Crop genotypes differ in their tolerance to micronutrient-deficient soils, but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. This paper reviews information on mechanisms of tolerance to Zn and Mn deficiency, concentrating on plant-induced changes in chemistry and biology of rhizosphere that alter availability of Zn and Mn.When grown under conditions of Zn deficiency, wheat genotypes more tolerant of Zn deficiency released greater amounts of phytosiderophore, 2-deoxymugineic acid, than the sensitive genotypes. In addition, Zn deficiency increased numbers of fluorescent pseudomonads in rhizosphere of all wheat genotypes tested, but the effect was particularly obvious for genotypes tolerant of Zn deficiency.Rhizosphere of wheat genotypes contained an increased proportion of Mn reducers under Mn-deficiency compared to Mn-sufficiency conditions. When grown in soils of low Mn availability, some wheat genotypes tolerant of Mn deficiency (like cv. Aroona) had a greater ratio of Mn-reducers to Mn-oxidisers in the rhizosphere compared to the sensitive genotypes. In contrast, microflora in the rhizosphere of other wheat genotypes tolerant of Mn deficiency (like C8MM) did not show the same response as Aroona. It therefore appears that different mechanisms may underlie the expression of tolerance to Mn deficiency in wheat genotypes.It is concluded that wheat genotypes tolerant of Zn or Mn deficiency have a capacity to alter chemical and biological properties of the rhizosphere, thus increasing availability of critical micronutrients.  相似文献

Four cultivars of ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam. cvs. Gulf, Marshall, Urbana, and Wilo) were grown in nutrient solution (pH 4.2) at two Al levels (0 and 74 μM). Cations were desorbed from the Donnan free space of roots of 15-, 23-, and 35-day-old plants using BaCl2, BaCl2-triethanolamine, NH4OAc, and KCl. The amounts of desorbed Ca2+ and K+ decreased, while desorption of Mn2+ and Na+ increased with plant age. Differences between 15- and 35-day-old plants, but not between 15- and 23-day-old, were significant. Aluminum considerably decreased the amount of desorbed divalent cations (Ca2+, Mg2+) and increased the amount of desorbed K+ and Na+. Ability to resist these changes appeared to be one of the mechanisms determining Al tolerance of ryegrass cultivars.  相似文献

Callus tissue was induced on barley mesocotyl explants of germinated seven-day-old seedlings on MS medium supplemented with 2,4-D or 2,4,5-T in high concentrations. Two morphologically different tissue cultures were maintained in vitro for a long time: a callus tissue without organogenesis and a culture with high rhizogenic capacity. Shoots and plantlets were generated when the auxin-media induced callus was transferred to medium supplemented with 3 M TIBA. In 62% of cultures, during the first five subcultures, four to twentyeight plants per single mesocotyl were obtained. Some cultures produced shoots even in the 9th subculture, being in culture for nearly 14 months. The largest number of plants obtained per one mesocotyl was forty. Over the last 40 years, new sunflower downy mildew isolates (Plasmopara halstedii) have overcome major gene resistances in sunflower, requiring the identification of additional and possibly more durable broad‐spectrum resistances. Here, 354 RXLR effectors defined in silico from our new genomic data were classified in a network of 40 connected components sharing conserved protein domains. Among 205 RXLR effector genes encoding conserved proteins in 17 P. halstedii pathotypes of varying virulence, we selected 30 effectors that were expressed during plant infection as potentially essential genes to target broad‐spectrum resistance in sunflower. The transient expression of the 30 core effectors in sunflower and in Nicotiana benthamiana leaves revealed a wide diversity of targeted subcellular compartments, including organelles not so far shown to be targeted by oomycete effectors such as chloroplasts and processing bodies. More than half of the 30 core effectors were able to suppress pattern‐triggered immunity in N. benthamiana, and five of these induced hypersensitive responses (HR) in sunflower broad‐spectrum resistant lines. HR triggered by PhRXLRC01 co‐segregated with Pl22 resistance in F3 populations and both traits localized in 1.7 Mb on chromosome 13 of the sunflower genome. Pl22 resistance was physically mapped on the sunflower genome recently sequenced, unlike all the other downy mildew resistances published so far. PhRXLRC01 and Pl22 are proposed as an avirulence/resistance gene couple not previously described in sunflower. Core effector recognition is a successful strategy to accelerate broad‐spectrum resistance gene identification in complex crop genomes such as sunflower.  相似文献

Proteinases are involved in essential steps in cartilage and bone homeostasis. Consequently, efforts have been made to establish their potential role in the pathology of rheumatic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and spondyloarthritis. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are sensitive markers of disease severity and response to treatment, and therefore they have potential in the assessment of rheumatic diseases. Despite disappointing early results with synthetic inhibitors of MMPs, there is still much scope for developing effective and safe MMPs inhibitors, and consequently to deliver new options to inhibit joint destruction.  相似文献

In the school-year 2002/2003 a prospective epidemiological study was performed with the aim of evaluating the prevalence and distribution of scoliosis in the population of schoolchildren from Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The general check-up of primary-school children covered a total of 2,517 children aged 7-14. The children in which at least one positive symptom of scoliosis was found were directed to undergo orthopedic examination and--if indicated--radiography. Incorrect posture was noted in 33.4% of children, and 11.8% of children were sent to orthopedic specialist examination. The prevalence of structural scoliosis amounted to 3.1%, with the spine curvature threshold being 10 degrees. In eight children (0.32%; 1 boy and 7 girls) a curvature of 20 degrees or more was diagnosed. The most common type of curvature was the thoracal (39%) and the thoraco-lumbar (39%) while 14 children had a double curvature (17.8%). A scoliosis was detected due to here performed check-up in 83.5% of children with scoliosis. No case of serious spine deformity (45 degree or more) was recorded, due to regular general check-ups taking place biannually in this population.  相似文献

The present study examines long-term effects of occupational exposure to formaldehyde fumes on lung function. Forced spirometry and diffusing lung capacity were measured in 16 health-service professionals (8 medical doctors and 8 laboratory technicians) working at the pathoanatomic laboratory for at least 4 years with daily exposure 8 +/- 1 hours. Control group employed 16 males, which were matched by age and stature to members of the exposed group. Only non-smokers were included in the study. Spirometric parameters in study participants exposed to formaldehyde fumes compared to control group were not significantly different indicating absence of restrictive and/or obstructive deterioration of lung function in exposed group. The only parameter differing in two groups was blood volume of pulmonary capillaries (Vc') which was significantly larger in a group exposed to formaldehyde fumes. The possibility that the hyperemic lung reaction is the consequence of the exposure to formaldehyde fumes should be further explored.  相似文献
