Some of the agricultural wastes have important economic potentials to be used as a plant nutrition and/or soil conditioner. Olive oil solid waste (OSW) is one of them. The aim of this study was to determine effects of OSW on soil pH, electrical conductivity (EC), improving soil nitrogen (N) status, soil aggregate stability and soil carbon contents. Different rates of OSW (control, 2%, 4% and 8%, w/w) were applied to coarse soils and incubated for 2 months. OSW applications decreased soil pH values. The mean EC value of soil measured 2 months after the incubation was greater than that of the first month. Application of OSW at the rate of 8% has significantly increased soil total organic nitrogen contents. OSW applications at the rate of 8% (w/w) significantly increased both mean SOC content (3.5%) and aggregate stability (88%) after 2 months of incubation (p<0.01). Therefore, OSW has great potential to improve soil structure of coarse textured soil in short term.  相似文献

The mechanism of antimalarial action of the ruthenium-chloroquine complex [RuCl(2)(CQ)](2) (1), previously shown by us to be active in vitro against CQ-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum and in vivo against P. berghei, has been investigated. The complex is rapidly hydrolyzed in aqueous solution to [RuCl(OH(2))(3)(CQ)](2)[Cl](2), which is probably the active species. This compound binds to hematin in solution and inhibits aggregation to beta-hematin at pH approximately 5 to a slightly lower extent than chloroquine diphosphate; more importantly, the heme aggregation inhibition activity of complex 1 is significantly higher than that of CQ when measured at the interface of n-octanol-aqueous acetate buffer mixtures under acidic conditions modeling the food vacuole of the parasite. Partition coefficient measurements confirmed that complex 1 is considerably more lipophilic than CQ in n-octanol-water mixtures at pH approximately 5. This suggests that the principal target of complex 1 is the heme aggregation process, which has recently been reported to be fast and spontaneous at or near water-lipid interfaces. The enhanced antimalarial activity of complex 1 is thus probably due to a higher effective concentration of the drug at or near the interface compared with that of CQ, which accumulates strongly in the aqueous regions of the vacuole under those conditions. Furthermore, the activity of complex 1 against CQ-resistant strains of P. falciparum is probably related to its greater lipophilicity, in line with previous reports indicating a lowered ability of the mutated transmembrane transporter PfCRT to promote the efflux of highly lipophilic drugs. The metal complex also interacts with DNA by intercalation, to a comparable extent and in a similar manner to uncomplexed CQ and therefore DNA binding does not appear to be an important part of the mechanism of antimalarial action in this case.  相似文献

Random amplified polymorphic DNA analysis was carried out in 35 autochthonous table grapevine cultivars grown in Coruh valley. Fifty-five oligonucleotide primers were screened on cultivars, and among them, 12 primers showed clear polymorphic patterns. PCR amplification with 12 primers generated a total of 157 polymorphic bands. There was genetic variation among the cultivars with values of genetic diversity ranging from 0.19 to 0.72 using the Jaccard coefficient. UPGMA analysis of the distance matrix resulted in a dendrogram with two main clusters. The first cluster included 28 cultivars and the second 7 cultivars. The greatest genetic similarity was observed between cultivars Gah and Kolik, while the greatest dissimilarity was observed between cultivars Gah and Siyah Kus Uzumu. The dendrogram revealed that the cultivars present in Coruh valley can be distinguished to a relatively high degree.  相似文献

The relationship between total soluble seminal root proteins induced at cold acclimation and freezing tolerance in tetraploid wild wheat Aegilops L. (Ae. biuncialis, Ae. cylindrica) and cultivated wheat Triticum turgitum L. (Firat-93, Harran-95) was investigated. Cold acclimation was performed at 0 °C for 7 days. Freezing tolerance was determined with survived roots after freezing treatments at −5 and/or −7 °C for 3, 6, 12 and 24 h. At −5°C, all tetraploid genotypes showed over 60% tolerance for 3 h. This effect was also present in wild wheat for 6 h, but was decreased in cultivated wheat to 30–35% tolerance for 6 h. Only Ae. biuncialis was able to show 52% tolerance just for 3 h freezing period at −7 °C. However, all the genotypes were not survived at −7 °C, for 6, 12 and 24 h. Cold acclimation induced greater amounts of new soluble seminal root proteins in tolerant Ae. biuncialis (29–104 kDa, pI 5.4–7.4) than in sensitive Harran-95 (29–66 kDa, pI 6.1–8.3). Synthesis and accumulation of these proteins may be related to degree of freezing tolerance of these genotypes.  相似文献

