Some typical and more frequent freshwater invertebrates of running waters were studied to examine the influence of styrene, xylene and benzene on their mortality. Snails Amphimelania holandri FÉR. and Lymnaea stagnalis L. and crustacenas Asellus aquaticus L. and Gammarus fossarum KOCH. , were used in the semi-static test. Compounds were added in volume concentrations of 0.005 to 0.4% v/v. For all concentrations LC50 was calculated by probit method, which demonstrated that mortality depends much more on increased concentrations (depending on the initial concentration) than on the length of exposure. Styrene was the most toxic, followed by xylene and then benzene. The species G. fossarum showed marked sensitivity, followed by A. aquaticus, and the species A. holandri and L. stagnalis showed less sensitivity. 相似文献

Film coating thickness of minitablets was estimated in-line during coating in a fluid-bed equipment by means of visual imaging. An existing, commercially available image acquisition system was used for image acquisition, while dedicated image analysis and data analysis methods were developed for this purpose. The methods were first tested against simulated minitablet’s images and after that examined on a laboratory-scale fluid-bed Wurster coating process. An observation window cleaning mechanism was developed for this purpose. Six batches of minitablets were coated in total, using two different dispersions, where for the second dispersion coating endpoint was determined based on the in-line measurement. Coating thickness estimates were calculated from the increasing size distributions of the minitablet’s major and minor lengths, assessed from the acquired images. Information on both the minitablet’s average band and average cap coating thicknesses was obtained. The in-line coating thickness estimates were compared to the coating thickness weight gain calculations and the optical microscope measurements as a reference method. Average band coating thickness estimate was found the most accurate in comparison to microscope measurements, with root mean square error of 1.30 μm. The window cleaning mechanism was crucial for the accuracy of the in-line measurements as was evident from the corresponding decrease of the root mean square error (9.52 μm, band coating thickness). The presented visual imaging approach exhibits accuracy of at least 2 μm and is not susceptible to coating formulation or color variations. The global demand for biofuels in the transport sector may lead to significant biodiversity impacts via multiple human pressures. Biodiversity assessments of biofuels, however, seldom simultaneously address several impact pathways, which can lead to biased comparisons with fossil fuels. The goal of the present study was to quantify the direct influence of habitat loss, water consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on potential global species richness loss due to the current production of first‐generation biodiesel from soybean and rapeseed and bioethanol from sugarcane and corn. We found that the global relative species loss due to biofuel production exceeded that of fossil petrol and diesel production in more than 90% of the locations considered. Habitat loss was the dominating stressor with Chinese corn, Brazilian soybean and Brazilian sugarcane having a particularly large biodiversity impact. Spatial variation within countries was high, with 90th percentiles differing by a factor of 9 to 22 between locations. We conclude that displacing fossil fuels with first‐generation biofuels will likely negatively affect global biodiversity, no matter which feedstock is used or where it is produced. Environmental policy may therefore focus on the introduction of other renewable options in the transport sector. 相似文献

This paper presents the results of a study on chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of Thymus pannonicus All. (Lamiaceae) essential oil from Vojvodina province (north of Serbia). The investigated oil was hydrodistilled from a flowering plant
and analysed by GC and GC-MS. Fifty-three constituents were identified (>97% of total oil), with geranial (41.42%, w/w) and
neral (29.61%, w/w) as the most prominent. The antimicrobial activity of the oil was evaluated using agar disc diffusion and
broth microdilution method against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, two strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae and two strains of Candida albicans. The essential oil exhibited antimicrobial activity to varying degrees against all tested strains. The maximum activity of
T. Pannonicus oil was observed against E. coli, S. aureus and both tested strains of C. Albicans (MIC = 50 μ/ml, each). Moderate activity was observed against P. aeruginosa and one of the tested strains of K. Pneumoniae (MIC = 200 μ/ml), while E. faecalis and the other strain of K. Pneumoniae expressed a higher degree of resistance (MIC > 200 μ/ml). This study confirms that essential oil of T. pannonicus possesses remarkable in vitro antimicrobial activity against several medicinally important pathogens. Neuron B19 of Helisoma is selective in synaptogenesis. Presynaptic mechanisms underlying this selectivity were tested. Acetylcholine-sensitive assay cells were micromanipulated into contact with B19 somata to assess its secretory state. Prior to appropriate muscle target contact, spontaneous synaptic currents were detected; however, action potential-evoked release of neurotransmitter was detected only following hours of muscle contact. Photolysis of a calcium cage, DM-nitrophen, accelerated the frequency of synaptic currents in muscle-contacted, but not novel neuron-contacted, B19 somata. These studies demonstrate that contact with appropriate target muscle enhances the responsiveness of this neuron's secretory machinery to internal calcium levels, thereby imparting the presynaptic cell with the ability to couple action potentials with neurotransmitter release. 相似文献

Remains of Albertona balkanica from the Early Miocene clays of eastern Serbia have shifted the range boundary of this species in direction of Central Europe. The peculiarities in tooth morphology were used for comparison and defining of the possible evolutionary connection with other representatives of fossil Ochotonidae. Due to the similarity with fauna of Aliveri in Greece, the association of small mammals of Snegotin (which includes Albertona) was included in the MN4 zone. 相似文献
