The domesticated sunflower,Helianthus annuus, is an important economic crop, yet molecular data regarding its evolution are limited. Here we review morphological, geographical, archaeological, and molecular evidence pertaining to its origin and development. New isozyme and chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) evidence is also presented.Morphological, geographical, and archaeological evidence has led to the hypothesis that the domesticated sunflower was derived from a wild/weedy form ofH. annuus possibly in the Midwest. Molecular evidence was concordant with this hypothesis. A high degree of enzymatic and cpDNA sequence similarity was observed between wild and domesticatedH. annuus, and domesticatedH. annuus contained a subset of the alleles and cpDNAs found in wildH. annuus. The extensive polymorphism in the wild plants and the virtual monomorphism in cultivated lines for both isozyme and cpDNA phenotypes further suggest a single origin of the domesticated sunflower from a very limited gene pool. In addition, Native American varieties of the domesticated sunflower were genetically more variable than other cultivated lines, possibly indicating that they gave rise to the other cultivated stocks. Molecular evidence did not, however, allow conclusions as to the exact geographic origin of the domesticated sunflower.  相似文献

Porcine lutropin shares with ovine lutropin common structural features. They exhibit identical vacuum circular dichroism down to 170 nm with characteristic negative bands at 173, 194, and 210 nm. The band at 210 ± 1 nm is shifted to 201 nm upon dissociation with disappearance of the 194-nm band. For the two hormones the acid transition involves a significant loss of the three recognized periodic structures α helix, β sheet, and β turns of type II, unshields near the same number of tyrosyl residues (2.2 ± 0.7), and gives rise to an identical absorption difference at 287 nm in a two-step mechanism. However, pLH also exhibits noticeable differences: 5 to 10 times lower rates of acid transition with a lower pKa (3.7 ± 0.1) and different transition behavior of tyrosine residues compared to ovine lutropin.  相似文献

Thiamine and Cholinergic Transmission in the Electric Organ of Torpedo   总被引:4,自引:4,他引:0  
The electric organ of Torpedo marmorata was found to contain as much as 120 +/- 24 nmol of thiamine per g of fresh tissue. The vitamin was distributed as nonesterified thiamine (32%), thiamine monophosphate (22%), thiamine diphosphate (8%), and an important proportion of thiamine triphosphate (38%). A high level of thiamine triphosphate was found in synaptosomes isolated from the electric organ. In contrast, the synaptic vesicles did not show any enrichment in thiamine, whereas they contained a marked peak of acetylcholine (ACh) and ATP. Thus thiamine seems to be very abundant in cholinergic nerve terminals; its localization is apparently extravesicular, either in the axoplasm or in association with plasma membrane. When calcium was reduced and magnesium increased in the external medium, the efficiency of transmission was diminished, owing to inhibition of ACh release; in a parallel manner the degree of thiamine phosphorylation was found to increase--this condition is known to modify the repartition of ACh between vesicular and extravesicular compartments. Electrical stimulation, which causes periodic variations of the level of ACh and ATP, also caused significant changes in thiamine esters. In addition, related changes of the vitamin and the transmitter were observed under other conditions, suggesting a functional link between the metabolism of thiamine and that of ACh in cholinergic nerve terminals.  相似文献

Summary An alternative approach to the regeneration of coenzymes using immobilized hydrogen dehydrogenase (hydrogenase) is described. Hydrogenase isolated from Alcaligenes Eutrophus was immobilized to porous glass particles and used in combination with alanine dehydrogenase for formation of alanine, while the NADH consumed was regenerated by molecular hydrogen. Different physical arrangements of the two enzymes were compared. Alanine was conveniently assayed with a specially designed enzyme thermistor method.  相似文献

The establishment of permanent T-lymphocyte cell lines by transformation with DNA viruses has not yet been achieved. This paper reports the successful transfer of polyoma virus genome into T-lymphocyte cells by somatic hybridization. A T-lymphocyte clone, HB1, derived from (DBA/ 2J×AKR) spleen cells, isolated in vitro by cloning in semi-solid agar, was fused with a polyoma (Py) virus-transformed fibroblast C3HPy, clone 1. The authenticity of the hybrid C3H/HB was established by chromosome and histocompatibility antigen studies. This initial population and the various clones retained T-lymphocyte characteristics such as morphological appearance, growth properties (suspension culture) and differentiation antigen (Thy 1–2). The hybrid cell line and the various clones presented all the characteristics of Py transformation. Namely, they carried the Py genome originating from the fibroblastic parent and maintained Py virus tumour-associated antigens (TSTA, TSSA and T antigens). In most respects, this hybrid population resembled the C3HPy/C11 parent and exhibited the same tumorigenicity.  相似文献

A lot of numerous rhynchonellid shells referedto the main species of genus SphenorhynchiaBuckman have been sampled in stratigraphically well-defined beds of Dogger period in the Mâconnais and in the Jura (France). Here, morphologic and anatomic characters and variability of S. plicatella, S. matisconensis, S. bugeysiaca, S. ferryi and S. dominula are studied.The main interest of this revision is to establish a complete diagnosis of the genus, not studied since its creation in 1918, with very limited knowledge of the internal structures. The settlement of this diagnosis is based on the type-species, S. plicatella, sometimes a little «unconventional form (beak, outline of the young shells, orientation of dental lamellae, delthyrial cavity), and also on the other species' characters. So, I expect that a later diagnosis will be avoided.Other advantages are observations on the taxonomic place of Sphenorhynchia in the RhynchonellidaeGray (in the TetrarhynchiinaeAger rather than in the CyclothyridinaeMakridin), on its evolution in the course of the Dogger period and the establishment of the biostratigraphy of its main species.  相似文献

The study of imprints of fossil plants collected in the Permian from the country of Hammanskraal (Namibia) leads to the following identifications: Glossopteris sp., Gangamopteris sp., Noegerrathiopsis sp., Gondwanidium sp., Asterotheca sp. and Lycopodiopsis derbyiB. Renault, Lycopodiopsis costilatus n. sp., Brasilodendron pedroanum(W. Carruthers) W.G. Chaloner & alii, Brasilodendron africanum n. sp. This flora has affinities with some fossil floras from South Africa and from Brazil, and is, probably, of upper Permian age.  相似文献

The study of imprints of Lycopsida from Permianof the Gondwana has permitted to specify the organisation of the leaf cushions and their variation in the genus LycopodiopsisB. Renault. The presence of a ligula is showed off. The invalidity of the genera Cyclodendron and Lycopodiophloios is demonstrated, and the species refered to these genera must be refered to the genus Lycopodiopsis for which an emended diagnosis is proposed.  相似文献
