We report a case of a 85-year old woman with a preexisting Transcatheter Pacing System (TPS) (Micra? VR, Fa. Medtronic, Inc., Minneapolis, MN, USA) undergoing several external electrical cardioversions (CV) for symptomatic persistent atrial fibrillation (persAF). Due to bradycardia in the setting of atrial fibrillation a right apical TPS implantation was performed earlier. Four weeks prior to presentation at our facility an unsuccessful CV with a maximum biphasic energy level of 360J was performed, after which amiodarone was initiated. At the time of presentation three shocks with 100?J, 200?J and 360?J were delivered without sustained restoration of a stable sinus rhythm. Patches were in an anterior-posterior position. No complications and no significant changes in device parameters in comparison to the pre-acquired values were observed.To our knowledge, this is the first case report of an external CV in a patient with a TPS. External CV in patients with a preexisting TPS seems to be safe and feasible.  相似文献

Myeloperoxidase is a lysosomal enzyme of polymorphonuclear leucocytes that contributes to inflamatory responses. In previous studies it was shown that MPO was synthesized in atherosclerotic lesions responsible of lipoprotein oxidations. We aimed to determine the MPO −463 G/A gene polymorphism distribution in Turkish population and evaluate the effects of it on myeloperoxidase levels. There were 100 myocardial infarct patients and 100 healthy control subjects in our study. MPO polymorphism was studied by using PCR-RFLP technique and MPO levels were measured by ELISA. It was shown that MPO levels were increasing in patients after myocardial infarct event but there were no effect of MPO −463 G/A polymorphism on MPO levels. It was also found that serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels and smoking was contributing factors in increments of MPO enzymes. We observed that MPO levels were increased in CAD but there were no effect of MPO −463 G/A polymorphism on MPO levels.  相似文献

Colostrum, the sole diet for newborns, is an emerging nutraceutical. To date, the chemopreventive effect of Bovine Colostrum against liver injury induced by the potent carcinogen, 7,12-dimethyl-Benz[a]anthracene (DMBA) is unexplored. Humans are daily exposed to DMBA which is a highly lipophilic environmental organic pollutant. The study aimed to investigate the hepatoprotective role of Bovine Colostrum against DMBA-induced hepatotoxicity using a rat model. Fifty male rats were divided into five groups; GI (control), GII (olive oil, vehicle for DMBA), GIII (DMBA), GIV (DMBA + Bovine Colostrum), GV (Bovine Colostrum). After 12 weeks, body weight changes and mortality were calculated. Histological and ultrastructural examinations of liver tissue were performed. Expressions of p53, TGFβ2, TNF-α, S6K2, and c20orf20 were assessed by RT-PCR. Post-treatment with Bovine Colostrum increased both the body weight and the survival rate of rats treated with DMBA. In addition, remarkable protection against the pathological effect of DMBA was noted. Ultrastructurally, Bovine Colostrum ameliorated/prevented most of the toxic effects of DMBA on hepatocytes, including irregularities of nuclear envelope, clumping, and margination of heterochromatin aggregates, segregated nucleoli, and mitochondrial pleomorphism. Bovine Colostrum administration down-regulated p53, C20orf20, and S6K2 mRNA levels, and up-regulated TNF-α and TGFβ2. In conclusion, Bovine Colostrum have a protective effect against DMBA-induced toxicity on the liver of albino rats. Consequently, Bovine Colostrum may prevent polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons-induced hepatotoxicity and may be useful in promoting human health if supplemented in the diet.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Experiments were carried out with various salts and their combinations to ascertain the impact of these salts on seedling traits of fodder species and to identify tolerant species. Length-based traits showed a repressed effect, whereas weight-based traits were increased under salt stress. Furthermore, accumulation of Na+, Ca2+, and Cl? ions and metals (Cu2+, Fe2+, and Al3+) increased in various organs of seedlings due to various salt treatments. Contrastingly, K+, K+/Na+, and Ca2+/Cl? decreased, showing priority for specific salts. Seedling traits, such as shoot length sensitivity and shoot biomass, provide an effective mean of selection for tolerant or susceptible genotypes. Diverse types of tolerance mechanisms were present in cultivars to detoxify the effect of ions and metals. Cultivars that showed low susceptibility index, high shoot biomass, and high metal concentration were salt includers and could be utilized for bioremediation of the affected areas, whereas tolerant cultivars that showed low susceptibility index, metals concentration, and comparable shoot biomass to that of the control were salt excluders and could be utilized for fodder purposes.  相似文献

In the Frasier syndrome there is an association between XY gonadal dysgenesis and chronic renal failure. Owing to an observed sex reversal, the Y chromosomes of two girls with this syndrome have been analyzed. Using molecular-biology techniques, no major alterations of the known sex-determining area of the Y chromosome were found. Furthermore, the sequence did not reveal impairment of the recently described testis-determining factor SRY. These data suggest that in the Frasier syndrome, XY sex reversal and renal failure could be the result of either faulty gene(s) located downstream in the sex differentiation pathway during embryogenesis, or impaired SRY regulation. Preliminary results on the Wilms' tumor suppressor gene WT1, a candidate for acting downstream to SRY, are also provided.  相似文献
