The interactive effects of three levels of N (mM) (low 0.36, medium 2.1 and high 6.4) and two levels of P (mM) (low 0.10 and high 0.48) on growth and resource allocation of Canna indica Linn. were studied in wetland microcosms. After 91 days of plant growth, there was a significant interactive effect of N and P on plant growth, but not on resource allocation (except for allocation of N to leaves and allocation of P to the stems). The plant growth positively responded to the relatively higher nutrient availability (taller plants with more stems, leaves and flowers), but the growth performance was not significantly different between the medium N-low P and high N-low P treatments. At high P, the total biomass in the high N was about 51% higher than that in the medium N and about 348% higher than that in the low N. The growth performance was related to the physiological responses. The photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm) increased from 0.843 to 0.855 with an increase in N additions. The photosynthetic rate increased from 13 to 16 μmol m−2 s−1 in the low P levels and from 14 to 20 μmol m−2 s−1 in the high P levels with an increase in N applications, but significant difference was only between the low and medium N levels, regardless of the P levels. The tissue concentrations of N increased with an increase in N applications and decreased with an increase in P additions, whereas reverse was true for tissue concentrations of P. The highest concentrations of N and P in leaves were 30.8 g N kg−1 in the high N-low P treatment and 4.9 g P kg−1 in the low N-high P treatment. The percent biomass allocation to aboveground tissues in the high N was nearly twice that in the low N treatments. The N allocation to aboveground tissues was slightly larger in high N than in low N treatments, whereas the P allocation to aboveground tissues increased with an increase in the N addition. Although some patterns of biomass allocation were similar to those of nutrient allocation, they did not totally reflect the nutrient allocation. These results imply that in order to enhance the treatment performance, appropriately high nutrient availability of N and P are required to stimulate the growth of C. indica in constructed wetlands.  相似文献

The effect of Zn fertilisation on tolerance of Medicago truncatula to infection by the root-rotting pathogen Rhizoctonia solani (AG 8) was studied in a field survey and in two experiments in controlled conditions. From the field survey, the concentration of Zn in the shoots of medics was found to be inversely related to the severity of disease on the root. Overall, the addition of Zn to Zn-deficient soil in controlled environment experiments resulted in reduced yield loss in the presence of R. solani, a reduction in disease score and no change in the concentration of nutrients in the shoots. However, under Zn deficiency, increasing levels of added R. solani resulted in significant yield loss, an increase in disease score and a reduction in concentration of Zn in the roots. This occurred despite a decrease in the number of infection sites caused by the fungus on the root and a lower amount of R. solani DNA extracted in medics deficient in Zn compared with plants supplied with Zn. While plants supplied with Zn were able to maintain a stable concentration of Zn in the shoots, the concentration of Zn in the roots also declined with increasing levels of R. solani. In conclusion, Zn application does not directly inhibit infection by R. solani, nor reduce its pathogenicity, but it does strongly increase root growth. The net result is that Zn-sufficient plants are more tolerant to the effects of root pruning by the fungus than Zn-deficient plants.  相似文献

In symbiotically-grown legumes, rhizosphere acidification may be caused by a high cation/anion uptake ratio and the excretion of organic acids, the relative importance of the two processes depending on the phosphorus nutritional status of the plants. The present study examined the effect of P deficiency on extrusions of H+ and organic acid anions (OA) in relation to uptake of excess cations in N2-fixing white lupin (cv. Kiev Mutant). Plants were grown for 49 days in nutrient solutions treated with 1, 5 or 25 mmol P m−3 Na2HPO4 in a phytotron room. The increased formation of cluster roots occurred prior to a decrease in plant growth in response to P deficiency. The number of cluster roots was negatively correlated with tissue P concentrations below 2.0 g kg−1 in shoots and 3 g kg−1 in roots. Cluster roots generally had higher concentrations of Mg, Ca, N, Cu, Fe, and Mn but lower concentrations of K than non-cluster roots. Extrusion of protons and OA (90% citrate and 10% malate) from roots was highly dependent on P supply. The amounts of H+ extruded per unit root biomass decreased with time during the experiment. On the equimolar basis, H+ extrusion by P-deficient plants (grown at 1 and 5 mmol P m−3) were, on average, 2–3-fold greater than OA exudation. The excess cation content in plants was generally the highest at 1 mmol P m−3 and decreased with increasing P supply. The ratio of H+ release to excess cation uptake increased with decreasing P supply. The results suggest that increased exudation of OA due to P deficiency is associated with H+ extrusion but contributes only a part of total acidification.  相似文献

