In the tropics of South China, climate change induced more rainfall events in the wet season in the last decades. Moreover, there will be more frequently spring drought in the future. However, knowledge on how litter decomposition rate would respond to these seasonal precipitation changes is still limited. In the present study, we conducted a precipitation manipulation experiment in a tropical forest. First, we applied a 60% rainfall exclusion in April and May to defer the onset of wet season and added the same amount of water in October and November to mimic a deferred wet season (DW); second, we increased as much as 25% mean annual precipitation into plots in July and August to simulate a wetter wet season (WW). Five single‐species litters, with their carbon to nitrogen ratio ranged from 27 to 49, and a mixed litter were used to explore how the precipitation change treatments would affect litter decomposition rate. The interaction between precipitation changes and litter species was not significant. The DW treatment marginally accelerated litter decomposition across six litter types. Detailed analysis showed that DW increased litter decomposition rate in the periods of January to March and October to December, when soil moisture was increased by the water addition in the dry season. In contrast, WW did not significantly affect litter decomposition rate, which was consistent with the unchanged soil moisture pattern. In conclusion, the study indicated that regardless of litter types or litter quality, the projected deferred wet season would increase litter decomposition rate, whereas the wetter wet season would not affect litter decomposition rate in the tropical forests. We investigated the participation of HDACs in VPA induced apoptosis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. VPA (20 mM) induced apoptosis in several HDAC mutants, including PRD3 and HDA1-disrupted cells and SIR2 over expressing cells, as well as in wild-type cells but not SIR2-disrupted cells. Intracellular reactive oxygen species and neutral lipid content increased markedly in all kinds of HDAC mutant cells tested except for SIR2-disrupted cells. Thus, these results suggest that 20 mM VPA induces neutral lipid accumulation and apoptosis-like features in S. cerevisiae, and that VPA-induced apoptosis was evaded by deletion of SIR2. 相似文献

N6-methyladenosine (m6A), as the most abundant RNA epigenetic modifications, has been shown to play critical roles in various biological functions. Research about enzymes that can catalyze and remove m6A have revealed its comprehensive roles in messenger RNA (mRNA) metabolism and other physiological processes. The “readers” including YTH domain-containing proteins, hnRNPC, hnRNPG, hnRNPA2B1, IGF2BP1, IGF2BP2, and IGF2BP3, which can affect the fates of mRNA in an m6A-dependent manner. In this review, we focus on recent advances in the research of the m6A modifications, especially about the latest functions of its writers, erasers, readers in RNA metabolism, cancer, and lipid metabolism. Chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) in obstructive sleep apnea causes damage of aortic endothelial cells, which predisposes the development of many cardiovascular diseases. Recently, both altered expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) and impaired autophagy were found to be associated with endothelial cell dysfunction in CIH. However, the exact molecular regulatory pathway has not been determined. Here, we address this question. In a mouse model of CIH, we detected significant upregulation of miR-30a, a miRNA that targets 3′-untranslated region of autophagy-associated protein 6 (Beclin-1) messenger RNA (mRNA) for suppressing the protein translation, which subsequently attenuated the endothelial cell autophagy against cell death. Indeed, unlike Beclin-1 mRNA, the Beclin-1 protein in endothelial cells did not increase after CIH. Suppression of miR-30a by expression of antisense of miR-30a significantly increased Beclin-1 levels to enhance endothelial cell autophagy in vitro and in vivo, which improved endothelial cell survival against CIH. Together, these data suggest that endothelial cell autophagy in CIH may be attenuated by miR-30a-mediated translational control of Beclin-1 as an important cause of endothelial cell dysfunction and damage. 相似文献
