the control-loop of human body-temperature is treated as a distributed-parameter-system. The equations of heat-balance are formulated, admitting discontinuities of parameters. Using two succeeding integral-transformations and an expansion with eigenfunctions, an analytical solution is found for the closed control-loop. Abstract The effects of two commercial chitin synthesis inhibitors, dimilin and polyoxin D, on chitin fiber formation and cell sedimentation for the diatoms Thalassiosira fluviatilis and Cyclotella cryptica (Bacillariophyceae) were investigated. Dimilin treatments for both diatom species were indistinguishable from controls in terms of chitin fiber productions, cell density and sedimentation. Polyoxin D-treated cells of both diatom species completely lacked the characteristic chitin fibers. Polyoxin D cultures were also characterized by a significant decrease in population density, increased sedimentation rates and a strong tendency to clump in comparison with control and dimilin treatments. It was concluded that (1) dimilin does not directly inhibit chitin synthesis in diatoms; (2) polyoxin-D inhibits β-chitin fibril formation, and (3) chitin fibers play an important role in cell separation and cell buoyancy. 相似文献

Abstract. The metamorphosis of planula larvae of the hydroid, Hydractinia , into primary polyps can be artificially triggered by Li, Rb, and Cs ions, by tumor-promoting phorbol esters [14], and by diacylglycerols. Metamorphosis implies the transition of morphogenetically quiescent cells to a state of terminal differentiation or transdifferentiation. Among the events which occur during the first 2.5 h after induction is an increase in the level of activity of a protein kinase that is precipitated by antisera against Rous sarcoma virus-derived pp60src and that phosphorylates tyrosine in the precipitated IgG. Immunoprecipitation using a preimmune serum did not yield any corresponding kinase activity. We applied a 15N dilution technique called “Integrated Total Nitrogen Input” (ITNI) to quantify annual atmospheric N input into a peatland surrounded by intensive agricultural practices over a 2-year period. Grass species and grass growth effects on atmospheric N deposition were investigated using Lolium multiflorum and Eriophorum vaginatum and different levels of added N resulting in increased biomass production. Plant biomass production was positively correlated with atmospheric N uptake (up to 102.7 mg N pot−1) when using Lolium multiflorum. In contrast, atmospheric N deposition to Eriophorum vaginatum did not show a clear dependency to produced biomass and ranged from 81.9 to 138.2 mg N pot−1. Both species revealed a relationship between atmospheric N input and total biomass N contents. Airborne N deposition varied from about 24 to 55 kg N ha−1 yr−1. Partitioning of airborne N within the monitor system differed such that most of the deposited N was found in roots of Eriophorum vaginatum while the highest share was allocated in aboveground biomass of Lolium multiflorum. Compared to other approaches determining atmospheric N deposition, ITNI showed highest airborne N input and an up to fivefold exceedance of the ecosystem-specific critical load of 5–10 kg N ha−1 yr−1. 相似文献

Cytochrome (cyt) b561 proteins are dihaem-containing membrane proteins, belonging to the CYBASC (cytochrome-b561-ascorbate-reducible) family, and are proposed to be involved in ascorbate recycling and/or the facilitation of iron absorption. Here, we present the heterologous production of two cyt b561 paralogs from Arabidopsis thaliana (Acytb561-A, Acytb561-B) in Escherichia coli and Pichia pastoris, their purification, and initial characterisation. Spectra indicated that Acytb561-A resembles the best characterised member of the CYBASC family, the cytochrome b561 from adrenomedullary chromaffin vesicles, and that Acytb561-B is atypical compared to other CYBASC proteins. Haem oxidation–reduction midpoint potential (EM) values were found to be fully consistent with ascorbate oxidation activities and Fe3 +-chelates reductase activities. The ascorbate dependent reduction and protein stability of both paralogs were found to be sensitive to alkaline pH values as reported for the cytochrome b561 from chromaffin vesicles. For both paralogs, ascorbate-dependent reduction was inhibited and the low-potential haem EM values were affected significantly by incubation with diethyl pyrocarbonate (DEPC) in the absence of ascorbate. Modification with DEPC in the presence of ascorbate left the haem EM values unaltered compared to the unmodified proteins. However, ascorbate reduction was inhibited. We concluded that the ascorbate-binding site is located near the low-potential haem with the Fe3 +-chelates reduction-site close to the high-potential haem. Furthermore, inhibition of ascorbate oxidation by DEPC treatment occurs not only by lowering the haem EM values but also by an additional modification affecting ascorbate binding and/or electron transfer.
