The basic assumption of the analysis is that the stratigraphical change of relative abundance of the small mammal species is a phenomenon due to a certain number of environmental factors. In order to reveal these factors and to make some palaeoclimatic reconstructions the following approaches have been used: 1. Analysis of intrinsic structure of the initial data by using principal component analysis (PCA)—delimitation of recurrent groups of species and ordination of assemblages; 2. Extension backward in time of known ecological preference of taxa, forming a particular recurrent group; 3. Comparison of the results with the analysis of assemblages from “known”; (Holocene) environment. On the basis of ecological appearance of particular recurrent groups it is assumed that the main factors are temperatures and effective moisture. The reconstructed values for these environmental factors obtained on the basis of the Holocene recurrent groups of small mammals shows similarity to the recent climate in the area.  相似文献

A numerical model is developed that allows tracing the time evolution of a current sheet from a relatively thick current configuration with isotropic distributions of the pressure and temperature in an extremely thin current sheet, which plays a key role in geomagnetic processes. Such a configuration is observed in the Earth’s magnetotail in the stage preceding a large-scale geomagnetic disturbance (substorm). Thin current sheets are reservoirs of the free energy released during geomagnetic disturbances. The time evolution of the components of the pressure tensor caused by changes in the structure of the current sheet is investigated. It is shown that the pressure tensor in the current sheet evolves in two stages. In the first stage, a current sheet with a thickness of eight to ten proton Larmor radii forms. This stage is characterized by the plasma drift toward the current sheet and the Earth and can be described in terms of the Chu–Goldberger–Low approximation. In the second stage, an extremely thin current sheet with an anisotropic plasma pressure tensor forms, due to which the system is maintained in an equilibrium state. Estimates of the characteristic time of the system evolution agree with available experimental data.  相似文献

The spectrum contrast threshold for the comb-filtered signal was measured at various ripple densities in listeners with normal hearing. The lowest spectrum contrast thresholds of less than 0.1 appeared at a ripple density of 3–4 oct–1. With the ripple density falling down to 1 oct–1, the threshold increased to 0.17. At the ripple density higher than 4 oct–1, the threshold was also growing to achieve 1.0 at a density of 7–8 oct–1. An increase of threshold at high ripple densities can be explained by integration within critical bands. At low ripple densities, the threshold increase may be a result of the lateral suppression that led to sharpening of the spectral contrast.  相似文献

Yoka poxvirus was isolated almost four decades ago from a mosquito pool in the Central African Republic. Its classification as a poxvirus is based solely upon the morphology of virions visualized by electron microscopy. Here we describe sequencing of the Yoka poxvirus genome using a combination of Roche/454 and Illumina next-generation sequencing technologies. A single consensus contig of ~175 kb in length that encodes 186 predicted genes was generated. Multiple methods were used to show that Yoka poxvirus is most closely related to viruses in the Orthopoxvirus genus, but it is clearly distinct from previously described poxviruses. Collectively, the phylogenetic and genomic sequence analyses suggest that Yoka poxvirus is the prototype member of a new genus in the family Poxviridae.  相似文献

RGS4 and RGS10 expressed in Sf9 cells are palmitoylated at a conserved Cys residue (Cys(95) in RGS4, Cys(66) in RGS10) in the regulator of G protein signaling (RGS) domain that is also autopalmitoylated when the purified proteins are incubated with palmitoyl-CoA. RGS4 also autopalmitoylates at a previously identified cellular palmitoylation site, either Cys(2) or Cys(12). The C2A/C12A mutation essentially eliminates both autopalmitoylation and cellular [(3)H]palmitate labeling of Cys(95). Membrane-bound RGS4 is palmitoylated both at Cys(95) and Cys(2/12), but cytosolic RGS4 is not palmitoylated. RGS4 and RGS10 are GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs) for the G(i) and G(q) families of G proteins. Palmitoylation of Cys(95) on RGS4 or Cys(66) on RGS10 inhibits GAP activity 80-100% toward either Galpha(i) or Galpha(z) in a single-turnover, solution-based assay. In contrast, when GAP activity was assayed as acceleration of steady-state GTPase in receptor-G protein proteoliposomes, palmitoylation of RGS10 potentiated GAP activity >/=20-fold. Palmitoylation near the N terminus of C95V RGS4 did not alter GAP activity toward soluble Galpha(z) and increased G(z) GAP activity about 2-fold in the vesicle-based assay. Dual palmitoylation of wild-type RGS4 remained inhibitory. RGS protein palmitoylation is thus multi-site, complex in its control, and either inhibitory or stimulatory depending on the RGS protein and its sites of palmitoylation.  相似文献