Treatment of invasive Candida krusei infections can be difficult due to its intrinsic fluconazole resistance and its reduced susceptibility to amphotericin B and flucytosine. Caspofungin (CAS) acts on a different cellular target, and its combination with voriconazole (VOR) or amphotericin B (AmB) appears promising. We evaluated the activity of CAS, VOR and AmB alone and in combination at 1/4, 1, 4xMIC concentrations by time–kill method against 30 C. krusei isolates. All isolates were susceptible to CAS and VOR; AmB MICs were 2 μg/ml for 50% of isolates by broth microdilution. CAS showed a fast killing activity at all concentrations; it was fungistatic at 1/4xMICs and fungicidal at 1-4xMICs in general. VOR displayed a concentration-independent fungistatic activity against all isolates. AmB exhibited a concentration-dependent activity; it was fungistatic at 1/4-1xMIC and fungicidal at 4xMIC. The most common interaction was indifference for both combinations. Frequency of synergic interaction for the VOR + CAS combination was 66.7% at 1/4xMIC after 48 h. The best results for CAS + AmB combination were obtained at 4xMIC in the first 4–8 h; synergic interaction was detected for 20 isolates (66.7%) at 4xMIC after 4 h. Consequently, VOR and CAS alone have been found effective, and high AmB MICs are remarkable against clinical C. krusei isolates in vitro. The combinations of CAS with VOR or AmB have exhibited promising results.  相似文献

Background: Denture retention and stability is of considerable interest in prosthetic dentistry. Materials and methods: Thirty‐five patients were examined: 15 edentulous patients treated with mandibular implant‐retained overdentures (MIRO) and maxillary dentures (MCD) (two implant‐ball attachment) (BC); 10 edentulous patients treated with MIRO and MCD (four implants‐bar attachments) (BRC); 10 patients with edentulous mandibular treated with MIRO and maxillary fixed partial dentures (MFPD) (two implant‐ball attachments) (BF). Before implant placement all patients received new dentures. After using these dentures for 3 months the maximum bite force and electrical activity of masseter muscle were measured. Two or four implants were then inserted into the intraforaminal region. After osseointegration periods, patients were treated with MIRO which duplicated their dentures and after three months the measurements were repeated. The data were collected and statistically analysed. Results: Muscle activity and chewing ability increased in the second period of measurements. Also chewing time was significantly decreased at the first measurements. The highest muscle activity was observed in the group of patients treated with group BF. Conclusion: The EMG values of the masseter muscle significantly increased when an implant attachments was used in the overdenture.  相似文献

