Recent studies suggest that angiogenesis and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) are involved in the pathophysiology of epilepsy. However, relatively little data are available linking placenta growth factor (PIGF) with epilepsy. In this study, we assessed concentrations of PIGF in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of 60 epileptic patients and 24 non-seizure subjects using sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Epileptic patients in general had higher concentration of CSF-PIGF than controls (7.95 ± 0.88 ng/l vs. 5.87 ± 0.79 ng/l, P < 0.01). CSF-PIGF level in secondary epileptic patients (8.59 ± 1.26 ng/l) was higher than that in idiopathic epileptic patients (7.62 ± 0.20 ng/l) (P < 0.05). In idiopathic epilepsy, CSF-PIGF level in patients with high seizure frequency was higher than those in patients with low seizure frequency and seizure-free in recent 3 years (7.78 ± 0.23 ng/l vs. 7.49 ± 0.09 ng/l and 7.59 ± 0.10 ng/l, P < 0.05). Concentration of CSF-PIGF in patients with a disease duration of > 5 years was higher than those in patients with durations of 1-5 years and <1 year (7.72 ± 0.20 ng/l vs. 7.52 ± 0.09 ng/l and 7.41 ± 0.07 ng/l, P < 0.05). A xylanase gene, xynA4-2, was obtained from the genome sequence of thermoacidophilic Alicyclobacillus sp. A4 and expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3). xynA4-2 encodes a mature protein of 411 residues with a calculated molecular weight of 46.8 kDa. Based on the amino acid sequence
similarities (highest identity of 61%), the enzyme was confined into glycoside hydrolase family 10. The purified recombinant
XynA4-2 exhibited maximum activity at pH 6.2 and 55°C. The enzyme was stable over a broad pH range, retaining more than 90%
of the original activity at pH 5.8–12.0, 37°C for 1 h. The substrate specificity of XynA4-2 was relatively narrow, exhibiting
100, 93, and 35% of the relative activity towards birchwood xylan, oat spelt xylan, and wheat arabinoxylan, respectively.
Supplementation of XynA4-2 to mash caused the reduction of mash filtration rate (5.6%) and viscosity (4.0%). When combined
with the commercial glucanase from Sunson, higher reduction was detected in the filtration rate (12.0%) and viscosity (17.2%).

Synonymous codon usage bias (SCUB) is a common event that a non-uniform usage of codons often occurs in nearly all organisms. We previously found that SCUB is correlated with both intron number and exon position in the plant nuclear genome but not in the plastid genome; SCUB in both nuclear and plastid genome can mirror the evolutionary specialization. However, how about the rules in the mitochondrial genome has not been addressed. Here, we present an analysis of SCUB in the mitochondrial genome, based on 24 plant species ranging from algae to land plants. The frequencies of NNA and NNT (A- and T-ending codons) are higher than those of NNG and NNC, with the strongest preference in bryophytes and the weakest in land plants, suggesting an association between SCUB and plant evolution. The preference for NNA and NNT is more evident in genes harboring a greater number of introns in land plants, but the bias to NNA and NNT exhibits even among exons. The pattern of SCUB in the mitochondrial genome differs in some respects to that present in both the nuclear and plastid genomes. 相似文献

高粱泡(Rubus lambertionus Ser.)是一种有利用价值的野生果树资源。其优点为:(1)结果早,产量高,亩产量可达500kg以上;(2)适应性广,耐瘠薄,是开发利用低山丘陵的优良资源植物;(3)果实营养丰富,酸味纯正,尤其是所含红色素稳定性好,是加工果汁饮料的优质添加剂;(4)果实采收期在11月中旬到12月底,此时气温低,有利于浆果加工和贮藏,并可利用农闲季节的劳动力。上述特点表明,高粱泡有很好的开发利用前景。但本种在野生状态下蔓生性强,多刺,并具有枝顶生根的习性,因而树形紊乱而松散,栽培时搭架困难,植株占地面积大,而单位面积产量不易提高。为了便于操作管理和提高产量,减少栽培成本,增进经济效益,我们于1990~1991年进行了生长和株形调控试验, 相似文献

Brucella, which is regarded as an intracellular pathogen responsible for a zoonotic disease called brucellosis, survives and proliferates within several types of phagocytic and non-phagocytic cells. Brucella infects not only their preferred hosts but also other domestic and wild animal species, inducing abortion and infertility. Therefore, the interaction between uterine cells and Brucella is important for understanding the pathogenesis of this disease. In this study, we describe the Brucella suis vaccine strain S2 (B.suis.S2) infection and replication in the immortalized caprine endometrial epithelial cell line hTERT-EECs and the induced cellular and molecular response modulation in vitro. We found that B.suis S2 was able to infect and replicate to high titers and inhibit the proliferation of EECs and induce non-apoptotic pathways, as determined by B.suis.S2 detection using MTT and acridine orange/ethidium bromide (AO/EB) staining and flow cytometry. We explored the evidence of non-apoptotic pathways using real-time quantitative RT-PCR and by western blot analysis. Finally, we discovered the over-expression of GRP78, ATF4, ATF6, PERK, eIF2α, CHOP, and cytochrome c (Cyt-c) but not IRE1, xbp-1, and caspase-3 in B.suis.S2 (HK)-attacked and B.suis.S2-infected cells, suggesting that the molecular mechanism of ER stress sensor activation by B.suis.S2 is basically concomitant with that by B.suis.S2 (HK) and that ER stress, especially the PERK pathway, plays an important role in the process of B.suis.S2 infecting EEC, which may, in part, explain the role of the uterus in the pathogenesis of B.suis.S2.
