Chromolaena odorata is a native of America while a weed in many parts of tropical and subtropical regions in the world. Research into the invasion mechanisms of C. odorata contributes to a broader understanding of factors that facilitate plant adaptation, and also helps developing effective management strategies. In this study, we used three DNA fragments and six microsatellite loci: (1) to compare genetic diversity of C. odorata in its native and invaded regions; (2) to elucidate the invasive routes and identify possible source locations of C. odorata from America to Asia, with attempt to evaluate the possible mechanisms facilitating the successful invasion of this species. Despite two recorded independent introductions, DNA sequence data revealed only one single haplotype of C. odorata present throughout tropical Asia. All six microsatellite loci consistently exhibited extremely low genetic diversity in Asian populations compared to those from native ranges. Our results implied that there was likely only a single introduction to Asia, and Trinidad, Tobago and adjacent areas in the West Indies were the most likely source location of that introduction. The successful invasion of C. odorata in Asia may have been facilitated by the genotype with strong competitive ability.  相似文献

This ERP study used electrophysiological technique to examine how individual differences in the speed of working memory updating influence the use of syntactic and semantic information during on-line sentence argument interpretation, and the time course of that working memory updating effect. The basic structure of the experimental sentences was “Noun + Verb + adverb + ‘le’ + a two-character word”, with the Noun being the sentence initial argument. This initial argument is animate or inanimate and the following verb disambiguates it as an agent or patient. The results at the initial argument revealed that, the quick-updating group elicited a larger positivity over the frontal cortex (within 500–800 ms post-noun onset) as compared with the slow-updating group. At the following disambiguating verb, the slow-updating group only showed a word order effect, indicating that the patient-first condition elicited a larger P600 (within 500–1,000 ms post-verb onset) than the agent-first one; for the quick-updating group, at the early stage of processing, the patient-first sentences elicited a larger N400 (within 300–500 ms post-verb onset) than the agent-first ones only when the initial argument was inanimate; however, at the late stage, the patient-first sentences elicited an enhanced P600 (within 800–1,000 ms post-verb onset) only when the initial argument was animate. These results suggested that the speed of working memory updating not only influences the maintenance of sentence argument when the contents of working memory change but also influences the efficiency of integrating that argument with the verb at a late time point. When integrating the argument with the disambiguating verb, individuals with quick-updating ability can combine multiple sources of information (both noun animacy and word order), and conduct rapid and fine-grained two-stage processing; individuals with slow-updating ability, however, only rely on one dominant source of information types (word order), and conducted slow and course-grained processing.  相似文献

Tessaratoma papillosa (Drury) (Hemiptera: Tessaratomidae) is a serious insect pest of litchi and longan in South China. When disturbed, this insect could release large quantities of disagreeable odorous volatiles from its scent gland. Knowledge on the scent gland and its secretion is crucial for developing the semiochemical methods to manage this pest. Morphology and ultrastructure of the metathoracic scent glands (MTGs) were studied under stereo and scanning electron microscopy, and the volatile compounds of MTGs from both male and female T. papillosa were analyzed with coupled gas chromatography?Cmass spectrometry (GC?CMS). The MTG complex is located between the metathorax and the first abdominal segment at the ventral surface of the insect, which has a well-developed single double valve cystic-shaped orange median reservoir, paired colorless lateral glands in both sides, and a long and wavy tubular accessory gland that inlays tightly into the ventral edge around the median reservoir. The MTG opens to the body surface through paired ostioles located between the meso- and metacoxae of the evaporatorium with mushroom bodies. The GC?CMS analyses showed that female and male adults have nine major volatile components in common. Tridecane is the most abundant in both females and males, reaching up to 47.1% and 51.8% of relative amount, respectively. The minor component is benzophenone with only 0.28% and 0.14%. Furthermore, undecane, tetradecane, 3-methyl-tridecane, and cyclopentadecane were found only in males. The possible function of volatile compounds of MTG contents in T. papillosa is addressed.  相似文献

As toxic pollutants commonly found in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) products, lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) can enter the human body via smoking and thus pose a potential health risk to smokers. We conducted a greenhouse experiment to study the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) inoculation with Glomus intraradices BEG 141 and organic amendment with cattle manure, alone or in combination, on the growth, P nutrition, and heavy-metal uptake by tobacco plants grown in soil to which was added Pb-Cd at 0/0, 350/1, 500/10, and 1,000/100?mg?kg?1, respectively. In general, AM colonization and plant growth were greatly reduced by Pb-Cd contamination, whereas organic amendment alleviated Pb-Cd stress and showed some beneficial effects on AM symbiosis and some soil parameters. AM inoculation, alone or in combination with organic amendment, increased plant dry weights and improved P nutrition significantly at all Pb-Cd addition levels, and, in most cases, it decreased Pb and Cd concentrations in tobacco plants and DTPA-extractable concentrations in soil. AM inoculation increased total glomalin-related soil protein (GRSP) concentrations in soil to which Pb-Cd was added. The higher soil pH and GRSP contents and the lower DTPA-extractable Pb and Cd concentrations contributed by AM inoculation and/or organic amendment may be contributing factors that lead to higher growth promotion and lower metal toxicity and uptake by plants. Our findings suggest that AM inoculation in combination with organic manure may be a potential method for not only tobacco production but phytostabilization of Pb-Cd-contaminated soil.  相似文献

