Abstract

Despite the fact that cadmium (Cd) is a non-essential element for plants, it can influence nutrients and affect human health. Potassium (K) can influence the transportation of heavy metals (HMs) in soil-plant systems. Here, a greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of Cd and K fertilizers on the different partitioning forms of HMs, their concentrations, uptake in the shoots and roots of Ocimum basilicum. Treatments comprised 2 levels of Cd (0 and 40?mg kg?1) and three levels of K (0, 100, and 200?mg kg?1) from three sources, i.e. KCl, K2SO4, and K-nano-chelate. 40?mg Cd kg?1 increased the shoot (above ground parts) Cd concentration. Addition of K as KCl, K2SO4, and K-nano-chelate increased the presence of Cd in shoots by 86, 82 and 76%, respectively, compared to the control. Using the nano-chelate of K can increase the accumulation of Cd in plants grown on contaminated soils to lesser content than that of the other forms of K. Application of 40?mg Cd kg?1 reduced the concentration of Zn, Cu, and Mn in the shoot, but increased shoot Fe concentration. Transfer factor (TF), which is the ratio of metal concentration in shoot to its concentration in root, of the studied HMs, was significantly affected by Cd and K treatments. Therefore, the proper form and dose of chemical fertilizers should be applied in Cd-contaminated soils.  相似文献

Hydroxynaphthoquinone-based inhibitors of the lysine acetyltransferase KAT3B (p300), such as plumbagin, are relatively toxic. Here, we report that free thiol reactivity and redox cycling properties greatly contribute to the toxicity of plumbagin. A reactive 3rd position in the naphthoquinone derivatives is essential for thiol reactivity and enhances redox cycling. Using this clue, we synthesized PTK1, harboring a methyl substitution at the 3rd position of plumbagin. This molecule loses its thiol reactivity completely and its redox cycling ability to a lesser extent. Mechanistically, non-competitive, reversible binding of the inhibitor to the lysine acetyltransferase (KAT) domain of p300 is largely responsible for the acetyltransferase inhibition. Remarkably, the modified inhibitor PTK1 was a nearly non-toxic inhibitor of p300. The present report elucidates the mechanism of acetyltransferase activity inhibition by 1,4-naphthoquinones, which involves redox cycling and nucleophilic adduct formation, and it suggests possible routes of synthesis of the non-toxic inhibitor.  相似文献

Vaspin, an adipocytokine that has been isolated from the visceral adipose tissue, is a member of the serine protease inhibitor family. In humans, serum vaspin levels are correlated with body mass index (BMI) and obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The present study is the first investigation to examine the association between vaspin rs2236242 gene polymorphism and risk of PCOS in Iranian patients. This case–control study was performed on 150 patients with PCOS and 150 healthy women. The vaspin genotypes were determined using tetra-amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction (T-ARMS-PCR). Our finding showed that there are significant differences in genotype frequencies between case and control group regarding vaspin rs2236242 polymorphism (OR = 0.59, CI = 0.37–0.95, p = 0.03). The A allele decreased the risk of PCOS (OR = 0.67, CI = 0.46–0.96, p = 0.03) as compared to the T allele. There was no significant association between vaspin rs2236242 gene polymorphism and PCOS after adjusting genotypes for BMI. In conclusion, our data suggest a significant association between vaspin rs2236242 polymorphism and the PCOS but this relationship is affected by obesity status.  相似文献

Colloidals solution of Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), capped with β‐cyclodextrins (β‐CD) as inclusion complexes, were found to enhance the chemiluminescence (CL) intensity of the luminol–diperiodatoargentate(III) (DPA) system. On injection of cysteine into the luminol–DPA–β‐CD–Fe3O4 MNPs inclusion complexes system, the CL intensity is strongly enhanced. The enhanced CL signal is ascribed to the catalytic effect of Fe3O4 MNPs capped with β‐CD, which is assumed to stabilize the CL intermediate. Based on these findings, a rapid and sensitive assay was developed for the determination of cysteine in human serum. The effects of analytical variables on the CL signal were studied and optimized. Under the optimum conditions, the CL intensity was directly proportional to the concentration of cysteine in the range 8.0 × 10–9–1.0 × 10–6 mol/L. The detection limit was 2.8 × 10–9 mol/L (3 Sb/m) and the relative standard deviation (RSD) for 10 replicate determinations of 1.0 × 10–7 mol/L cysteine was 3.5%. The proposed method was applied to the sensitive determination of cysteine in human serum samples, and compared with the Ellman method with satisfactory results. A pot experiment was conducted to study the effect of single and co-inoculation of Bacillus mycoides and Micrococcus roseus strains, indigenous to heavy metal (HM)–contaminated soils, on the growth and essential-nutrient and Cd uptake of maize in a soil polluted with 100 and 200 mg Cd kg?1. Increasing Cd levels significantly decreased shoot and root dry weights, and shoot P, Fe, Zn, and Mn uptake. All bacterial treatments significantly increased biomass and shoot nutrient uptake of plant compared with control in the soil polluted with Cd. Inoculation of plants with B. mycoides and consortium of two bacteria significantly increased, whereas M. roseus significantly decreased, shoot and root Cd uptake, and Cd transfer and translocation factors compared with control in Cd-polluted conditions. The results showed that B. mycoides and consortium of two bacteria had an effective role in phytoextraction and M. roseus was the most effective treatment in phytostabilization of Cd.  相似文献

A new species of tooth-carp, Aphanius arakensissp. n., is described from the Namak Lake basin in Iran. The new species is distinguished by the congeners distributed in Iran by the following combination of characters: 10-12 anal fin rays, 28-32 lateral line scales, 10-13 caudal peduncle scales, 8-10 gill rakers, 12-19, commonly 15-16, clearly defined flank bars in males, a more prominent pigmentation along the flank added by relatively big blotches in the middle and posterior flank segments in females, a short but high antirostrum of the otolith that has a wide excisura, and a ventral rim with some small, drop-like processes, and 19 molecular apomorphies (17 transitions, two transversions) in the cytochrome b gene. It was suggested based on the phylogenetic analysis that the new species is sister to Aphanius sophiae from the Kor River and that Aphanius farsicus from the Maharlu Lake basin is sister to Aphanius arakensis plus Aphanius sophiae. A noticeable feature of the Aphanius diversity in Iran is the conservatism of the external morphology as well as morphometric and meristic characters, while distinctive differences are present in genetic characters, otolith morphology, and male color pattern. Transformation of the latter was probably driven by sexual selection.  相似文献

This study investigated the response of hippocampal RSA, recorded from electrodes in CA1 and the contralateral dentate gyrus of urethane-anaesthetized rats, to atropine sulphate administered at 15 min intervals in a cumulative dose-response schedule (1, 3, 10, 50 and 50 mg x kg(-1) i.p.). The power of CA1 and dentate gyrus RSA in the 3-7 Hz band was increased after administering the first 3 doses of atropine (1, 3 and 10 mg x kg(-1) cumulatively) in rats held in the stereotaxic frame or removed from the frame and given electrical sensory stimulation to the base of the tail. This increase in RSA was dependent on sensory input, since it was not seen in animals outside the frame unless sensory stimulation was given, and it was abolished by increasing the dose of atropine (an additional 50 and 50 mg x kg(-1) cumulatively). Methylatropine (6 mg x kg(-1) i.p.) did not increase RSA power. The biphasic effect of atropine on sensory-evoked hippocampal RSA activity may be explained by differential effects at pre- and post-synaptic sites e.g. in the septo-hippocampal system or on pathways processing sensory information.  相似文献
