An abnormal terminal X-Y interchange accounts for most but not all cases of human XX maleness 总被引:14,自引:0,他引:14
To determine if human XX maleness results from an abnormal chromosomal X-Y interchange, we studied the inheritance of the paternal pseudoautosomal region in nine patients. Those six patients in whom Y-specific DNA was found (Y(+)) inherited the entire pseudoautosomal region from the paternal Y chromosome and lost that of the paternal X chromosome. Moreover, in three Y(+) cases, we observed the deletion of a paternal Xp locus tightly linked to the pseudoautosomal region. These results definitively show that an abnormal and terminal X-Y interchange during paternal meiosis causes Y(+)XX maleness. In contrast, no abnormal X-Y interchange was observed in any of the three Y(-) cases analyzed, suggesting that maleness can occur in the absence of any Y-specific DNA. 相似文献

The possibility that acoustic startle stimuli could support a conditional response (freezing) to contextual stimuli was investigated. Rats were exposed to three acoustic startle stimuli on the first day, and one on the second day. On day 1, 20 rats received naloxone pretreatment and another 20 received saline (placebo) pretreatment. Half of each group received a high-intensity acoustic stimulus, the other half a low-intensity acoustic stimulus. Both the higher stimulus intensity and the naloxone pretreatment led to greater freezing behavior during the 3-minute test period before the single startle stimulus on day 2. These findings support the notion that increased actual or perceived intensity of the acoustic startle stimulus increases conditioning to contextual stimuli as indexed by freezing behavior. 相似文献

This communication is based on the pioneering studies performed by I. P. Pavlov's associates, Yu. P. Frolov (in 1918) and I. S. Rozental' (in 1918/1919) at the Institute of Experimental Medicine, in Petrograd. The changes in the "independent variable"--the dogs' diet--were not planned but were the consequences of severe shortages of food for man and beast. The principal generalization concerns the order in which different forms of "complex nervous activity" were impaired: the order is opposite to the order in which they emerge in the process of ontogenesis. First to suffer was "internal inhibition," as documented by the failure of stimulus differentiation. This was followed by the decrease in the magnitude of well-established conditional responses (CRs). As a result of a more severe impairment of the excitatory processes, it became difficult or impossible to establish new CRs. In time, previously established CRs to artificial stimuli, visual and acoustic, disappeared totally. The CRs to natural conditional stimuli (CSs) were maintained fairly well but, eventually, they too decreased markedly. Alcaligenes denitrificans NTB-1, previously isolated on 4-chlorobenzoate, also utilized 4-bromo-, 4-iodo-, and 2,4-dichlorobenzoate but not 4-fluorobenzoate as a sole carbon and energy source. During growth, stoichiometric amounts of halide were released. Experiments with whole cells and cell extracts revealed that 4-bromo- and 4-iodobenzoate were metabolized like 4-chlorobenzoate, involving an initial hydrolytic dehalogenation yielding 4-hydroxybenzoate, which in turn was hydroxylated to 3,4-dihydroxybenzoate. The initial step in the metabolism of 2,4-dichlorobenzoate was catalyzed by a novel type of reaction for aerobic organisms, involving inducible reductive dechlorination to 4-chlorobenzoate. Under conditions of low and controlled oxygen concentrations, A. denitrificans NTB-1 converted all 4-halobenzoates and 2,4-dichlorobenzoate almost quantitatively to 4-hydroxybenzoate. 相似文献

Summary Bacterial insecticide production using a strain ofBacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki was studied in batch culture considering the influence of increasing concentration of components of a glucose — yeast extract — mineral salts medium.It was found that spore counts were increased from 1.08×1012 spores. 1–1 to 7.36×1012 spores. 1–1 and toxin level from 1.05 mg.ml–1 to 6.85 mg.ml–1, when the concentration of glucose was increased from 8 to 56 (g 1–1), with the corresponding increase in the rest of medium components. Higher concentration of nutrients inhibit either spore count or toxin production.Preliminary experiments of fed-batch cultures which allows the use of high amounts of nutrients were also carried out. Photosynthetically active vesicles prepared from Chlamydomonas reinhardtii retained a light-dependent glutamate synthase activity which was highly specific for 2-oxoglutarate (Km=2.1 mM) and L-glutamine (Km=0.9 mM) as amido group acceptor and donor respectively. This activity was inhibited by azaserine, p-hydroxymercuribenzoate and 3-(p-chlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethyl urea.Light-dependent synthesis of glutamate was also obtained by coupling Chlamydomonas photosynthetic particles to purified ferredoxin-glutamate synthase, using ascorbate and 2,6-dichlorophenol-indophenol as electron donor. This system was also specific for 2-oxoglutarate (Km=1 mM) and L-glutamine (Km=0.8 mM) as substrates, and was stimulated by dithioerythritol. Azaserine and p-hydroxymercuribenzoate, but not 3-(p-chlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethyl urea, inhibited the reconstituted activity; high concentrations of 2-oxoglutarate were inhibitory.Abbreviations A

Experimental results are presented for the verification of the first adsorption step of the ‘adsorbed template’ biogeochemical cycle, a simple model for a primitive prebiotic replication system. The adsorption of Poly-C, Poly-U, Poly-A, Poly-G, and 5′-AMP, 5′-GMP, 5′-CMP and 5′-UMP onto gypsum was studied. It was found that under the conditions of the experiment, the polymers have a very high affinity for the mineral surface, while the monomers adsorb much less efficiently. 相似文献
