Primary structure of PDC-109, a major protein constituent of bovine seminal plasma

The two major protein components of bovine seminal plasma, PDC-109 and BSP I, have been purified by gel filtration, partition chromatography and reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography from an 86% ethanol precipitate of bovine seminal plasma ejaculate. The complete 109-residue amino acid sequence of PDC-109 has been established by automated Edman degradation of the intact peptide as well as its proteolytic digestion and cyanogen bromide cleavage fragments. The 12,774 dalton structure has two structurally similar domains of 38 and 41 amino acids, each containing two disulfide bonds.     

Volatile components of developing tomato fruit grown under field and greenhouse conditions

Volatile components of field- and glass greenhouse-grown tomatoes(Lycopersicon esculentum MILL., variety, V. R. Moscow) of differentmaturities were studied by gas-liquid and thin-layer chromatography.The following components were separated and identified: isobutylalcohol, isopentyl alcohol, hexyl alcohol, 2-methyl-3-hexanol,isovaleraldehyde, caproaldehyde, benzaldehyde, furfural, isopentylacetate, isopentyl butyrate, isopentyl isovalerate, butyl hexanoate,hexyl hexanoate, methyl salicylate and -pinene. Chromatogramswere consistent for both field- and greenhouse-grown tomatoesat all stages of maturity. Except for isovaleraldehyde and hexylalcohol, the biosynthesis of volatile components increased alongwith the growth of fruit. Isovaleraldehyde and hexyl alcohol,presumed to give the "green leafy" aroma of tomatoes, were foundto be in their highest concentrations at the breaker and thelarge-green stages, respectively. ¹This research was supported by a research grant—UI 00449—fromthe National Center for Urban and Industrial Health, U. A Service for Human Chromosome Studies in Saskatchewan

A service has been developed in Saskatchewan to make available the results of studies of human chromosomes, the material being forwarded to the laboratory by local transport facilities. During the first year of this project chromosome studies were requested for five doubtful cases of trisomy-21 (two were found to be normal) and for 20 definite cases of trisomy-21 in young patients (two had translocations but the parents of both these children had normal karyotypes). Eleven confirmed cases of Turner''s syndrome, two of Klinefelter''s syndrome, and one each of the D and E syndromes were also studied. The largest group for which studies were requested comprised 36 patients with mental retardation; only two abnormal karyotypes were encountered in this group.     

三化螟有效积温的研究——Ⅰ.各虫态期的发育零点和其有效积温

1.三化螟卵、幼虫和蛹的发育起点和发育零点都系实测结果。卵的孵化零点为16℃,胚胎发育零点为15℃,幼虫发育零点为12℃,幼虫的化蛹零点和蛹的羽化零点都为15℃。 2.三化螟各虫态的有效积温,卵平均为81.1日度,幼虫为507.2日度,蛹为103.7日度,共计为692.0日度。卵和蛹的有效积温随着温度的上升而增加,而幼虫的则恰为相反。 3.发育零点的测定方法有实测,计算和图测三种。后面两种方法所得的结果都与实测的有一定的距离。     

水稻、小麦、油菜和烟草细胞质雄性不育系统中组分Ⅰ蛋白的比较分析

组分Ⅰ蛋白(RuBP羧化酶/加氧酶)的生物合成系由叶绿体基因和细胞核基因共同控制,所以,被作为研究细胞质遗传的标记。本实验用免疫化学和氨基酸成分分析等方法,对水稻(珍汕97)、小麦(繁7)、油菜(湘矮早)和烟草(G28)的细胞质雄性不育系及其保持系的组分Ⅰ蛋白作了比较,同时对不同作物的组分Ⅰ蛋白也作了免疫鉴定。结果表明,细胞质雄性不育系及其保持系的组分Ⅰ蛋白差异不大,但是,四种不同作物的组分Ⅰ蛋白之间有明显差异。     

大鼠海马—小脑皮层—小脑深部核团投射的电生理学和HRP研究

本文用电生理学和HRP示踪法,研究了大鼠海马-小脑皮层投射的空间分布,小脑皮层的海马投射区与其深部核团间的纤维联系。 电生理学的实验结果表明,刺激背侧海马CA_1/CA_3区,均可使小脑皮层第Ⅵ小叶的浦肯野细胞产生顺行多突触的诱发简单锋电位和复杂锋电位反应。提示背侧海马CA_1/CA_3区与小脑皮层之间有经苔状纤维和攀缘纤维的多突触投射。实验证明,大鼠的这一投射的终止区域,集中在小脑皮层第Ⅵ小叶中线外侧0.8—1.4mm的范围内;并且来自CA_1区的投射以对侧性为主,CA_3区的投射以同侧性为主。HRP示踪的实验表明,背侧海马CA_1/CA_3区在小脑皮层第Ⅵ小叶的投射区是小脑纵区组构的间位区,该区皮层与间位核之间存在着交互投射关系。     

Nucleotide sequence and expression of cheF, an essential gene for chemotaxis in Bacillus subtilis.

The cheF gene, which is involved in chemotaxis in Bacillus subtilis, has been cloned, expressed, and sequenced. This gene is contained in a 0.7-kilobase PstI DNA fragment that was isolated from a lambda Charon 4A B. subtilis chromosomal DNA library. This fragment was subcloned into the expression vector pSI-1 and shown to complement the cheF mutation both for chemotaxis and for methanol production in response to the addition of attractants. Plasmid-encoded DNA expression in B. subtilis maxicells indicated that a membrane-associated polypeptide of 20-kilodaltons was expressed from this 0.7-kilobase DNA. The nucleotide sequence of this DNA fragment was determined, and an open reading frame capable of encoding a putative 175-amino-acid protein (Mr 20,002) was identified. In an effort to understand the function of the cheF protein, the dosage of the cheF gene product was varied by altering the concentration of IPTG (isopropyl-beta-D-thiogalactopyranoside) during growth. In the presence of high concentrations of IPTG, chemotaxis was inhibited and methanol production was impaired.     

爪蟾(Xenopus laevis)的四倍体及其子一代

在爪蟾受精卵第一次有丝分裂中期进行静液压处理,抑制细胞质分裂从而得到四倍体。实验中获得三只存活了三年以上的四倍体雌性爪蟾。其中一只雌性与二倍体雄性爪蟾作人工催青得到受精卵。现已产卵三批,发育的胚胎400余,经检查子代染色体为三倍体。
