Resting cells of the methanogen strain HU, a formate-utilizing methanogenic bacterium, was able to utilize formate or hydrogen as electron donor for the production of NADPH from NADP+ under suitable conditions. In the presence of 0.2% Triton X-100 and 0.3 m potassium phosphate, pH 9.0 at 30°C, the resting cells could convert ca. 60% of the exogenous NADP+ into NADPH yielding ca. 6 g NADPH/liter. New Amino Acids: O-Ethyl-, O-Propyl- and O-Butyl-Homoserine Formed from Alcohols by a Soil Bacterium
A bacterium, (El7), has been found to form new amino acid, when grown in well aerated medium containing ethanol, n-propanol or n-butanol as a sole source of carbon. The new compounds were isolated and purified and their structures were investigated by elementary analyses, infrared spectra, NMR analyses, mass spectra and determination of their degradation products. The amino acids formed from ethanol, n-propanol and n-butanol have now been shown to be O-ethyl-l-homoserine, O-propyl-l-homoserine and O-butyl-l-homoserine, respectively. 相似文献

Succinoglucan, a succinylated polysaccharide produced by Alcaligenes faecalis var. myxogenes 10C3, was partially hydrolyzed with acid. Fractionation of the neutral oligosaccharides gave cellobiose, gentiobiose, laminaribiose, laminaritriose, 6-O-β-laminaribiosylglucose, 6-O-β-laminaritriosylglucose, and 3-O-β-cellobiosylgalactose, confirming the previous results that the polysaccharide consists of β-(l→3)-linked, (1→4)-linked and (1 →6)-linked d-glucose residues, and β-(1→3)-linked d-galactose residues.Possible structural features of succinoglucan were discussed on the basis of the above and previous results obtained by Smith degradation. 相似文献

Seeds of grain amaranths contain a high amount (about 60% of total nitrogen) of albumin and globulin and a trace amount of prolamin. From salt-soluble extracts of A. hypochondriacus seeds, a globulin (440,000 in apparent molecular weight and ) was purified by Sepharose 6B gel and DEAE-cellulose column chromatographies. The protein comprised at least four kinds of subunits whose molecular weights were 36,000, 32,000, 20,000 and 18,000, respectively. The cDNA encoding a putative xylose reductase (xyrA) from Aspergillus oryzae was cloned and coexpressed in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae with A. oryzae xylitol dehydrogenase cDNA (xdhA). XyrA exhibited NADPH-dependent xylose reductase activity. The S. cerevisiae strain, overexpressing the xyrA, xdhA, endogenous XKS1, and TAL1 genes, grew on xylose as sole carbon source, and produced ethanol. 相似文献

Steroid hormones are responsible for the coordinated regulation of many aspects of biological processes in multicellular organisms. Since the last century, many studies have identified and characterized steroidogenic enzymes in vertebrates, including mammals. However, much less is known about invertebrate steroidogenic enzymes. In the last 15?years, a number of steroidogenic enzymes and their functions have been characterized in ecdysozoan animals, especially in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. In this review, we summarize the latest knowledge of enzymes crucial for synthesizing ecdysteroids, the principal insect steroid hormones. We also discuss the functional conservation and diversity of ecdysteroidogenic enzymes in other insects and even non-insect species, such as nematodes, vertebrates, and lower eukaryotes. 相似文献

Seven new O-methylated theaflavins (TFs) were synthesized by using O-methyltransferase from an edible mushroom. Using TFs and O-methylated TFs, metabolic stability in pooled human liver S9 fractions and inhibitory effect on H2O2-induced oxidative damage in human HepG2 cells were investigated. In O-methylation of theaflavin 3′-O-gallate (TF3′G), metabolic stability was potentiated by an increase in the number of introduced methyl groups. O-methylation of TF3,3′G did not affect metabolic stability, which was likely because of a remaining 3-O-galloyl group. The inhibitory effect on oxidative damage was assessed by measuring the viability of H2O2-damaged HepG2 cells treated with TFs and O-methylated TFs. TF3,3′G and O-methylated TFs increased cell viabilities significantly compared with DMSO, which was the compound vehicle (p?<?0.05), and improved to approximately 100%. Only TF3′G did not significantly increase cell viability. It was suggested that the inhibitory effect on H2O2-induced oxidative damage was potentiated by O-methylation or O-galloylation of TFs. 相似文献

Low protein content and sufficient grain rigidity are desired properties for the rice used in high-quality sake brewing such as Daiginjo-shu (polishing ratio of the rice, less than 50%). Two kinds of rice, sake rice (SR) and cooking rice (CR), have been used for sake brewing. Compared with those of SR, analyses of CR for high-quality sake brewing using highly polished rice have been limited. Here we described the original screening of late-maturing CR Sensyuraku (SEN) as rice with low protein content and characterization of its properties for high-quality sake brewing. The protein content of SEN was lower than those of SR Gohyakumangoku (GOM) and CR Yukinosei (YUK), and its grain rigidity was higher than that of GOM. The excellent properties of SEN with respect to both water-adsorption and enzyme digestibility were confirmed using a Rapid Visco Analyzer (RVA). Further, we confirmed a clear taste of sake produced from SEN by sensory evaluation. Thus, SEN has excellent properties, equivalent to those of SR, for high-quality sake brewing. 相似文献

All four stereoisomers of 10,14-dimethyloctadec-1-ene, a sex pheromone component of the apple leafminer (Lyonetia prunifoliella: Lepidoptera), were synthesized starting from (R)- and (S)-propylene oxide by applying stereospecific inversion of chiral secondary tosylates as a key step.
