The transport properties and differential conductance of the heterostructures constructed by (5,5) single wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) and (5,5) single wall boron nitride nanotube (SWBNNT) are investigated using density functional theory in combination with non-equilibrium Green’s functions. We find that the transmission conductance of (5,5) BN/C nanotube heterostructure is not only continually depressed as the BNNT region increases but also the drop of the conductance is uniform in the energy window (?1.43 eV, 1 eV), which leads to linear I–V dependence for the systems when the bias is within this energy range. Moreover, the differential conductance linearly decreases when n?≤?3 but exponentially decreases when n?≥?3 for (5,5)(BN) n /C heterostructure. Such tunable differential conductance of (5,5) BN/C nanotube heterostructure mainly derives from the blockage of the transport channels induced by the semiconductive BN segment. Figure

1,5-Diazido-3-nitrazapentane (DANP) and 1,7-diazido-2,4,6-trinitrazaheptane (DATNH) are two energetic plasticizers. To better understand them, a detailed theoretical investigation was carried out using density functional theory and molecular mechanics methods. The crystal structures, spectra, thermodynamic properties, heats of formation, detonation velocity, detonation pressure, specific impulse and thermal stability were estimated. Possible initiation steps of pyrolysis were discussed by considering the bond breaking of N–NO2, C–N3, and N–N2 (via hydrogen transfer) for both compounds and the cyclization of the adjacent nitro and azido groups for DATNH. Results show that the rupture of N–NO2 and N–N2 (via hydrogen transfer) may happen simultaneously as the initial step of pyrolysis. Both crystals have P-1 symmetry as was observed experimentally. DANP has higher stability than DATNH, while DATNH has better detonation performance than DANP. In addition, DANP has a lower while DATNH has a higher specific impulse than RDX, which shows their prospects as propellant components. 相似文献

Cell-based high throughput proliferation and cytotoxicity assays are increasingly used in drug screening and bioprocess development. However, online monitoring of cell proliferation, pH, and dissolved oxygen (DO) has been a challenge in 3D cell-based assays. In this work, a 40-microwell bioreactor (40-MBR) system was developed from a 384-well plate for real-time, noninvasive monitoring of pH, DO, and cell proliferation in 3D microenvironments. Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) and MCF-07 breast cancer cells cultured in 40-MBR confirmed that the 40-MBR was capable of simultaneously monitoring DO and cell proliferation based on culture fluorescence and pH by measuring the absorbance of phenol red. Cytotoxicity studies of sodium butyrate on CHO cells demonstrated that 40-MBR with dynamic background fluorescence correction gave more reliable and highly reproducible growth kinetic data compared to conventional multiwells with static background correction. Furthermore, the dosage effects of two new anticancer drug candidates, 5,7-dihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-8-[(E)-2-phenylethenyl]-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran-4-one (DH-8P-DB) and 5,7-dihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-6-[(E)-2-phenylethenyl]-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran-4-one (DH-6P-DB), on HT-29 colon cancer cells were assessed using the 40-MBR, and the results indicated that DH-6P-DB would be a more potent drug in treating colon cancer than DH-8P-DB. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), also known as endotoxin, is the primary trigger of sepsis, which is associated with high mortality in patients. No therapeutic agents are currently efficacious enough to protect patients from sepsis characterized by LPS-mediated tissue damage and organ failure. Previously, a phosvitin-derived peptide, Pt5, which consists of the C-terminal 55 residues of zebrafish phosvitin, has been shown to function as an antibacterial agent. In this study, we have generated six mutants by site-directed mutagenesis based on the sequence of Pt5, and found that one of the six mutants, Pt5e, showed the strongest bactericidal activities against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. We then demonstrated that Pt5e was able to bind to LPS and lipoteichoic acid (LTA). More importantly, we showed that Pt5e significantly inhibited LPS-induced tumor-necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-1β release from murine RAW264.7 cells and considerably reduced serum TNF-α and IL-1β levels in mice. Additionally, Pt5e protected the liver from damage by LPS, and remarkably promoted the survival rate of the endotoxemia mice. Furthermore, Pt5e displayed no cytotoxicity to murine RAW264.7 macrophages and no hemolytic activity toward human red blood cells. These data together indicate that Pt5e is an endotoxin-neutralizing agent with a therapeutic potential in clinical treatment of LPS-induced sepsis. 相似文献

The recognition of pathogen effectors by plant immune receptors leads to the activation of immune responses that often include a hypersensitive response (HR): rapid and localized host cell death surrounding the site of attempted pathogen ingress. We have demonstrated previously that the recognition of the Verticillium dahliae effector protein Ave1 by the tomato immune receptor Ve1 triggers an HR in tomato and tobacco. Furthermore, we have demonstrated that tomato Ve1 provides Verticillium resistance in Arabidopsis upon Ave1 recognition. In this study, we investigated whether the co‐expression of Ve1 and Ave1 in Arabidopsis results in an HR, which could facilitate a forward genetics screen. Surprisingly, we found that the co‐expression of Ve1 and Ave1 does not induce an HR in Arabidopsis. These results suggest that an HR may occur as a consequence of Ve1/Ave1‐induced immune signalling in tomato and tobacco, but is not absolutely required for Verticillium resistance. 相似文献

The podocyte is a remarkable cell type, which encases the capillaries of the kidney glomerulus. Podocytes are of keen interests because of their key roles in kidney development and disease. Large-conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channels (BKCa channels) are important ion channels located in podocytes and play the essential role in regulating calcium homeostasis cell signaling. In this research, we studied the undergoing developmental changes of BKCa channels and their contribution to functional maturation of podocytes. Our results showed that the distribution of BKCa channels changed with the maturity of differentiation in a conditionally immortalized mouse podocyte cell line. Additionally, the increase of BKCa channel protein expression was detected by immunofluorescence staining with confocal microscopy in podocytes, which was consistent with the increase in the current density of BKCa channels examined by whole-cell patch-clamp technique. Our results suggested that the developmental changes of BKCa channels may help podocytes adapt to changes in pressure gradients occurring in physiological conditions. Those findings may have implications for understanding the physiology and development of kidney and will also serve as a baseline for future studies designed to investigate developmental changes of ion channel expression in podocytes. 相似文献