MicroRNAs (miRNAs), small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), and piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) impact numerous biological processes in eukaryotes. In addition to biogenesis, turnover contributes to the steady-state levels of small RNAs. One major factor that stabilizes miRNAs and siRNAs in plants as well as siRNAs and piRNAs in animals is 2'-O-methylation on the 3' terminal ribose by the methyltransferase HUA ENHANCER1 (HEN1) [1-6]. Genetic studies with Arabidopsis, Drosophila, and zebrafish hen1 mutants show that 2'-O-methylation protects small RNAs from 3'-to-5' truncation and 3' uridylation, the addition of nontemplated nucleotides, predominantly uridine [2, 7, 8]. Uridylation is a widespread phenomenon that is not restricted to small RNAs in hen1 mutants and is often associated with their reduced accumulation ([7, 9, 10]; reviewed in [11]). The enzymes responsible for 3' uridylation of small RNAs when they lack methylation in plants or animals have remained elusive. Here, we identify the Arabidopsis HEN1 SUPPRESSOR1 (HESO1) gene as responsible for small RNA uridylation in hen1 mutants. HESO1 exhibits terminal nucleotidyl transferase activity, prefers uridine as the substrate nucleotide, and is completely inhibited by 2'-O-methylation. We show that uridylation leads to miRNA degradation, and the degradation is most likely through an enzyme that is distinct from that causing the 3' truncation in hen1 mutants.  相似文献

The number of Beijing's civil vehicles is growing rapidly due to the great support of the automobile industry and the Chinese government and the increasing average per capita income of China's people. Exhaust emissions from vehicles have already become the main source of Beijing's air pollution. Based on the Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning System (LEAP), this article predicts the energy consumption and exhaust emissions from Beijing's civil vehicles. Also, we estimated the reduction potentials of China's new fuel consumption standards and exhaust pollutants standards that will be implemented from 2008 to 2020. Two scenarios were developed: “Business as Usual” (BAU) and “New Standard” (NS). In the BAU scenario, the Chinese government would do nothing to improve the fuel consumption standards and exhaust pollutants standards in the future. In the NS scenario, the Chinese government would implement more strict fuel consumption standards and exhaust pollutants standards for Beijing's civil vehicles. By comparing the results of the two scenarios for year 2020, the energy consumption will experience a reduction of 7.8%, and the exhaust pollutants CO, HC, NOX, PM, and the emissions of CO2 would decrease by 43.3%, 36.4%, 60.3%, 81.2%, and 7.8%, respectively.  相似文献

Homohexameric, N-Ethylmaleimide Sensitive Factor (NSF) disassembles Soluble NSF Attachment Protein Receptor (SNARE) complexes after membrane fusion, an essential step in vesicular trafficking. NSF contains three domains (NSF-N, NSF-D1, and NSF-D2), each contributing to activity. We combined electron microscopic (EM) analysis, analytical ultracentrifugation (AU) and functional mutagenesis to visualize NSF's ATPase cycle. 3D density maps show that NSF-D2 remains stable, whereas NSF-N undergoes large conformational changes. NSF-Ns splay out perpendicular to the ADP-bound hexamer and twist upwards upon ATP binding, producing a more compact structure. These conformations were confirmed by hydrodynamic, AU measurements: NSF-ATP sediments faster with a lower frictional ratio (f/f(0)). Hydrodynamic analyses of NSF mutants, with specific functional defects, define the structures underlying these conformational changes. Mapping mutations onto our 3D models allows interpretation of the domain movement and suggests a mechanism for NSF binding to and disassembly of SNARE complexes.  相似文献

Corynebacterium glutamicum is widely used for industrial production of various amino acids and vitamins, and there is growing interest in engineering this bacterium for more commercial bioproducts such as γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA). In this study, a C. glutamicum GABA-specific transporter (GabP(Cg)) encoded by ncgl0464 was identified and characterized. GabP(Cg) plays a major role in GABA uptake and is essential to C. glutamicum growing on GABA. GABA uptake by GabP(Cg) was weakly competed by l-Asn and l-Gln and stimulated by sodium ion (Na(+)). The K(m) and V(max) values were determined to be 41.1 ± 4.5 μM and 36.8 ± 2.6 nmol min(-1) (mg dry weight [DW])(-1), respectively, at pH 6.5 and 34.2 ± 1.1 μM and 67.3 ± 1.0 nmol min(-1) (mg DW)(-1), respectively, at pH 7.5. GabP(Cg) has 29% amino acid sequence identity to a previously and functionally identified aromatic amino acid transporter (TyrP) of Escherichia coli but low identities to the currently known GABA transporters (17% and 15% to E. coli GabP and Bacillus subtilis GabP, respectively). The mutant RES167 Δncgl0464/pGXKZ9 with the GabP(Cg) deletion showed 12.5% higher productivity of GABA than RES167/pGXKZ9. It is concluded that GabP(Cg) represents a new type of GABA transporter and is potentially important for engineering GABA-producing C. glutamicum strains.  相似文献
