The benefit of intravenous abciximab as an adjunctive to percutaneous coronary intervention has been demonstrated in large-scale randomized studies. The role of intravenous abciximab is being defined in carotid angioplasty and stent placement as the procedure is gaining popularity for the treatment of high-grade carotid stenosis in patients considered high-risk for carotid endarterectomy. This study was carried out to determine the relationships between oxidant/antioxidant status, in vitro LDL oxidizability and LDL-fatty acid composition in diabetes mellitus. Plasma total antioxidant capacity (oxygen radical absorbance capacity, ORAC) and LDL-cholesteryl ester fatty acids were investigated in type 1 and type 2 diabetic subjects with and without complications. The degree of LDL oxidation was determined by the measurement of hydroperoxide levels before and after in vitro peroxidative stress with CuSO4. ORAC values were decreased in diabetic subjects who showed high basal hydroperoxide levels. Oxidizability of LDL in these subjects was higher than in control subjects and it was unrelated to LDL-fatty acid composition. However, in type 2 diabetic subjects with complications, alterations in LDL-fatty acid composition were associated with their enhanced oxidative susceptibility. LDL-fatty acid alterations might be an additional factor that influences LDL oxidizability especially in type 2 diabetes. In conclusion, diabetes mellitus is associated with enhanced oxidative stress and defective antioxidant/oxidant balance regardless the type of diabetes and presence of complications. 相似文献

Fifty-eight rhizobial strains were isolated from root nodules of Vicia faba cv. Equina and Vicia faba cv. Minor by the host-trapping method in soils collected from eleven sites in Bejaia, Eastern Algeria. Eleven genotypic groups were distinguished based on the combined PCR/RFLP of 16S rRNA, 16S–23S rRNA intergenic spacer and symbiotic (nodC and nodD-F) genes and further confirmed by multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA) of three housekeeping genes (recA, atpD and rpoB), the 16S rRNA gene and the nodulation genes nodC and nodD. Of the 11 genotypes, 5 were dominant and 2 were the most represented. Most of the strains shared high nodD gene sequence similarity with Rhizobium leguminosarum sv. viciae; their nodC sequences were similar to both Rhizobium leguminosarum and Rhizobium laguerreae. Sequence analyses of the 16S–23S rRNA intergenic spacer showed that all the new strains were phylogenetically related to those described from Vicia sativa and V. faba in several African, European, American and Asian countries, with which they form a group related to Rhizobium leguminosarum. Phylogenetic analysis based on MLSA of 16S rRNA, recA, atpD and rpoB genes allowed the affiliations of strain AM11R to Rhizobium leguminosarum sv. viciae and of strains EB1 and ES8 to Rhizobium laguerreae. Aim of the Study
In many countries, Low Level Disinfection (LLD) of covered transvaginal ultrasound probes is recommended between patients'' examinations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of LLD under routine conditions on a range of microorganisms.Materials and Methods
Samples were taken over a six month period in a private French Radiology Center. 300 specimens derived from endovaginal ultrasound probes were analyzed after disinfection of the probe with wipes impregnated with a quaternary ammonium compound and chlorhexidine. Human papillomavirus (HPV) was sought in the first set of s100 samples, Chlamydia trachomatis and mycoplasmas were searched in the second set of 100 samples, bacteria and fungi in the third 100 set samples. HPV, C. trachomatis and mycoplasmas were detected by PCR amplification. PCR positive samples were subjected to a nuclease treatment before an additional PCR assay to assess the likely viable microorganisms. Bacteria and fungi were investigated by conventional methods.Results
A substantial persistence of microorganisms was observed on the disinfected probes: HPV DNA was found on 13% of the samples and 7% in nuclease-resistant form. C. trachomatis DNA was detected on 20% of the probes by primary PCR but only 2% after nuclease treatment, while mycoplasma DNA was amplified in 8% and 4%, respectively. Commensal and/or environmental bacterial flora was present on 86% of the probes, occasionally in mixed culture, and at various levels (10->3000 CFU/probe); Staphylococcus aureus was cultured from 4% of the probes (10-560 CFU/probe). No fungi were isolated.Conclusion
Our findings raise concerns about the efficacy of impregnated towels as a sole mean for disinfection of ultrasound probes. Although the ultrasound probes are used with disposable covers, our results highlight the potential risk of cross contamination between patients during ultrasound examination and emphasize the need for reviewing the disinfection procedure. 相似文献85.