A model of three-dimensional root growth has been developed to simulate the interactions between root systems, water and nitrate in the rooting environment. This interactive behaviour was achieved by using an external-supply/internal-demand regulation system for the allocation of endogenous plant resources. Data from pot experiments on lupins heterogeneously supplied with nitrate were used to test and parameterise the model for future simulation work. The model reproduced the experimental results well (R 2 = 0.98), simulating both the root proliferation and enhanced nitrate uptake responses of the lupins to differential nitrate supply. These results support the use of the supply/demand regulation system for modelling nitrate uptake by lupins. Further simulation work investigated the local uptake response of lupins when nitrate was supplied to a decreasing fraction of the root system. The model predicted that the nitrate uptake activity of lupin roots will increase as the fraction of root system with access to nitrate decreases, but is limited to an increase of around twice that of a uniformly supplied control. This work is the first example of a modelled root system responding plastically to external nutrient supply. This model will have a broad range of applications in the study of the interactions between root systems and their spatially and temporally heterogeneous environment.  相似文献

Transport of zinc and manganese to developing wheat grains   总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11
An understanding of the transport pathway used by Zn and Mn to enter developing grains may allow measures to increase the Zn and Mn content of wheat grain grown on Zn/Mn deficient soils. For this reason, transport of Zn and Mn into developing grains of wheat ( Triticum aestivum L. cv. Aroona) was investigated. Detached ears (18–22 days post-anthesis) were cultured for 48 h in a solution containing 185 kBq of 65Zn and 185 kBq of 54Mn. Transport of 65Zn to the grain was unaffected by removal of glumes but was slightly reduced after the lemma was removed. Heat girdling the peduncle slightly reduced the amount of 65Zn transported to the grain, whilst heat girdling the rachilla reduced transport of 65Zn to the grain to a greater degree, suggesting phloem transport to the rachilla. The transport inhibitor CCCP (carbonyl cyanide m -chlorophenyl hydrazone) blocked 65Zn transport to grain but not to lemma and glumes. Removing glumes and lemma and heat girdling the peduncle did not affect transport of 54Mn, but transport was slightly affected by heat girdling the rachilla, indicating xylem transport. CCCP blocked transport of 54Mn into the grain but not to lemma and glumes. It was concluded that xylem-to-phloem transfer of Zn occurs in the rachis and to a lesser extent in peduncle and lemma. The results suggest that the lemma may be an important site for phloem loading when the concentration of Zn within the xylem is high. The data also suggest that Mn was predominantly translocated to the spikelets in the xylem, but that transport to the grain was dependent upon membrane transport before entering the grain. Phloem loading of Mn into the grain vascular system may have occurred at the site of xylem discontinuity in the floral axis.  相似文献

We have elaborated a one-pot three-component assembly of trityl olmesartan medoxomil starting from commercially available ethyl 4-(2-hydroxypropan-2-yl)-2-propyl-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate, 5-(4′-(bromomethyl)-[1,1′-biphenyl]-2-yl)-1-trityl-1H-tetrazole and 4-(chloromethyl)-5-methyl-1,3-dioxol-2-one intermediates. The developed and optimized one-pot process provides 72–75% yield of trityl olmesartan medoxomil over three steps, which represents in average ca. 90% yield per synthetic step, on a 300?g scale. The process is conducted in simple fashion and provides highly pure trityl olmesartan medoxomil (up to 97.5% by HPLC), which can be easily converted to olmesartan medoxomil that fully complies with all ICH requirements. Furthermore, the described process significantly improves the primary process to trityl olmesartan medoxomil by drastic reduction of required unit operations and application of single reaction solvent through the reaction sequence. Moreover, the amount of used organic solvents was notably reduced. The developed process has provided solid bases for industrial production of trityl olmesartan medoxomil.  相似文献

