A new human head phantom has been proposed by CENELEC/IEEE, based on a large scale anthropometric survey. This phantom is compared to a homogeneous Generic Head Phantom and three high resolution anatomical head models with respect to specific absorption rate (SAR) assessment. The head phantoms are exposed to the radiation of a generic mobile phone (GMP) with different antenna types and a commercial mobile phone. The phones are placed in the standardized testing positions and operate at 900 and 1800 MHz. The average peak SAR is evaluated using both experimental (DASY3 near field scanner) and numerical (FDTD simulations) techniques. The numerical and experimental results compare well and confirm that the applied SAR assessment methods constitute a conservative approach.  相似文献

When studying pathological gait it is important to correctly identify primary gait anomalies originating from damage to the central nervous and musculoskeletal system and separate them from compensatory changes of gait pattern, which is often challenging due to the lack of knowledge related to biomechanics of pathological gait. A mechanical system consisting of specially designed trousers, special shoe arrangement, and elastic ropes attached to selected locations on the trousers and shoes is proposed to allow emulation of muscle contractures of soleus (SOL) and gastrocnemius (GAS) muscles and both SOL-GAS. The main objective of this study was to evaluate and compare gait variability as recorded in normal gait and when being constrained with the proposed system. Six neurologically and orthopedically intact volunteers walked along a 7-m walkway while gait kinematics and kinetics were recorded using VICON motion analysis system and two AMTI forceplates. Statistical analysis of coefficient of variation of kinematics and kinetics as recorded in normal walking and during the most constrained SOL-GAS condition showed comparable gait variability. Inspection of resulting group averaged gait patterns revealed considerable resemblance to a selected clinical example of spastic diplegia, indicating that the proposed mechanical system potentially represents a novel method for studying emulated pathological gait arising from artificially induced muscle contractures in neurologically intact individuals.  相似文献

Background

In recent years, the genome biology community has expended considerable effort to confront the challenges of managing heterogeneous data in a structured and organized way and developed laboratory information management systems (LIMS) for both raw and processed data. On the other hand, electronic notebooks were developed to record and manage scientific data, and facilitate data-sharing. Software which enables both, management of large datasets and digital recording of laboratory procedures would serve a real need in laboratories using medium and high-throughput techniques.  相似文献

In Lovran (coastal Croatia), a unique forest/orchard of evenly mixed grafted marrons and naturally growing nongrafted sweet chestnut trees exists. This old chestnut population has been devastated by chestnut blight, caused by an aggressive introduced pathogenic fungus, Cryphonectria parasitica. However, initial observations indicated recovery of naturally growing chestnut trees in that area, mediated by Cryphonectria-associated hypovirus (Cryphonectria hypovirus 1 (CHV-1)). Such recovery was not observed on grafted trees. Genotyping both, we confirmed the clonal origin of the grafted ones—marrons. No significant difference was observed between fungal strains isolated from naturally growing trees and the ones from marrons regarding fungal vegetative compatibility types or the prevalence of CHV-1. A strong correlation was observed between the types of canker: active/deep-expanding versus healing callus or superficial necrosis and the absence or presence of CHV-1 in the fungal isolates, sampled from naturally growing trees (Spearman rho 0.686, p value 7.81?×?10?5, Kendall tau 0.686, p value 5.18?×?10?7). Such correlation was not observed on marrons (Spearman rho 0.236, p value 0.235, Kendall tau 0.236, p value 0.084), because, unexpectedly, active/deep-expanding cankers were often associated with hypovirulent fungal isolates. These data indicate that the lack or unequal distribution of naturally occurring hypovirulence were not the cause of substantial marron decay in Lovran. Ecological and age-dependant differences were ruled out because all sampled trees are growing in close proximity and are of similar age. The results imply that the marron genotype is especially vulnerable and its ability to recover is limited even when the hypovirulent strain of the fungus is present in the canker.  相似文献

Organisms have to continuously adapt to changing environmental conditions or undergo developmental transitions. To meet the accompanying change in metabolic demands, the molecular mechanisms of adaptation involve concerted interactions which ultimately induce a modification of the metabolic state, which is characterized by reaction fluxes and metabolite concentrations. These state transitions are the effect of simultaneously manipulating fluxes through several reactions. While metabolic control analysis has provided a powerful framework for elucidating the principles governing this orchestrated action to understand metabolic control, its applications are restricted by the limited availability of kinetic information. Here, we introduce structural metabolic control as a framework to examine individual reactions'' potential to control metabolic functions, such as biomass production, based on structural modeling. The capability to carry out a metabolic function is determined using flux balance analysis (FBA). We examine structural metabolic control on the example of the central carbon metabolism of Escherichia coli by the recently introduced framework of functional centrality (FC). This framework is based on the Shapley value from cooperative game theory and FBA, and we demonstrate its superior ability to assign “share of control” to individual reactions with respect to metabolic functions and environmental conditions. A comparative analysis of various scenarios illustrates the usefulness of FC and its relations to other structural approaches pertaining to metabolic control. We propose a Monte Carlo algorithm to estimate FCs for large networks, based on the enumeration of elementary flux modes. We further give detailed biological interpretation of FCs for production of lactate and ATP under various respiratory conditions.  相似文献