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), a major polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) in the phospholipid fraction of the brain, is essential for normal cellular function. Neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease (PD) often exhibit significant declines in PUFAs. The aim of this study was to observe the effects of DHA supplementation in an experimental rat model of PD created with '1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine' (MPTP). Adult male Wistar rats were divided into four groups: (1) Control; (2) DHA-treated; (3) MPTP-induced; and (4) MPTP-induced + DHA-treated. Motor activity was investigated using the 'vertical pole' and 'vertical wire' tests. The dopaminergic lesion was determined by immunohistochemical analysis for tyrosine hydroxylase (TH)-immunopositive cells in substantia nigra (SN). Immunoreactivities of Bcl-2, Akt and phosphorylated-Akt (p-Akt) in SN were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. MPTP-induced animals exhibited decreased locomotor activity, motor coordination and loss of equilibrium. Diminished Parkinsonism symptoms and decreased dopaminergic neuron death were detected in the MPTP-induced + DHA-treated group compared to the MPTP-induced group. Moderate decreases in Akt staining were found in the MPTP-induced and MPTP-induced + DHA-treated groups compared to controls. p-Akt immunoreactivity decreased dramatically in the MPTP-induced group compared to the control; however, it was increased in the MPTP-induced + DHA-treated group compared to the MPTP-induced group. The staining intensity for Bcl-2 decreased prominently in the MPTP-induced group compared to the control, while it was stronger in the MPTP-induced + DHA-treated group compared to the MPTP-induced group. In conclusion, DHA significantly protects dopaminergic neurons against cell death in an experimental PD model. Akt/p-Akt and Bcl-2 pathways are related to this protective effect of DHA in experimental PD.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to evaluate melatonin effects on the callus induction and phenolic compound production of Ocimum basilicum L. (sweet basil). Calluses, derived from leaf explants, were grown on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 0, 100, or 200 μM melatonin, and subsequently extracted for determination of their phenolic contents. Melatonin decreased the callus induction in both concentrations. Based on the phytochemical analysis, the highest total phenolic acid contents (784.6 μg g−1 and 335.2 μg g−1, respectively) were recorded in calluses grown in 100 and 200 μM melatonin-supplemented medium, compared with the calluses induced with MS alone (192.0 μg g−1). Among the five phenolic acids confirmed in the callus samples, rosmarinic acid was the major constituent. The amount of rosmarinic acid increased significantly in callus grown on 100 μM melatonin medium by nearly 5-fold (754.2 μg g−1), compared with the control group callus. Major volatiles in basil calluses were represented by 3-methylbutanal, benzaldehyde, 1,8-cineole, 2-nonenal, eugenol, and methyl eugenol, and these were in the ranges of 4 to 14%, 24 to 50%, 2 to 3%, 0 to 0.55%, and 2 to 17% (in relative percentages), respectively. The qualitative and quantitative analyses of these substances found in calluses formed on melatonin-supplemented or melatonin-free medium were evaluated separately.

This study was conducted to identify how exposure to ambient noise that is over 75 dB affects the oxidant-antioxidant profile using hematological and biochemical indicators, and to investigate the effects of a strong and current antioxidant, α lipoic acid, on rats that were subjected to noise stress. For this purpose, five groups of eight rats were formed as follows: Control (K), Noise Exposure (GK), Lipoic Acid (LA), Noise Pollution + αLipoic Acid (GK + LA) and Oil (Y). The blood samples collected from rats were analyzed and MDA (malondialdehyde), GSH (glutathione), SOD (superoxide dismutase), CAT (catalase), NO (nitrit oxide), GPx (glutathione peroxidase), leukocytes, monocytes, lymphocytes, erythrocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit, glucose, cholesterol, total protein, triglycerides, HDL (high density lipoprotein), LDL (low density lipoprotein), and urea-N levels were measured. The physical factory environment in a textile factory was preferred to simulate the noise exposure. Ambient noise was measured to be 75 dB. Exposure to physical ambient noise was sustained for 30 days. MDA level was measured at the lowest level in the LA and GKLA groups while it was statistically significantly higher in other groups than it was in the control group. It was observed that GSH reached its lowest level in the group that was exposed to noisy environment, the 100 mg/kg/day αlipoic acid administered on the experimental model increased this level to that of the control group and this change was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Considering the urea levels, the increases in GK and GKLA groups and the decreases in LA and Y groups were observed to be statistically significant. When glucose levels were compared to the control group, they were found to be statistically significantly lower in all groups. As a result, it was observed that exposure to noise for 30 days was likely to lead to leukocyte-based immune deficiency and using α lipoic acid as an antioxidant might provide a significant protection against the noise stress.  相似文献

The genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships of 108 individual sheep from three Turkish sheep breeds (K?v?rc?k, Gökçeada, and Sak?z) were studied using RAPD analysis. Polymorphisms within and between populations were assayed using 15 random primers, and 82 loci were amplified ranging from 250 to 2,500 bp. The percentage of polymorphic loci was found to be 80.49, 78.05, and 73.17%, for K?v?rc?k, Gökçeada, and Sak?z sheep breeds, respectively. Total genetic diversity was 0.2265, and the average coefficient of genetic differentiation was 0.1181. Genetically, the Gökçeada breed was more closely related to the Sak?z breed than to the K?v?rc?k breed.  相似文献
