On the basis of 11280 marriage records of four regions of Karachay-Cherkessia (Karachaevsky, Malokarachaevsky, Ust-Dzhegutinsky, Prikubansky, 193.2 thousand people in total) for 1990–2000, the intensity of Karachay cross-breeding was determined, amounting to 11.7%. Comparison of the intensity of Karachay cross-breeding with that for some other ethnoses is carried out. The ethnic assortativness H is approximately one. The population is characterized a preference for monoethnic marriages. The endogamy index in the studied regions varies from 0.29 to 0.53; after the exclusion from the analysis of repatriates, it increases to 0.34–0.63. The values of local inbreeding in an interval are 0.0001–0.0004, and no differences in terms of isolation by distance are revealed among the regions (0.001). The average square migration is 40–60 km.

Most large‐scale multispecies studies of tree growth have been conducted in tropical and cool temperate forests, whereas Mediterranean water‐limited ecosystems have received much less attention. This limits our understanding of how growth of coexisting tree species varies along environmental gradients in these forests, and the implications for species interactions and community assembly under current and future climatic conditions. Here, we quantify the absolute effect and relative importance of climate, tree size and competition as determinants of tree growth patterns in Iberian forests, and explore interspecific differences in the two components of competitive ability (competitive response and effect) along climatic and size gradients. Spatially explicit neighborhood models were developed to predict tree growth for the 15 most abundant Iberian tree species using permanent‐plot data from the Spanish Second and Third National Forest Inventory (IFN). Our neighborhood analyses showed a climatic and size effect on tree growth, but also revealed that competition from neighbors has a comparatively much larger impact on growth in Iberian forests. Moreover, the sensitivity to competition (i.e. competitive response) of target trees varied markedly along climatic gradients causing significant rank reversals in species performance, particularly under xeric conditions. We also found compelling evidence for strong species‐specific competitive effects in these forests. Altogether, these results constitute critical new information which not only furthers our understanding of important theoretical questions about the assembly of Mediterranean forests, but will also be of help in developing new guidelines for adapting forests in this climatic boundary to global change. If we consider the climatic gradients of this study as a surrogate for future climatic conditions, then we should expect absolute growth rates to decrease and sensitivity to competition to increase in most forests of the Iberian Peninsula (in all but the northern Atlantic forests), making these management considerations even more important in the future. 相似文献
Ascorbic acid is often regarded as an antioxidant in vivo, where it protects against cancer by scavenging DNA-damaging reactive oxygen species. However, the detailed mechanism of the action of ascorbic acid on genetic DNA is still unclear. We examined the effect of ascorbic acid on the higher-order structure of DNA through real-time observation by fluorescence microscopy. We found that ascorbic acid generates a pearling structure in single giant DNA molecules, with elongated and compact regions coexisting along a molecular chain. Results from electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy indicate that the compact regions assume a loosely packed conformation. A possible mechanism for the induction of this conformational change is discussed in relation to the interplay between the higher-order and second-order structures of DNA. 相似文献
The properties of the Ca2+ channel induced by a calmodulin inhibitor in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells were investigated using fluorescent indicators Indo-1 and chlortetracycline. The inhibitor of calmodulin calmidazolium (R24571) in concentrations of 1-2 microM induces a short-term Ca2+ entry and a pulse-like ATP secretion. Repeated addition of R24571 also causes a transient Ca2+ signal. Ca2+ channels induced by R24571 are permeable for Mn2+. Ca2+ entry does not depend on endoplasmic reticulum depletion by thapsigargin, ATP, or ionomycin and is suppressed by nordihydroguaretic acid (EC50 = 6.7 microM), quercetin (EC50 = 1.5 microM), dihydroquercetin (EC50 = 17 microM), arachidonic acid (AA) (EC50 = 8.6 microM), and suramin (EC50 = 0.25 +/- 0.05 MM), and weakly depends on temperature in the