Artificial materials that can simultaneously mimic the relative permittivity and conductivity of various human tissues are usually used in medical applications. However, the method of precisely designing these materials with designated values of both relative permittivity and conductivity at 3 T MRI resonance frequency is lacking. In this study, a reliable method is established to determine the compositions of artificial dielectric materials with designated relative permittivity and conductivity at 128 MHz. Sixty dielectric materials were produced using oil, sodium chloride, gelatin, and deionized water as the main raw materials. The dielectric properties of these dielectric materials were measured using the open‐ended coaxial line method at 128 MHz. Nonlinear least‐squares Marquardt–Levenberg algorithm was used to obtain the formula, establishing the relationship between the compositions of the dielectric materials and their dielectric properties at 128 MHz. The dielectric properties of the blood, gall bladder, muscle, skin, lung, and bone at 128 MHz were selected to verify the reliability of the obtained formula. For the obtained formula, the coefficient of determination and the expanded uncertainties with a coverage factor of k = 2 were 0.991% and 4.9% for relative permittivity and 0.992% and 6.4% for conductivity. For the obtained artificial materials measured using the open‐ended coaxial line method, the maximal difference of relative permittivity and conductivity were 1.0 and 0.02 S/m, respectively, with respect to the designated values. In conclusion, the compositions of tissue‐mimicking material can be quickly determined after the establishment of the formulas with the expanded uncertainties of less than 10%. The plastidic thioredoxin F-type (TrxF) protein plays an important role in plant saccharide metabolism. In this study, a gene encoding the TrxF protein, named SlTrxF, was isolated from tomato. The coding region of SlTrxF was cloned into a binary vector under the control of 35S promoter and then transformed into Arabidopsis thaliana. The transgenic Arabidopsis plants exhibited increased starch accumulation compared to the wild-type (WT). Real-time quantitative PCR analysis showed that constitutive expression of SlTrxF up-regulated the expression of ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase (AGPase) small subunit (AtAGPase-S1 and AtAGPase-S2), AGPase large subunit (AtAGPase-L1 and AtAGPase-L2) and soluble starch synthase (AtSSS I, AtSSS II, AtSSS III and AtSSS IV) genes involved in starch biosynthesis in the transgenic Arabidopsis plants. Meanwhile, enzymatic analyses showed that the major enzymes (AGPase and SSS) involved in the starch biosynthesis exhibited higher activities in the transgenic plants compared to WT. These results suggest that SlTrxF may improve starch content of Arabidopsis by regulating the expression of the related genes and increasing the activities of the major enzymes involved in starch biosynthesis. 相似文献

Silicon (Si) could enhance plant tolerance to heavy metals; however, the mechanism of Si-mediated alleviation of cadmium (Cd) toxicity in Poa annua was not clear. In this study, we found that 100 μM Cd significantly inhibited the growth of Poa annua seedlings. Furthermore, Cd enhanced the H2O2 and malondialdehyde content. The activities of superoxide dismutase and ascorbate peroxidase were enhanced, but the catalase and peroxidase activities were reduced by Cd treatment. Cd also altered the activity and expression of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) in Poa annua roots. Application of Na3PO4, an inhibitor of G6PDH, decreased the activity of G6PDH, the expression of G6PDH, and increased the Cd toxicity, suggesting that G6PDH is involved in the regulation of oxidative stress induced by Cd. Application of 1 mM Si alleviated the inhibition of Cd on the growth of Poa annua seedlings. Si application not only led to reduced oxidative injuries but also decreased the accumulation of Cd in Poa annua seedlings under Cd stress. Furthermore, Si decreased the activity of G6PDH and the expression of G6PDH under Cd stress, which demonstrated that Si attenuates the Cd toxicity in Poa annua probably through decreasing the expression of G6PDH under Cd stress. When G6PDH was inhibited, the alleviation impact of Si on Cd stress was abolished. Taken together, these results demonstrated that the Cd tolerance in Poa annua enhanced by Si is mainly due to the decrease of Cd uptake in roots and lowering the oxidative stress induced by Cd. 相似文献

New energy storage and conversion systems require large‐scale, cost‐effective, good safety, high reliability, and high energy density. This study demonstrates a low‐cost and safe aqueous rechargeable lithium‐nickel (Li‐Ni) battery with solid state Ni(OH)2/NiOOH redox couple as cathode and hybrid electrolytes separated by a Li‐ion‐conductive solid electrolyte layer. The proposed aqueous rechargeable Li‐Ni battery exhibits an approximately open‐circuit potential of 3.5 V, outperforming the theoretic stable window of water 1.23 V, and its energy density can be 912.6 W h kg‐1, which is much higher than that of state‐of‐the‐art lithium ion batteries. The use of a solid‐state redox couple as cathode with a metallic lithium anode provides another postlithium chemistry for practical energy storage and conversion. 相似文献

To evaluate the effect of human activities on the amount of nitrogen (N) transported to the Three Gorges Dam (TGD), we have developed and applied a model to estimate the riverine N transport from watersheds draining into the upper Changjiang River basin. By using this model and a database of agricultural statistics, we study the temporal and spatial changes in N inputs to watersheds and surface waters. The total amount of N transported to the surface drainage waters from the agro-ecosystem in 2000 showed a 2.9-fold increase over that in 1980. Considering a constant (37%) loss rate from the river, the annual amount of N transported to the TGD from the agro-ecosystem of the Changjiang river upper basin was about 0.35 × 106, 0.47 × 106, 0.59 × 106, 0.64 × 106 and 1.01 × 106 t in 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, and 2000, respectively. Further, the transported amount of new anthropogenic reactive N approximately quadrupled in 2000, while the amount of riverine N due to rural human waste varied slightly. Of the total N transported to surface drainage waters in 10 watersheds in 2000, the Jialingjiang watershed accounted for 35%; the TGD region, 15%; and the Toujiang, Wujiang and Minjiang watersheds, 11% each. In 1980, the N sources were concentrated in the rural areas surrounding Chendu City and Chongqing City; however, these sources considerably expanded in the 1990s. The increased use of synthetic fertilizers and the decrease in the fertilizer N-use efficiency are implicated as major causal factors of increased riverine N transport; the calculated amount of N transported to the main tributaries agrees well with previously reported data. 相似文献

