Background
Poor nutrition is harmful to one’s health as it can lead to overweight and obesity and a number of chronic diseases. Understanding consumer perceptions toward diet and nutrition is critical to advancing nutrition-related population health interventions to address such issues. The purpose of this paper was to examine Canadians’ perceived health and diet status, compared to their actual health status, and general concern about their own diet and beliefs about health. Also analyzed were some of the perceived barriers to eating “healthy” foods, with a focus on the availability of “healthy” processed foods.Methods
Two surveys were administered online to a group of Canadian panelists from all ten provinces during May 2010 to January 2011. Thirty thousand were invited; 6,665 completed the baseline survey and 5,494 completed the second survey. Panelists were selected to be nationally representative of the Canadian adult population by age, sex, province and education level, according to 2006 census data.Results
Approximately one third of Canadians perceived their health or diet to be very good while very few Canadians perceived their health or diet to be very poor. While the majority of Canadians believed food and nutrition to be very important for improving one’s health, fewer Canadians were concerned about their own diets. The majority of Canadians reported difficulty finding “healthy” processed foods (low in salt and sugar and with sufficient vitamins and minerals). Many also reported difficulty finding healthy foods that are affordable.Conclusion
Although consumers believe that nutrition is one of the most important factors for maintaining health, there are still a number of attitudinal and perceived environmental barriers to healthy eating. 相似文献102.

Anoxybacillus flavithermus subsp. yunnanensis is the only strictly thermophilic bacterium that is able to tolerate a broad range of toxic solvents at its optimal temperature of 55-60°C. The type strain E13T was isolated from water-sediment slurries collected from a hot spring. This study presents the draft genome sequence of A. flavithermus subsp. yunnanensis E13T and its annotation. The 2,838,393bp long genome (67 contigs) contains 3,035 protein-coding genes and 85 RNA genes, including 10 rRNA genes, and no plasmids. Lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries are promising candidates for energy storage, but suffer from capacity and cycling challenges caused by the serious shuttling effect of polysulfide (PS) ions. To address these issues, a sodium alginate (SA)‐derived affinity laminated chromatography membrane built‐in electrode is designed. This is the first attempt to utilize this type of membrane, which is widely used for the selective adsorption of proteins, in the battery field. An ordered multilayer structure throughout the electrode can easily be obtained, and the number of membrane layers can be also conveniently controlled by varying the cross‐linking time of SA. The PS shuttling effect is efficiently suppressed and the permeability of PSs is reduced by enveloping the carbon/sulfur powder in ultrathin laminated chromatography membranes. As a result, these designed electrodes deliver a superhigh initial capacity of 1492 mA h g?1, with a capacity retention almost 20% higher than the contrast. This low‐cost and easily mass‐producible strategy inspired by affinity chromatography is expected to effectively solve the PS shuttling problem toward high‐loading and long‐lifetime Li–S batteries in practice. 相似文献

Typhi)中非编码RNA617(non-coding RNA617,ncRNA617)的分子特性,并研究其对生物膜形成的影响及作用机制。采用Northern blot方法检测ncRNA617的表达,通过cDNA 5’末端快速扩增技术(5’-rapid amplification of cDNA end,5’RACE)和逆转录-聚合酶链式反应(reverse transcriotion-polymerase chain reaction,3’RT-PCR)实验分析ncRNA617可能的转录起始位点和终止位点;构建ncRNA617缺陷菌株、回补菌株和过表达菌株等相关菌株,通过生物膜形成实验,观察ncRNA617对伤寒沙门菌生物膜形成的影响,并用实时荧光定量聚合酶链式反应(quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction,qPCR)分析生物膜形成相关基因表达水平的变化,综合运用生物信息学方法预测ncRNA617和差异基因的结合区域,初步分析ncRNA617发挥调控作用的机制。结果显示,伤寒沙门菌确有ncRNA617的表达,长度约300 nt,其转录起始位点位于mig-14终止密码子下游967 nt处,终止位点位于t2681起始密码子上游 2 378~2 560 nt处。与野生对照菌株相比,ncRNA617缺陷菌株生物膜形成能力增强(P<0.05),回补菌株的生物膜形成能力恢复至野生菌株水平,过表达菌株的生物膜形成能力有所下降(P<0.05)。qPCR结果表明,ncRNA617可负向调控多个生物膜形成相关基因的转录表达水平(P<0.05)。经生物信息学方法预测发现,ncRNA617与差异基因有不同的结合区域。本研究结果提示,ncRNA617在伤寒沙门菌中存在,其长度约270~452 nt。ncRNA617可能通过靶向结合生物膜形成相关基因下调基因表达,从而负向调控伤寒沙门菌生物膜的生成。 相似文献

Electron microscopy(EM) should be used in the front line for detection of agents in emergencies and bioterrorism,on accounts of its speed and accuracy.However,the number of EM diagnostic laboratories has decreased considerably and an increasing number of people encounter difficulties with EM results.Therefore,the research on viral structure and morphology has become important in EM diagnostic practice.EM has several technological advantages,and should be a fundamental tool in clinical diagnosis of viruses,particularly when agents are unknown or unsuspected.In this article,we review the historical contribution of EM to virology,and its use in virus differentiation,localization of specific virus antigens,virus-cell interaction,and viral morphogenesis.It is essential that EM investigations are based on clinical and comprehensive pathogenesis data from light or confocal microscopy.Furthermore,avoidance of artifacts or false results is necessary to exploit fully the advantages while minimizing its limitations. 相似文献
