The effects of estrus synchronization with prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) and Controlled Internal Drug Release Device (CIDR) on ensuing antral follicular development were documented and compared to natural estrous cycles of non-seasonal tropical goats. Two to six follicular waves were observed, with the three-follicular wave pattern being most frequently observed (58%), followed by four follicular waves (31.6%) per estrous cycle. There were no significant differences (p > 0.05) between the PGF2α- or CIDR-synchronized and natural estrous cycles nor between the synchronized and subsequent non-synchronized cycles in terms of the time of ovulation, the duration of inter-ovulatory intervals, daily numbers of antral follicles ≥3 mm in diameter, and the number of follicular waves per cycle in the goats of the present study. 相似文献
Chromosomal aberrations of chromosome 16 are uncommon and submicroscopic deletions have rarely been reported. At present, a cytogenetic or molecular abnormality can only be detected in 55% of Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome patients, leaving the diagnosis in 45% of patients to rest on clinical features only. Interestingly, this microdeletion of 16 p13.3 was found in a young child with an unexplained syndromic condition due to an indistinct etiological diagnosis. To the best of our knowledge, no evidence of a microdeletion of 16 p13.3 with contiguous gene deletion, comprising cyclic adenosine monophosphate-response element-binding protein and tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated protein 1 genes, has been described in typical Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome.
Case presentation
We present the case of a three-year-old Malaysian Chinese girl with a de novo microdeletion on the short arm of chromosome 16, identified by oligonucleotide array-based comparative genomic hybridization. Our patient showed mild to moderate global developmental delay, facial dysmorphism, bilateral broad thumbs and great toes, a moderate size atrial septal defect, hypotonia and feeding difficulties. A routine chromosome analysis on 20 metaphase cells showed a normal 46, XX karyotype. Further investigation by high resolution array-based comparative genomic hybridization revealed a 120 kb microdeletion on chromosomal band 16 p13.3.
Conclusion
A mutation or abnormality in the cyclic adenosine monophosphate-response element-binding protein has previously been determined as a cause of Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome. However, microdeletion of 16 p13.3 comprising cyclic adenosine monophosphate-response element-binding protein and tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated protein 1 genes is a rare scenario in the pathogenesis of Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome. Additionally, due to insufficient coverage of the human genome by conventional techniques, clinically significant genomic imbalances may be undetected in unexplained syndromic conditions of young children. This case report demonstrates the ability of array-based comparative genomic hybridization to offer a genome-wide analysis at high resolution and provide information directly linked to the physical and genetic maps of the human genome. Leachate from Pulau Burung landfill site was analyzed and treated using phytoremediation technique while water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) was used as the phytoremediator. Some parameters analyzed included ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), nitrate, nitrite, total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), phosphate, and zinc. The range of values of nutrients such as the pH, ammonia nitrogen, TKN, phosphate and zinc during leachate characterization were 8.72 and 8.58, 1810 and 1070 mg/L, 1183 and 1120 mg/L, 46.4 and 31.2 mg/L, 11.1 and 5.4 mg/L, respectively. After phytoremediation, significant reduction was noticed in all the nutrients and zinc. Nitrite, phosphate and zinc values were between 91.9% and 98.2%, 4.4 to 0.6 mg/L and 1.1 and 0.1 mg/L, respectively. Statistical analyses showed significant differences between the planted and unplanted systems (p ≤ .05). It was established that Eichhornia crassipes had the capacity to remove nutrients and heavy metals from leachate, which requires treatment to minimize pollutants to an acceptable level before discharging into water courses. 相似文献
Actinomycete strain AUM 00500 was 99.5 % similar to Streptomyces sanglieri NBRC 100784T and was evaluated for antagonistic activity towards Ganoderma boninense, the causative fungus of basal stem rot of oil palm. The strain showed strong antifungal activity towards G. boninense in in vitro and SEM analysis showed various modes of inhibition of the fungus. Ethyl acetate extracts of single culture and inhibition zone of cross-plug culture by HPLC indicated that strain AUM 00500 produced two different antibiotics of the glutarimide group namely cycloheximide and actiphenol. In greenhouse trials, oil palm seed treated with spores of S. sanglieri strain AUM 00500 at 109 cfu/ml showed significant (P < 0.05) increase in oil palm seedlings growth when compared to the control. Streptomyces sanglieri strain AUM 00500 successfully colonised the epidermal surface of the roots of treated oil palm seedlings and it was recovered from root fragments plated on starch casein agar. 相似文献
Chromatin interaction analysis with paired-end tag sequencing (ChIA-PET) is a new technology to study genome-wide long-range chromatin interactions bound by protein factors. Here we present ChIA-PET Tool, a software package for automatic processing of ChIA-PET sequence data, including linker filtering, mapping tags to reference genomes, identifying protein binding sites and chromatin interactions, and displaying the results on a graphical genome browser. The snow leopard (Panthera uncia) inhabits one of the most challenging environments on Earth, referred to as the ‘third pole’. Only a fraction of its vast range has been explored thus far, owing to myriad of barriers inflicted by the remote terrain and socio-ecological realities of the landscapes. Understanding distribution patterns of species is essential to devise practical management measures. This study aimed to understand the distribution pattern and factors influencing occupancy of snow leopard in the Pamir Mountain range through sign-based occupancy modelling. Our study confirmed that the Pamir range is a snow leopard stronghold, with occupancy estimated at 0.57 ± 0.02. The topographic features positively influenced the detection probability (p = 0.37 ± 0.005) of snow leopards. Occupancy was influenced by mean annual precipitation (β = -6.12 ± 1.8), density of roads (β = -1.61 ± 0.6) and water sources (β = 0.74 ± 0.4). Our findings underpin that sign-based distribution surveys provide vigorous scientific knowledge about elusive species and merit replication being used for other species. We propose to redefine the protected area boundaries based on ecological knowledge and encourage transboundary cooperation to safeguard snow leopards at a landscape scale. 相似文献
The fungal species Trichoderma is reported to have a significant impact on the growth and physiological performance of rice plants. However, the molecular mechanisms that induce these effects remain unspecified. Using next-generation sequencing technology, this study compared the differential expression of genes in rice seedlings that had been inoculated with Trichoderma asperellum SL2 with the gene expression in seedlings that had no such inoculation. The study showed that many genes related to plant growth enhancement and physiological functioning are differentially expressed in seedlings which have been symbiotically colonized by T. asperellum SL2. In these seedlings, specific genes related to photosynthesis, RNA activity, stomatal activity, and root development were found to be up-regulated as others were down-regulated. Although the exact causal mechanisms at the molecular level remain to be identified, the presence of Trichoderma versus its absence was associated with almost ten times more significant up-regulations than down-regulations for specific genes that have been identified from previous genomic mapping. Such analysis at the molecular level can help to explain observed phenotypic effects at the organismic level, and it begins to illuminate the observed beneficial relationships expressed phenotypically between crop plants and certain symbiotic microbes.

The ability of Gram-negative bacteria to degrade morpholine when growing in pure culture is reported for the first time. Several bacterial strains were able to degrade morpholine and to utilize it as a sole nitrogen source but not as a sole carbon and energy source. The organisms studied were obtained from river water and activated sludge and could not be isolated directly on morpholine-containing media which always yielded growth of Gram-positive bacteria using morpholine as a carbon and energy source. The Gram-negative strains were isolated on the basis of their ability to grow on the structurally-related heterocyclc amines piperidine and pyrrolidine. 相似文献