range of 18 - 37 degrees C. The apparent activation constant for R24571 and the Hill coefficient are 2.5 +/- 0.2 and 4 +/- 0.3 microM, respectively. The products of arachidonic acid oxidation are neither activators nor inhibitors of these channels. The inhibitory effect of nordihydroguaretic acid is indirect and is conceivably caused by the accumulation of arachidonic acid due to suppression of its lipoxygenase-catalyzed oxidation at phospholipase A2 activation. The maximal level of about 1.3 microM in the dependence of Ca2+ signal amplitude on R24571 concentration points to possible inhibition of the channel by increased Ca2+ concentration in the cytosol. The weak dependence on temperature implies that the channel is highly permeable, the chain of enzymic processes is not involved in Ca2+ entry activation, and the mutual compensation of processes with opposite contributions is possible. Using chlortetracycline fluorescence, we have shown in model experiments on calmodulin solution that Ca2+ induces cooperatively a conformational transition of calmodulin with the exposure of a hydrophobic chlortetracycline-Ca(2+)-binding site. The interaction of R24571 with the CaM-Ca2+ complex results in quenching of fluorescence to its level in water, which is interpreted as the elimination of the availability of calmodulin hydrophobic site for chlortetracycline-Ca+. Nordihydroguaretic acid, quercetin, and dihydroquercetin, but not suramin, also interact with calmodulin, but this does not result in the complete closing of its hydrophobic site. It is supposed that the activation of the Ca2+ channel occurs owing to the activation of calmodulin-dependent phospholipase A2 by R24571, which leads to the formation of a low-molecular short-lived secondary messenger, or because of the interaction of R24571 with calmodulin, which directly inhibits the channel. The termination of Ca2+ entry is probably due to the inhibition of phospholipase A2 and/or of the channel at increased concentrations of arachidonic acid and Ca2+. 相似文献
Genetic and demographic characteristics for urban and rural population of the Chuvash Republic (Chuvashes and Russians) were calculated based on 1122 questionnaires. The sibship sizes for Chuvashes were 2.05 (urban) and 2.78 (rural). For Russians these indices were 1.75 (urban) and 2.00 (rural), respectively. Crow's index and its components were I(m) = 0.04; I(f) = 0.18; and I(tot) = 0.22 for urban, and I(m) = 0.07; I(f) = 0.27; and I(tot) = 0.36 for rural Chuvashes, respectively; and I(m) = 0.04; I(f) = 0.30; and I(tot) = 0.36 for urban, and I(m) = 0.03; I(f) = 0.29; and I(tot) = 0.33 for rural Russians, respectively. 相似文献
The sll1703 gene, encoding an Arabidopsis homologue of the thylakoid membrane-associated SppA peptidase, was inactivated by interposon mutagenesis in Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803. Upon acclimation from a light intensity of 50 to 150 microE m(-2) s(-1), the mutant preserved most of its phycobilisome content, whereas the wild-type strain developed a bleaching phenotype due to the loss of about 40% of its phycobiliproteins. Using in vivo and in vitro experiments, we demonstrate that the DeltasppA1 strain does not undergo the cleavage of the L(R)(33) and L(CM)(99) linker proteins that develops in the wild type exposed to increasing light intensities. We conclude that a major contribution to light acclimation under a moderate light regime in cyanobacteria originates from an SppA1-mediated cleavage of phycobilisome linker proteins. Together with changes in gene expression of the major phycobiliproteins, it contributes an additional mechanism aimed at reducing the content in phycobilisome antennae upon acclimation to a higher light intensity. 相似文献
The frequency of heterozygote carriers of (risk zone, alleles of FMR1 gene (40-47 CGG-repeats) was significantly higher in group of patients with ovarian dysfunction than in control group I. The tendency for higher frequency of those alleles was observed in patients with "poor response" to superovulation induction in IVF cycles. The average number of oocytes and follicles, which was obtained after stimulation of superovulation, was significantly decreased in FMR1 gene "risk zone" alleles carriers compared to patients with normal alleles of FMR1 gene. The average general dosage of exogenous gonadotrophin, necessary for superovulation induction was significantly higher in heterozygote carriers of FMR1 gene "risk zone" alleles than in patients with normal genotype. Thereby, the FMR1 gene "risk zone" alleles can be one of the hereditary susceptibility factors of impairment nature and stimulated ovulation. 相似文献
