The essential oils isolated from the fresh flowers, fresh leaves, and both fresh and air‐dried stems of Eremophila maculata (Scrophulariaceae) were characterized by GC‐FID and GC/MS analyses. Sabinene was the major component in most of the oils, followed by limonene, α‐pinene, benzaldehyde, (Z)‐β‐ocimene, and spathulenol. The leaf and flower essential oils showed antibacterial and antifungal activity against five Gram‐positive and four Gram‐negative bacterial strains, multi‐resistant clinical isolates from patients, i.e., methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), as well as two yeasts. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) and minimum microbicidal concentrations (MMCs) were between 0.25 and 4 mg/ml. 相似文献

Gleditsia triacanthos L. is a deciduous tree belonging to the family Fabaceae. It possesses important biological activities as anti-mutagenic, anticancer, cytotoxic and treating rheumatoid arthritis. The total ethanol extract (EtOHE) and successive extracts (petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and aqueous ethanol) were prepared from the leaves. Eight flavone glycosides and two flavone aglycones named vicenin-I (1), vitexin (2), isovitexin (3), orientin (4), isoorientin (5), luteolin-7-O-ß-glucopyranoside (6), luteolin-7-O-ß-galactopyranoside (7), apigenin-7-O-ß-glucopyranoside (8), luteolin (9) and apigenin (10) were isolated from the aqueous ethanol extract of G. triacanthos L. leaves. Potent cytotoxic activity of the EtOHE extract was observed against the liver (IC50 = 1.68 μg), breast (IC50 = 0.74 μg), cervix (IC50 = 1.28 μg), larynx (IC50 = 0.67 μg) and colon (IC50 = 2.50 μg) cancer cell lines. Cytotoxic activity of compounds 2, 4, 6 and 8 against, the liver, breast and colon cancer cell lines was also proved. Evaluation of the in-vivo antioxidant activity of the EtOHE and successive extracts revealed that the highest activity was exhibited by 100 mg of EtOHE (97.89% potency) as compared with vitamin E (100% potency). Breast cancer constitutes the second most prevalent cancer in Egypt, the problem needs more trends in treatment and treatment development either by regimen modification or introducing new drugs, and the main objective of this study is to screen the effects of the aqueous ethanol herbal extract of Luffa cylindrica leaves on different types of breast cancer cell lines representing different molecular subtypes of the disease. The major active constituents of the extract were tentatively identified by LC/MS which revealed the presence of phenolic compound derivatives and saponin that may be responsible in part for the activity of the extract. The emphasis was laid on the main apoptotic pathways as well as the extract effect on the normal cell line. Results of phytochemical investigation, cell cycle analysis, and molecular analysis of apoptotic and proliferative markers have shown effective anticancer activity against MCF‐7, BT‐474, and MDA‐MB‐231 cell lines which represent three subtypes of breast cancer, luminal A, luminal B, and triple negative, respectively. On the other hand, the effects on normal lung fibroblast cell line are less prominent at the dose used for treating breast cancer cell lines. 相似文献

Durum wheat is capable of accumulating cadmium, a toxic heavy metal, in the grain at levels that have been deemed unsafe for human consumption. Previous studies have identified genetic variation as well as markers associated with Cd accumulation in durum wheat, which can be exploited to develop low Cd cultivars. Because the phenotyping for Cd content is very expensive, KASP markers were developed from molecular markers associated with grain Cd and tested for their usefulness for marker-assisted breeding. A total of 1278 unique genotypes from preliminary and advanced yield trials grown at multiple locations for 2 years were evaluated for grain Cd as well as screened for markers associated with Cd uptake. One marker on chromosome 5B was polymorphic in all crosses between high and low Cd parents and had r2 values ranging from 0.38 to 0.85. Two other markers on the same chromosome predicted similar levels of variation in many trials; however, they were not polymorphic in all populations. The KASP markers accurately predicted up to 97% of the lines for Cd phenotype in different trials. This study identified two markers, Cad-5B and Ex_c1343_2570756, with an average prediction accuracy of 84–88%. Several proteins and genes are members of families that share a public evolutionary. In order to outline the evolutionary relationships and to recognize conserved patterns, sequence comparison becomes an emerging process. The current work investigates critically the k-mer role in composition vector method for comparing genome sequences. Generally, composition vector methods using k-mer are applied under choice of different value of k to compare genome sequences. For some values of k, results are satisfactory, but for other values of k, results are unsatisfactory. Standard composition vector method is carried out in the proposed work using 3-mer string length. In addition, special type of information based similarity index is used as a distance measure. It establishes that use of 3-mer and information based similarity index provide satisfactory results especially for comparison of whole genome sequences in all cases. This study aimed to assess genotoxicity in wild plants grown in Jordan as a pollution bioindicator. Comet assay was used to evaluate the level of DNA damage in plants collected from different areas in Jordan. Significant differences in plant DNA damage index and frequency were observed among sites of collection. Results show that plants collected from Aqaba back road and Ghour Assaal had significantly higher damage values. In contrast, plants collected from Wadi Rum, Al Naqab Heights, Swaimeh/Deadsea and Alshoneh Aljanobyeh showed low levels of DNA damage. A similar trend was observed for lipid peroxidation rates. Furthermore, heavy metal analysis showed that plants collected from Aqaba back road and Aqaba airport had the highest Al, Cr, Fe, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb contents. A significant correlation was observed between DNA Damage Index, DNA Damage Frequency, lipid peroxidation rate, soil Cu, Cd and Pb biomarkers, indicating that heavy metals pollution is a major source for genotoxicity in these plant species. Finally, our results approved the feasibility of using plants and Comet assay system as a diagnostic tool for pollution in any environment adversely affected by different pollution sources. 相似文献