Cannibalism is known to be a significant source of natural mortality of young North-east Arctic (NEA) cod. Cannibalism data, starting from 1984, have been used in NEA cod stock assessments since 1995, which has led to inconsistency in the cod abundance time series from 1946 to the present. To address this inconsistency, this study estimates the cannibalism-induced mortality (M2) of NEA cod at age 3–5 for the period 1946–1983. Combined qualitative and quantitative cod stomach content data for 1984–2010 were used to make the M2 estimations for age groups 3–5 (ICES 2014), then different factors including SSB were used to examine which covariates explained variability in M2 and thus make predictions for 1946–1983. The level of cannibalism was estimated to be high in the 1950s – early1960s. VPA-based assessment was run using these estimated M2 values. As a result, numbers of cod eaten by their conspecifics in the historical period and new increased recruitment estimates at age 3 were computed. The main factors affecting cannibalism appeared to be young cod abundance, total stock biomass (TSB) of large cod, and capelin total stock biomass (which represents an alternative prey). The problems involved in using the new recruitment time series in fishery management are discussed. The methodology presented here represents a generic approach to extending predation mortalities back in time to improve historical stock estimates.  相似文献

By in vitro translation of mRNA’s isolated from free and membrane-bound polysomes, direct evidence was obtained for the synthesis of two lysosomal hydrolases, β-glucuronidase of the rat preputial gland and cathespin D of mouse spleen, on polysomes bound to rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membranes. When the mRNA’s for these two proteins were translated in the presence of microsomal membranes, the in vitro synthesized polypeptides were cotranslationally glycosylated and transferred into the microsomal lumen. Polypeptides synthesized in the absence of microsomal membranes were approximately 2,000 daltons larger than the respective unglycosylated microsomal polypeptides found after short times of labeling in cultured rat liver cells treated with tunicamycin. This strongly suggests that nascent chains of the lysosomal enzymes bear transient amino terminal signals which determine synthesis on bound polysomes and are removed during the cotranslational insertion of the polypeptides into the ER membranes. In the line of cultured rat liver cells used for this work, newly synthesized lysosomal hydrolases showed a dual destination; approximately 60 percent of the microsomal polypeptides detected after short times of labeling were subsequently processed proteolytically to lower molecular weight forms characteristic of the mature enzymes. The remainder was secreted from the cells without further proteolytic processing. As previously observed by other investigations in cultured fibroblasts (A. Gonzalez-Noriega, J.H. Grubbs, V. Talkad, and W.S. Sly, 1980, J Cell Biol. 85: 839-852; A. Hasilik and E.F. Neufeld, 1980, J. Biol. Chem., 255:4937-4945.) the lysosomotropic amine chloroquine prevented the proteolytic maturation of newly synthesized hydrolases and enhanced their section. In addition, unglycosylated hydrolases synthesized in cells treated with tunicamycin were exclusively exported from the cells without undergoing proteolytic processing. These results support the notions that modified sugar residues serve as sorting out signals which address the hydrolases to their lysosomal destination and that final proteolytic cleavage of hydrolase precursors take place within lysosome itself. Structural differences in the carbohydrate chains of intracellular and secreted precursors of cathespin D were detected from their differential sensitivity to digestion with endoglycosidases H and D. These observations suggest that the hydrolases exported into the medium follow the normal secretory route and that some of their oligosaccharides are subject to modifications known to affect many secretory glycoproteins during their passage through the Golgi apparatus.  相似文献
