Appearance is known to influence social interactions, which in turn could potentially influence personality development. In this study we focus on discovering the relationship between self-reported personality traits, first impressions and facial characteristics. The results reveal that several personality traits can be read above chance from a face, and that facial features influence first impressions. Despite the former, our prediction model fails to reliably infer personality traits from either facial features or first impressions. First impressions, however, could be inferred more reliably from facial features. We have generated artificial, extreme faces visualising the characteristics having an effect on first impressions for several traits. Conclusively, we find a relationship between first impressions, some personality traits and facial features and consolidate that people on average assess a given face in a highly similar manner. 相似文献

The antigenic structure of the rabies virus glycoprotein has been studied. A limited number of fragments were obtained by cyanogen bromide (CNBr) cleavage of viral glycoprotein, and eight large peptides were isolated by using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. These were tested for their capacity to stimulate the proliferation of nylon wool-purified T cells obtained from spleens of rabies-immune A/J mice. Three peptides (Cr1, Cr2 plus Cr2A, and Cr3) stimulated antigen-specific proliferation, indicating that at least three T cell determinants of the native molecule are sequential or continuous in nature. Stimulation was also obtained with 27-residue and 13-residue synthetic peptides (designated R21 and R20, respectively) that included sequences towards the carboxy terminal end of Cr1, but not with synthetic peptides that included sequences of Cr2 and Cr3 (which are both glycosylated in virus-derived material). The intact viral glycoprotein and synthetic peptide R21 stimulated T lymphocytes with surface characteristics of helper cells, and induced the production of interleukin 2 by these lymphocytes. Synthetic peptides R20 and R21 also stimulated a minor population of Lyt-2-positive cells, which were not yet identified as either suppressor or cytotoxic T lymphocytes. 相似文献

The ratios between frequency components of evoked otoacoustic emissions (OAE) were investigated for 100 ears. The signals
were decomposed by means of an adaptive approximation method into basic waveforms coming from a very large and redundant dictionary
of Gabor functions. The high time-frequency resolution of the method and the parametric representation of the waveforms allowed
for an estimation of the frequency ratios of the basic components. A repetitive occurrence of the “fifths”, “fourths” and
octaves connected with the Pythagorean temperament was found. The octaves containing “fifths” were identified. This kind of
sequences in OAE tend to appear in the same form for tonal stimulations of different frequencies and for broadband stimuli.
The significance of the results was confirmed by comparison to Monte Carlo simulations of the null hypothesis of random distribution
of frequency modes. These findings support the resonance theory of hearing, which binds musical ratios with the geometrical

The human Rad51 protein is essential for DNA repair by homologous recombination. In addition to Rad51 protein, five paralogs have been identified: Rad51B/Rad51L1, Rad51C/Rad51L2, Rad51D/Rad51L3, XRCC2, and XRCC3. To further characterize a subset of these proteins, recombinant Rad51, Rad51B-(His)(6), and Rad51C proteins were individually expressed employing the baculovirus system, and each was purified from Sf9 insect cells. Evidence from nickel-nitrilotriacetic acid pull-down experiments demonstrates a highly stable Rad51B.Rad51C heterodimer, which interacts weakly with Rad51. Rad51B and Rad51C proteins were found to bind single- and double-stranded DNA and to preferentially bind 3'-end-tailed double-stranded DNA. The ability to bind DNA was elevated with mixed Rad51 and Rad51C, as well as with mixed Rad51B and Rad51C, compared with that of the individual protein. In addition, both Rad51B and Rad51C exhibit DNA-stimulated ATPase activity. Rad51C displays an ATP-independent apparent DNA strand exchange activity, whereas Rad51B shows no such activity; this apparent strand exchange ability results actually from a duplex DNA destabilization capability of Rad51C. By analogy to the yeast Rad55 and Rad57, our results suggest that Rad51B and Rad51C function through interactions with the human Rad51 recombinase and play a crucial role in the homologous recombinational repair pathway. 相似文献

Histological study of the skeleton of Claudiosaurus germaini reveals extensive pachyostosis. This feature results from the filling of intra‐osseous cavities by centripetal, endosteal deposits and occurs in conjunction with an intense remodelling of the bones by resorption and re‐deposition. Epiphyseal calcified cartilages are rapidly and entirely resorbed. Extensive pachyostosis suggests that Claudiosaurus was an aquatic reptile. However, the pachyostotic condition in this genus appears histogenetically quite different from the common type of pachyostosis observed in other aquatic tetrapods. The Pictet–Spengler (PS) reaction was performed with various types of substrates: H‐Trp‐OMe and dipeptides with N‐terminal Trp as arylethylamine components and Z‐protected amino aldehydes and peptidoaldehydes as carbonyl components. We found that the C‐terminal part of Trp derivatives did not have any influence on the stereoselectivity of the reaction and the results are the same for simple esters of Trp and dipeptides. On the contrary, the selectivity of the PS reaction with peptidoaldehydes with L configuration of the C‐terminus residue is totally different from that obtained with simple L‐amino aldehydes. It allows us to obtain cis stereoisomers, which cannot be isolated from the reaction with amino aldehydes. But the utility of the peptidoaldehydes as substrates for the PS reaction is reduced by the side formation of enamides which decrease the yield of cyclization. Escherichia coli is frequently exploited for genetic manipulations and heterologous gene expression studies. We have evaluated the metabolic profile of E. coli strain BL21 (DE3) RIL CodonPlus after genetic modifications and subjecting to the production of recombinant protein. Three genetically variable E. coli cell types were studied, normal cells (susceptible to antibiotics) cultured in simple LB medium, cells harboring ampicillin-resistant plasmid pET21a (+), grown under antibiotic stress, and cells having recombinant plasmid pET21a (+) ligated with bacterial lactate dehydrogenase gene grown under ampicillin and standard isopropyl thiogalactoside (IPTG)-induced gene expression conditions. A total of 592 metabolites were identified through liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry analysis, feature and peak detection using XCMS and CAMERA followed by precursor identification by METLIN-based procedures. Overall, 107 metabolites were found differentially regulated among genetically modified cells. Quantitative analysis has shown a significant modulation in DHNA-CoA, p-aminobenzoic acid, and citrulline levels, indicating an alteration in vitamin K, folic acid biosynthesis, and urea cycle of E. coli cells during heterologous gene expression. Modulations in energy metabolites including NADH, AMP, ADP, ATP, carbohydrate, terpenoids, fatty acid metabolites, diadenosine tetraphosphate (Ap4A), and l -carnitine advocate major metabolic rearrangements. Our study provides a broader insight into the metabolic adaptations of bacterial cells during gene manipulation experiments that can be prolonged to improve the yield of heterologous gene products and concomitant production of valuable biomolecules. 相似文献

Although ptosis of the tip of the chin is common and can be seen in persons of any age, it is frequently seen in older patients seeking facial rejuvenation. A variety of techniques have been described to correct ptosis of the chin. The authors describe a minimally invasive method that can be used correct chin ptosis. This technique uses a small intraoral incision to place a U-shaped Prolene suture that gathers the soft tissue of the chin and elevates it above the lower border of the mandibular symphysis. A retrospective review of 314 cases performed in conjunction with face lifts between January of 1994 and January of 2000 was performed to evaluate this technique. There were no significant complications, and long-term results have been very satisfactory and lasting. 相似文献
