Field experiments were conducted in southwestern China to estimate the distances over which cercariae of Schistosoma japonicum are transported and remain infective in village irrigation ditches and to determine the feasibility of interrupting this transport using niclosamide, the molluscicide commonly used for snail control in this environment. The number of worms recovered from bioassay mice downstream from experimentally introduced cercariae, but without niclosamide, decreased about 90% over the first 100 m of ditch and then remained essentially constant for the remaining 300 m of the ditch that was monitored. The niclosamide experiments resulted first in the finding that it was possible to achieve ditch average concentrations close to the target values of 0.25 ppm, but that concentrations at any particular location varied by a factor of up to 3. There was no correlation between water turbidity and niclosamide concentration. An average water concentration of 0.29 ppm resulted in no viable cercariae after a contact time of about 1 min and a travel distance of only 10 m. We regard these results as proof of the feasibility of chemical interruption of transport of S. japonicum cercariae although the toxicity of niclosamide to fish at the levels used here make it a questionable candidate for routine use.  相似文献

Flower- or cake-shaped particles with uniform particle size ranging from nanometers to micrometers were prepared from the stereo multiblock copoly(rac-lactide)s (smb-PLAs) by precipitating the polymer from its solution in methylene chloride/ethanol via three different methods: slowly lowering the solution temperature, slowly evaporating the solvent, and slowly adding a nonsolvent. Under the same condition, sheet-shaped crystals in 10 mum size but not particles were obtained from the pure PLLA with almost the same molecular weight. Electron diffraction and WAXD data demonstrated that the stereocomplex particles belonged to the monoclinic system. All three methods resulted in particles with identical morphology and almost the same particle size. At a given stereoregularity of 88%, as the molecular weight of the polymer increased from 8700 to 23,200 Da, the crystallinity decreased, the particle morphology changed from flower-shaped to cake-shaped, and the diameter and height of the particles increased from 0.8 and 0.45 to 3.6 microm and 2.0 microm, respectively. The initial concentration of the polymer solution influenced the particle size slightly but affected the morphology markedly. On the basis of the above experimental observations, it was proposed that the smb-PLA particles of flower- or cake-shape were formed in four steps: (1) complexation in solution of the smb-PLA chains; (2) particle nucleation; (3) particle growth in the width direction; and (4) particle growth in the height direction. The curvature of the paired smb-PLA chains and the inner stress governed the particle size, and the interconnection between the neighboring particles determined the layered structure and the package density of the particles formed.  相似文献

Two new, bioactive, pregnane-based natural products, pachysanonin (= 3beta,11alpha,12beta)-12-acetoxy-3-(dimethylamino)-11-[(3,4-dimethylpent-3-enoyl)oxy]pregnan-20-one; 1) and pachysanone (= (11alpha,12beta)-12-acetoxy-11-[(3,4-dimethylpent-3-enoyl)oxy]pregnan-3,20-dion; 2) have been isolated from Pachysandra axillaris. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods, and, in the case of 2, by single-crystal X-ray crystallography (Figure). Compound 2 showed significant antitumor activity against Lewis lung carcinoma (LCC) tumor cells, with an IC50 value of 0.020+/-0.006 microg/ml, which is equal or even lower than those of the well-known natural antitumor agents harringtonine (0.02), homoharringtonine (0.15), and adriamycin (0.06 microg/ml; positive control).  相似文献

The taeniid cestode Echinococcus shiquicus n. sp. was found from the Tibetan fox Vulpes ferrilata and the plateau pika Ochotona curzoniae in the Qinghai-Tibet plateau region of China. In the adult stage, E. shiquicus from the foxes is morphologically similar to Echinococcus multilocularis. However, the new species is differentiated by its smaller rostellar hooks, fewer segments, distinct position of genital pore in the mature segment and fewer eggs in the gravid segment. Hydatid cysts of E. shiquicus found in the livers from the pikas were essentially unilocular but an oligovesicular cyst was also found. The data of mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequences proved E. shiquicus to be a valid taxon.  相似文献

The developmental, survivorship and reproductive biology of Eretmocerus sp. nr furuhashii Rose & Zolnerowich parasitizing Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) biotype B on tomato, cucumber, eggplant and collard at 26+/-0.5 degrees C was studied. The mean longevity ranged from 6.5 days on tomato to 8.1 days on collard. The mean lifetime fecundities on tomato, cucumber, eggplant and collard were 35.4, 37.3, 41.4 and 46.4 eggs, whereas the mean lifetime fertility was 20.2, 22.7, 28.3 and 33.6 offspring, respectively. Developmental time was longest on cucumber (17.1 days) and shortest on collard (15.9 days). Survival rates varied significantly across host plants. Sex ratio (female symbol:male symbol) varied from 1.71 to 1.93 across the four hosts. The intrinsic rate of increase (rm) was highest (0.157) on collard and lowest on tomato (0.133). Mean generation time (R0) ranged from 14.7 to 20.9 days. All the data demonstrated that the reproductive success and overall performance of E. sp. nr furuhashii increased as the density of leaf hairs declined. As leaf hairs play a key role in determining efficacy, it is unlikely that effective biological control of B. tabaci using E. sp. nr furuhashii will be achieved on non-glabrous crop varieties.  相似文献