The most conspicuous biological invasions in terrestrial ecosystems have been by exotic plants, insects and vertebrates. Invasions by exotic earthworms, although not as well studied, may be increasing with global commerce in agriculture, waste management and bioremediation. A number of cases has documented where invasive earthworms have caused significant changes in soil profiles, nutrient and organic matter dynamics, other soil organisms or plant communities. Most of these cases are in areas that have been disturbed (e.g., agricultural systems) or were previously devoid of earthworms (e.g., north of Pleistocene glacial margins). It is not clear that such effects are common in ecosystems inhabited by native earthworms, especially where soils are undisturbed. We explore the idea that indigenous earthworm fauna and/or characteristics of their native habitats may resist invasion by exotic earthworms and thereby reduce the impact of exotic species on soil processes. We review data and case studies from temperate and tropical regions to test this idea. Specifically, we address the following questions: Is disturbance a prerequisite to invasion by exotic earthworms? What are the mechanisms by which exotic earthworms may succeed or fail to invade habitats occupied by native earthworms? Potential mechanisms could include (1) intensity of propagule pressure (how frequently and at what densities have exotic species been introduced and has there been adequate time for proliferation?); (2) degree of habitat matching (once introduced, are exotic species faced with unsuitable habitat conditions, unavailable resources, or unsuited feeding strategies?); and (3) degree of biotic resistance (after introduction into an otherwise suitable habitat, are exotic species exposed to biological barriers such as predation or parasitism, “unfamiliar” microflora, or competition by resident native species?). Once established, do exotic species co-exist with native species, or are the natives eventually excluded? Do exotic species impact soil processes differently in the presence or absence of native species? We conclude that (1) exotic earthworms do invade ecosystems inhabited by indigenous earthworms, even in the absence of obvious disturbance; (2) competitive exclusion of native earthworms by exotic earthworms is not easily demonstrated and, in fact, co-existence of native and exotic species appears to be common, even if transient; and (3) resistance to exotic earthworm invasions, if it occurs, may be more a function of physical and chemical characteristics of a habitat than of biological interactions between native and exotic earthworms. 相似文献

Aptamers are short nucleic acid sequences that are used as ligands to bind their targets with high affinity. They are generated via the combinatorial chemistry procedure systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX). Aptamers have shown much promise towards detection of a variety of protein targets, including cytokines. Specifically, for the determination of cytokines and growth factors, several assays making use of aptamers have been developed, including aptamer-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, antibody-linked oligonucleotide assay, fluorescence (anisotropy and resonance energy transfer) assays, and proximity ligation assays. In this article, the concept of aptamer selection using SELEX and the assay formats using aptamers for the detection of cytokines are discussed. 相似文献

The palisade cell sizes in leaves of Eucalyptus pauciflora were estimated in paradermal sections of cryo-fixed leaves imaged in the cryo-scanning electron microscope, as a quantity called the cell area fraction (CAF). Cell sizes were measured in detached leaves as a function of leaf water content, in intact leaves in the field during a day"s transpiration as a function of balance pressure of adjacent leaves, and on leaf disks equilibrated with air of relative humidities from 100 to 58%. Values of CAF ranged from 0.82 at saturation to approx. 0.3 in leaves dried to a relative water content (RWC) of 0.5, and in the field to approx. 0.58 at 15 bar (1.5 MPa) balance pressure. At a CAF of 0.58, the moisture content of the cell walls is in equilibrium with air at 90% relative humidity, which is the estimated relative humidity in the intercellular spaces. It is shown that at this moisture content, the cell walls could be exerting a pressure of approx. 50 bar on the cell contents. 相似文献

Although the issue of estrogen replacement therapy on cardiovascular health is debatable, it has presumable benefits for endothelial function in postmenopausal women. However, the fear of breast cancer has intimidated women contemplating estrogen treatment and limited its long-term application. An effective alternative remedy not associated with breast carcinoma is in serious demand. This study was designed to examine the effect of phytoestrogen alpha-zearalanol (alpha-ZAL) and 17beta-estradiol (E2) on nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin (ET)-1 levels, apoptosis, and apoptotic enzymes in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). HUVEC cells were challenged for 24 h with homocysteine (10-3 M), an independent risk factor for a variety of vascular diseases, in the presence of alpha-ZAL or E2 (10-9 to 10-6 M). Release of NO and ET-1 were measured with enzyme immunoassay. Apoptosis was evaluated by fluorescence-activated cell sorter analysis. Expression of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), Bax, and Bcl-2 were determined using Western blot. NOS activity was evaluated with 3H-arginine to 3H-citrulline conversion. Our results indicated that Hcy significantly reduced NO production, NOS activity, enhanced ET-1/NO ratio and apoptosis, upregulated iNOS, Bax, and downregulated eNOS, Bcl-2 expression. These effects were significantly attenuated by alpha-ZAL and E2. ZAL displayed a similar potency compared with E2 in antagonizing Hcy-induced effects. In summary, these results suggested that alpha-ZAL may effectively preserve Hcy-induced decrease in NO, increase in ET-1/NO ratio and apoptosis, which contributes to protective effects of phytoestrogens on endothelial function. 相似文献
