Nitrobacter agilis Cytochrome c-550: Isolation, Physicochemical and Enzymatic Properties, and Primary Structure

Nitrobacter agilis cytochrome c-550 was purified to an electrophoreticallyhomogeneous state, and some of its properties were determined.The cytochrome showed an absorption peak at 410 nm in the oxidizedform, and peaks at 416, 521 and 550 nm in the reduced form.Its isoelectric point was 8.1 at 5?C. Analysis of the aminoacid composition showed that the cytochrome molecule was composedof 108 amino acid residues, 16 of which were lysine residues. The cytochrome reacted rapidly with N. agilis cytochrome c oxidaseand yeast cytochrome c peroxidase and more slowly with Pseudomonasaeruginosa nitrite reductase and bovine cytochrome c oxidase.The reactivities with these redox enzymes suggested that thecytochrome might be an evolutionary stage between bacterialand eukaryotic cytochromes c. The primary structure of the cytochrome from the N-terminusto the 85th residue was determined. Effects of Monensin and Veratridine on Acetylcholine Release and Cytosolic Free Ca2+ Levels in Cerebrocortical Synaptosomes of Rats

High-affinity specific receptors of endothelin (ET-1) were identified on primary cultures of mouse embryo striatal astrocytes by binding experiments performed with 125I-ET-1. Stimulation of production of inositol phosphates, a biphasic increase of the intracellular calcium concentration, and inhibition of cyclic AMP accumulation were observed in the same cells under ET-1 stimulation. Pretreatment of these cells with Bordetella pertussis toxin affected these effects to different extends, an observation suggesting that they are mediated by multiple transduction pathways, possibly involving several guanine nucleotide-binding proteins.     

Cerebro-costo-mandibular syndrome

Summary A 7-month-old boy with the cerebro-costomandibular syndrome is presented. This is the first case report in an Oriental population.15 reported cases in the literature are reviewed.     

The “happy puppet” syndrome in two siblings

Summary Disomic and trisomic cells of a patient with Down syndrome mosaic were used to study the effect of the additional chromosome 21 against an identical genetic background. The frequency of Ag staining and the participation in satellite associations were determined for each pair of acrocentric chromosomes. The additional chromosome 21 of the trisomic cells and its homologues proved to be regularly Ag positive. Therefore the trisomic cells showed more Ag positive chromosomes and more satellite associations per cell than the diploid cells. Thus, no compensation for the additional rRNA-gene dose could be found in the cells of the trisomic line.
