The extensive series of experiments reported in Lemons et al. [1] show that measureable local tissue temperature fluctuations are observed primarily in the vicinity of the 100-500 micron countercurrent vessels of the microcirculation and thus strongly support the basic hypothesis in the new bioheat equation of Weinbaum and Jiji [2] that these countercurrent microvessels are the principal determinants of local blood-tissue heat transfer. However, the detailed temperature profiles in the vicinity of these vessels indicate that large asymmetries in the local temperature field can result from the significant differences in size between the countercurrent artery and vein. Using the superposition techniques of Baish et al. [9], the paper first presents a solution to the classic problem of an unequal countercurrent heat exchanger with heat loss to the far field. This solution is then used to generalize the Weinbaum-Jiji bioheat equation and the conductivity tensor that appears in this equation to vessels of unequal size. An asymptotic analysis has also been developed to elucidate the relationship between the near field temperature of the artery-vein pair and the local average tissue temperature. This analysis is used to rigorously prove the closure approximation relating the local arterial-venous temperature difference and the mean tissue temperature gradient which had been derived in [2] using a more heuristic approach. 相似文献

Bilateral electrical lesioning of the hippocampal CA3 region (HCA3-EL) or anterior commissura hippocampi (ACHF-EL) caused marked elevations in plasma basal levels of insulin. 2 weeks later, fasting blood glucose levels were also augmented with decreased glucose tolerance. In contrast, the secretory response of pancreatic B cells to glucose stimulation was markedly enhanced. Following intravenous glucose tolerance test (IVGTT), the relative amounts of glucagon-like and insulin-like immunoreactants were reduced in the pancreatic islets of both HCA3-EL and ACHF-EL rats in comparison with the controls. In the HCA3-EL group, the relative amounts of somatostatin-like immunoreactants and gross numbers of such immunostained cells in islets were also decreased as compared with the control. No difference was seen in pancreatic-polypeptide-like immunoreactivities as assessed by immunohistochemistry plus microphotometry method. The above results suggest strongly that HCA3 and ACHF exert a tonic inhibitory action on the insulin secretion in the rat. 相似文献

An auxin-stimulated NADH oxidase activity (NADH oxidase I) of plasma membrane vesicles, highly purified by aqueous two-phase partition from soybean (Glycine max Merr.) hypocotyls was activated by lysophospholipids and fatty acids, both products of phospholipase A action. The activation of NADH oxidase activity occurred slowly, suggesting a mechanism whereby the lipids acted to stabilize the enzyme in a more active configuration. In contrast to activation by lipids, the activation by auxin was rapid. The average Km of the NADH oxidase after activation by lipids was four- to fivefold less than the Km before activation. The Vmax was unchanged by activation. The increases occurred in the presence of detergent and thus were not a result of exposure of latent active sites. Also, the activation did not result from activation of a peroxidase or lipoxygenase. Fatty acid esters, where growth promoting effects have been reported, also activated the auxin-stimulated oxidase. However, the auxin stimulation of NADH oxidase I did not appear to be obligatorily mediated by phospholipase A, nor did inhibitors of phospholipase A2 block the stimulation of the oxidase by auxins. 相似文献

Summary Studies utilizing restriction analysis of plastid DNA, as well as those employing chlorophyll-deficient mutants, have shown a high frequency of paternal plastid transmission in alfalfa. Recent research has also shown that plastid inheritance patterns among alfalfa genotypes and are under genetic control. In a previous study we were unable to detect any correlations between qualitative, three-dimensional ultrastructure of generative cells and male plastid transmission strength in certain genotypes. In the present study we used serial ultrathin sectioning, computerized reconstruction and quantitation, and stereology to further analyze generative cells within mature pollen. Measurements included volumes and surface areas of cells, nuclei, and organelles, as well as organelle number and distribution. Three genotypes were investigated, one that is a strong transmitter of male plastids (genotype 301), one that is a weaker transmitter of male plastids (genotype 7W), and a third that is an even weaker male plastid transmitter (genotype MS-5). Our results show that genotype MS-5 has significantly fewer plastids/generative cell than either of the other genotypes, which may account for it being a relatively poor transmitter of male plastids. However, plastid number does not explain known differences in male plastid inheritance between genotypes 301 and 7W, since plastid number does not differ significantly between these two genotypes. Regarding the other features of generative cells measured in this study, no consistent correlations were found that might account for differences in male plastid inheritance patterns between genotypes. Plastid distribution is equal in each end of the spindle-shaped generative cell in all genotypes studied. Similar relative results were found with regard to mitochondria within generative cells; however, comparative genetic data are not available on mitochondrial transmission patterns in alfalfa genotypes. 相似文献

[3H]gibberellin A9 was applied to shoots or seed parts of G2 pea to produce radiolabeled metabolites. These were used as markers during purification for the recovery of endogenous GA9 and its naturally occurring metabolites. GA9 and its metabolites were purified by HPLC, derivatized and examined by GC-MS. Endogenous GA9, GA20, GA29 and GA51 were identified in pea shoots and seed coats. GA51-catabolite and GA29-catabolite were also detected in seed coats. GA70 was detected in seed coats following the application of 1 g of GA9. Applied [3H]GA9 was metabolized through both the 13-hydroxylation and 2-hydroxylation pathways. Labeled metabolites were tentatively identified on the basis of co-chromatography on HPLC with endogenous compounds identified by GC-MS. In shoots [3H]GA51 and [3H]GA51-catabolite were the predominant metabolites after 6 hrs, but by 24 hrs there was little of these metabolites remaining, while [3H]GA29-catabolite and an unidentified metabolite predominated. In seed coats [3H]GA51 was the initial product, later followed by [3H]GA51-catabolite and an unidentified metabolite (different from that in shoots), with lesser amounts of [3H]GA20, [3H]GA29 and [3H]GA29-catabolite.
