Appearance is known to influence social interactions, which in turn could potentially influence personality development. In this study we focus on discovering the relationship between self-reported personality traits, first impressions and facial characteristics. The results reveal that several personality traits can be read above chance from a face, and that facial features influence first impressions. Despite the former, our prediction model fails to reliably infer personality traits from either facial features or first impressions. First impressions, however, could be inferred more reliably from facial features. We have generated artificial, extreme faces visualising the characteristics having an effect on first impressions for several traits. Conclusively, we find a relationship between first impressions, some personality traits and facial features and consolidate that people on average assess a given face in a highly similar manner. 相似文献
Cholinergic signaling plays an important role in regulating the growth and regeneration of axons in the nervous system. The α7 nicotinic receptor (α7) can drive synaptic development and plasticity in the hippocampus. Here, we show that activation of α7 significantly reduces axon growth in hippocampal neurons by coupling to G protein‐regulated inducer of neurite outgrowth 1 (Gprin1), which targets it to the growth cone. Knockdown of Gprin1 expression using RNAi is found sufficient to abolish the localization and calcium signaling of α7 at the growth cone. In addition, an α7/Gprin1 interaction appears intimately linked to a Gαo, growth‐associated protein 43, and CDC42 cytoskeletal regulatory pathway within the developing axon. These findings demonstrate that α7 regulates axon growth in hippocampal neurons, thereby likely contributing to synaptic formation in the developing brain.
To provide a reference for wetlands elsewhere we analysed soil nutrients and the vegetation of floodplains and fens in the
relatively undisturbed Biebrza-valley, Poland. Additionally, by studying sites along a water-table gradient, and by comparing
pairs of mown and unmown sites, we aimed with exploring long-term effects of drainage and annual hay-removal on nutrient availabilities
and vegetation response. In undrained fens and floodplains, N mineralization went slowly (0–30 kg N ha−1 year−1) but it increased strongly with decreasing water table (up to 120 kg N ha−1 year−1). Soil N, P and K pools were small in the undisturbed mires. Drainage had caused a shift from fen to meadow species and the
disappearance of bryophytes. Biomass of vascular plants increased with increasing N mineralization and soil P. Annual hay-removal
tended to have reduced N mineralization and soil K pools, but it had increased soil P. Moreover, N concentrations in vascular
plants were not affected, but P and K concentrations and therefore N:P and N:K ratios tended to be changed. Annual hay-removal
had induced a shift from P to K limitation in the severely drained fen, and from P to N limitation in the floodplain. The
low nutrient availabilities and productivity of the undisturbed Biebrza mires illustrate the vulnerability of such mires to
eutrophication in Poland and elsewhere. In nutrient-enriched areas, hay removal may prevent productivity increase of the vegetation,
but also may severely alter N:P:K stoichiometry, induce K-limitation at drained sites, and alter vegetation structure and
composition. 相似文献
The antigenic structure of the rabies virus glycoprotein has been studied. A limited number of fragments were obtained by cyanogen bromide (CNBr) cleavage of viral glycoprotein, and eight large peptides were isolated by using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. These were tested for their capacity to stimulate the proliferation of nylon wool-purified T cells obtained from spleens of rabies-immune A/J mice. Three peptides (Cr1, Cr2 plus Cr2A, and Cr3) stimulated antigen-specific proliferation, indicating that at least three T cell determinants of the native molecule are sequential or continuous in nature. Stimulation was also obtained with 27-residue and 13-residue synthetic peptides (designated R21 and R20, respectively) that included sequences towards the carboxy terminal end of Cr1, but not with synthetic peptides that included sequences of Cr2 and Cr3 (which are both glycosylated in virus-derived material). The intact viral glycoprotein and synthetic peptide R21 stimulated T lymphocytes with surface characteristics of helper cells, and induced the production of interleukin 2 by these lymphocytes. Synthetic peptides R20 and R21 also stimulated a minor population of Lyt-2-positive cells, which were not yet identified as either suppressor or cytotoxic T lymphocytes. 相似文献
Catalytic fields illustrate topology of the optimal charge distribution of a molecular environment reducing the activation energy for any process involving barrier crossing, like chemical reaction, bond rotation etc. Until now, this technique has been successfully applied to predict catalytic effects resulting from intermolecular interactions with individual water molecules constituting the first hydration shell, aminoacid mutations in enzymes or Si→Al substitutions in zeolites. In this contribution, hydrogen to fluorine (H→F) substitution effects for two model reactions have been examined indicating qualitative applicability of the catalytic field concept in the case of systems involving intramolecular interactions.
Rabies vaccines concentrated by ultrafiltration, zinc acetate precipitation, ammonium sulfate precipitation, or aluminum phosphate gel adsorption were compared with respect to recovery of protective activity and purity, as measured by protective activity per mg of protein. Vaccine obtained by ammonium sulfate precipitation had a better recovery rate and a higher purity than those prepared by the other methods. Potent vaccines were also obtained by the zinc acetate precipitation and aluminum phosphate gel adsorption methods, whereas ultrafiltration was the least satisfactory method from the standpoint of vaccine purity. Chromatography of virus concentrated by ultrafiltration on a cellulose ion exchange column reduced the level of nonviral proteins. The protective activity data obtained for the vaccines examined in these experiments were found to correlate with the vaccine's complement fixation titer per mg of protein. 相似文献