The objective of this study was to assess pesticide residues in tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, strawberries, and potatoes collected from local markets in Ismailia, Egypt, and to assess dietary intake and health risk implications of pesticide residues through food consumption. Vegetable selection was based on their popularity and consumption. Selection of pesticides was based on their impact on humans, and on their heavy use. The majority of the analyzed samples contained detectable levels of pesticides. Residues of some organophosphorus pesticides, including malathion, ethion, and profenofos and some pyrethroid pesticides such as fenpropathrin and cypermethrin were found in some samples at concentration equal to or exceeding their European Union's maximum residue limits (EU-MRLs). The fungicide bupirimate detected in potato samples exceeded the EU-MRL by 1500%. Phentohate and profenofos were the most frequently detected pesticides in 30 and 27% of analyzed samples, respectively. Data were used to estimate the potential health risks associated with exposure to these pesticides by ingestion of food. Estimated daily intakes (EDIs) of pesticides ranged from 0.03% to 40% of the acceptable daily intakes (ADIs), depending on pesticide concentration and vegetable consumption. Overall, the EDIs of the different pesticides from vegetable consumption are not considered a public health problem. 相似文献

Process intensification has been widely used for many years in the mammalian biomanufacturing industry to increase productivity, agility and flexibility while reducing production costs. The most commonly used intensified processes are operated using a perfusion or fed-batch seed bioreactor enabling a higher than usual seeding density in the fed-batch production bioreactor. Hence, as part of the growth phase is shifted to the seed bioreactor, there is a lower split ratio, which increases the criticality of the seed bioreactor and could impact production performance. Therefore, such intensified processes should be designed and characterized for robust process scale-up. This research work is focused on intensified processes with high seeding density inoculated from seed bioreactor in fed-batch mode. The impact of the feeding strategy and specific power input (P/V) in the seed bioreactor and on the production step with two different cell lines (CL1 and CL2) producing two different monoclonal antibodies was investigated. Cell culture performance in the production bioreactor has been improved due to more stressful conditions for the cells in the seed bioreactor and the impact of the production bioreactor P/V on the production performance was limited. This is the first reported study highlighting a positive impact of cellular stress in seed bioreactors on intensified production bioreactor with the introduction of the “organized stress” concept. 相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the cymoxanil-mancozeb (CM) toxicity and investigate the ameliorative effect of resveratrol (Res) against cymoxanil-mancozeb toxicity. Forty rats were divided into four groups; the first group was used as a control group, the second group was exposed to Res only at a dose of 20 mg/kg body weight for 4 weeks, and the third group was administered CM only at a dose of 799 mg/kg body weight for 4 weeks, The fourth group was co-treated with Res+CM for 4 weeks. Blood samples were analyzed for hematological and biochemical parameters. The comet assay was done on liver and blood specimens and histopathological examinations of the liver and intestine. The results demonstrated that CM exposure caused a significant increase in WBCs, lymphocytes, granulocytes, monocytes ALT, AST, ALP, and GGT, and total cholesterol and triglycerides levels accompanied by a decrease in HGB, HCT, RBCs and MCV, MCH, MCHC, HDL and glucose levels with no significant DNA damage in liver and blood. CM mixture induced severe pathological changes in small intestine and liver. Co-treatment of Res with CM improved hematological picture, lipid and glucose profiles also liver enzymes and decreased changes in the architecture of the liver and intestine. 相似文献

The innervation of the posterior ligamentous structures of the human lumbar spine was studied by light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Three types of nerve endings were recognized: free nerve endings, Paciniform corpuscles and Ruffini corpuscles. The free nerve endings, which are thought to act as nociceptors, were found in the superficial layers of all ligaments. A few free nerve endings were also identified within the supraspinous and interspinous ligaments. The Paciniform corpuscles were predominantly found in the supraspinous ligament. The Ruffini corpuscles were located in the interspinous and flaval ligaments. These findings suggest that the posterior ligamentous structures could be involved in the spinal control system. 相似文献

We present the nucleotide sequence of a new Alu family member that lies between the delta- and beta-globin genes in gorilla DNA. The sequence exhibits 91% similarity with a consensus sequence of the Alu family. It is flanked by a perfect repetition of a 16-nucleotide target sequence and terminates with 24 adenylic residues. As this sequence is absent at this locus in other primate DNAs, its insertion occurred less than 8 million years ago, thus supporting the idea that Alu sequences are still mobile elements in the hominoid genome. 相似文献