Waterlogging stress disturbs plant metabolism through increased ion (manganese and iron) toxicity resulting from the changes in the soil redox potential under hypoxic conditions. Our previous study found a significant correlation between the tolerance to Mn2+ toxicity and waterlogging stress tolerance in barley, suggesting that waterlogging tolerance could be increased by improving the tolerance to Mn2+ toxicity. In this study, a doubled-haploid (DH) population from the cross between barley varieties Yerong and Franklin (waterlogging-tolerant and -sensitive, respectively) was used to identify QTL controlling tolerance to Mn2+ toxicity based on chlorophyll content and plant survival as selection criteria. Four significant QTL for plant survival under Mn2+ stress (QSur.yf.1H, QSur.yf.3H, QSur.yf.4H, and QSur.yf.6H) were identified in this population at the seedling stage. Two significant QTL (QLC.yf.3H and QLC.yf.6H) controlling leaf chlorosis under Mn2+ stress were identified on chromosomes 3H and 6H close to QSur.yf.3H and QSur.yf.6H. The major QTL QSur.yf.3H, located near the marker Bmag0013, explained 21% of the phenotypic variation. The major QTL for plant survival on 3H was validated in a different DH population (TX9425/Naso Nijo). This major QTL could potentially be used in breeding programmes to enhance tolerance to both manganese toxicity and waterlogging.  相似文献

Effect of zinc (Zn) nutritional status on uptake of inorganic 65Zn was studied in rye (Secale cereale, cv. Aslim), three bread wheat (Triticum aestivum, cvs. Dagdas, Bezostaja, BDME-10) and durum wheat (Triticum durum, cv. Kunduru-1149) cultivars grown for 13 days in nutrient solution under controlled environmental conditions. The cultivars were selected based on their response to Zn deficiency and to Zn fertilization in calcareous soils under field conditions. When grown in Zn-deficient calcareous soil in the field, the rye cultivar had the highest, and the durum wheat the lowest Zn efficiency. Among the bread wheats, BDME-10 showed higher susceptibility to Zn deficiency and Bezostaja and Dagdas were less affected by Zn deficiency. Similarly to field conditions, in nutrient solution visual Zn deficiency symptoms (i.e. necrotic lesions on leaf blade) appeared to be more severe in Kunduru-1149 and BDME-10 and less severe in rye cultivar Aslim. Under Zn deficiency, shoot concentrations of Zn were similar between all cultivars. Cultivars with adequate Zn supply did not differ in uptake and root-to-shoot translocation rate of 65Zn, but under Zn deficiency there were distinct differences; rye showed the highest rate of Zn uptake and the durum wheat the lowest. In the case of bread wheat cultivars, 65Zn uptake rate was about the same and not related to their differential Zn efficiency. Under Zn deficiency, rye had the highest rate of root-to-shoot translocation of 65Zn, while all bread and durum wheat cultivars were similar in their capacity to translocate 65Zn from roots to shoots. When Zn2+ activity in uptake solution ranged between 117 p M and 34550 pM, Zn-efficient and Zn-inefficient bread wheat genotypes were again similar in uptake and root-to-shoot translocation rate of 65Zn. The results indicate that high Zn efficiency of rye can be attributed to its greater Zn uptake capacity from soils. The inability of the durum wheat cultivar Kunduru-1149 to have a high Zn uptake capacity seems to be an important reason for its Zn inefficiency. Differential Zn efficiency between the bread wheat cultivars used in this study is not related to their capacity to take up inorganic Zn. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We examined cluster root formation and root exudation by white lupin (Lupinus albus L. cv. Kiev Mutant) in response to growth medium and phosphorus supply in a sand/solution split-root system. The split-root system consisted of a nutrient solution compartment and a siliceous sand compartment. Phosphorus was applied at 1 (low-P plants) or 50 (high-P plants) μM as KH2PO4 to the solution compartment and at 10, 50 or 250 mg P kg−1 as hydroxyapatite (Ca-P) to the sand compartment. In contrast to the high-P plants, P concentration and P uptake in the low-P plants increased with increasing P supply to the sand compartment. The NaHCO3-extractable P was lower in the rhizosphere of the low-P plants than the high-P ones. The proton extrusion rate by the solution-grown roots of the low-P plants was higher than that of the high-P plants at the early growth stage. For the low-P plants, the proportion of dry root biomass allocated to cluster roots was higher in the solution compartment than that in the sand compartment. The citrate exudation increased in the sand compartment and decreased in the solution compartment with time, showing a lack of synchronization in citrate exudation by two root halves grown in different media. The cluster root proportion and citrate exudation in both compartments decreased with increasing shoot P concentration. An additional experiment with no P added to either root compartment showed that the proportion of cluster roots was about 9% lower in the sand than solution compartments. The results suggest that cluster root formation and citrate exudation can be significantly affected by the root growth medium in addition to being regulated by shoot P status. More P can be exploited from sparingly available Ca-P by the low-P plants than the high-P ones due to greater citrate exudation under P deficiency.  相似文献
