transport in erythrocytes. In contrast to the action of ouabain, glycolysis is inhibited by ethacrynic acid in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells in the absence of cell membrane K+ transport. In studies with ghost-free hemolysates of human erythrocytes and with cytosol prepared from Ehrlich ascites tumor cells, ethacrynic acid significantly blocks lactate formation from fructose diphosphate demonstrating the direct inhibitory effect of this agent on one or more enzymes of the Embden-Meyerhof pathway. Since ethacrynic acid has no influence on lactate formation in intact erythrocytes utilizing an endogenous substrate, the presumptive site of inhibition is proximal to the 3-phosphoglycerate level.  相似文献

This paper refers to a case of polymorphism in the desmid genus Xanthidium Ehr. It is based on material from Lake Dais Irmaios, the main body of water in the Zoological and Botanical Garden in Recife, Pernambuco, northeastern Brazil, collected at 4 different times of the year during 1967 and 1968. A detailed examination of almost 1300 specimens showed an enormous variety in form of Xanthidium regulare Nordst., X. fragile Borge, and X. pseudoregulare Borge, thus allowing the authors to draw the following conclusions: (1) the name X. regulare Nordst. should be retained until further and more detailed studies on form variation within the species are available; (2) the names X. regulare Nordst. var. asteptum Nordst. in Borge, X. regulare Nordst. var. sexangulare Grönbl., X. regulare Nordst. var. sexangulare Grönbl. f. robustior Grönbl., X. fragile Borge, X. fragile Borge forma, and X. fragile Borge var. depauperatum Borge should be considered synonymous, all referring to a single variety of X. regulare Nordst., var. asteptum Nordst. in Borge emend. C. Bic. & L. M. Carv.; (3) X. pseudoregulare Borge must be treated as a variety of X. regulare Nordst. and must be called X. regulare Nordst. var. pseudoregulare (Barge) C. Bic. & L. M. Carv. Finally, a key is given to the 3 varieties of X. regulare Nordst. proposed in the present paper.  相似文献

Summary Isolated chloroplasts from the bundle sheath cells show considerable activity of the ADPG- and UDPG-pyrophosphorylase (EC 2.7.7.9), ADPG- and UDPG-transglucosylase (EC 2.4.1.21), and the starch phosphorylase (EC 2.4.1.1).
