Scavengers can have strong impacts on food webs, and awareness of their role in ecosystems has increased during the last decades. In our study, we used baited camera traps to quantify the structure of the winter scavenger community in central Scandinavia across a forest–alpine continuum and assess how climatic conditions affected spatial patterns of species occurrences at baits. Canonical correspondence analysis revealed that the main habitat type (forest or alpine tundra) and snow depth was main determinants of the community structure. According to a joint species distribution model within the HMSC framework, species richness tended to be higher in forest than in alpine tundra habitat, but was only weakly associated with temperature and snow depth. However, we observed stronger and more diverse impacts of these covariates on individual species. Occurrence at baits by habitat generalists (red fox, golden eagle, and common raven) typically increased at low temperatures and high snow depth, probably due to increased energetic demands and lower abundance of natural prey in harsh winter conditions. On the contrary, occurrence at baits by forest specialists (e.g., Eurasian jay) tended to decrease in deep snow, which is possibly a consequence of reduced bait detectability and accessibility. In general, the influence of environmental covariates on species richness and occurrence at baits was lower in alpine tundra than in forests, and habitat generalists dominated the scavenger communities in both forest and alpine tundra. Following forecasted climate change, altered environmental conditions are likely to cause range expansion of boreal species and range contraction of typical alpine species such as the arctic fox. Twenty-three Fusarium culmorum and 21 F. graminearumisolates were studied for their ability to produce mycotoxins and other secondary metabolites. The strains were cultivated
on rice, and the extracts analysed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) after derivatization with pentafluoropropionic
(PFP) reagent. Two F. culmorum strains formed nivalenol and its acetylated derivatives (chemotype II), while all F. graminearum and the otherF. culmorum isolates produced deoxynivalenol (DON) via 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol (3-acetyl-DON) (chemotype IA). 15-hydroxy-culmorin, followed
by 5-hydroxy-culmorin were the main other metabolites produced F. culmorum, while 5-, 12- and an unidentified hydroxy-culmorin, suggested to be 14-hydroxy-culmorin, were the main metabolites of F. graminearum. The hydroxy-culmorin profile was found to be significantly different for the two Fusarium species. Minor amounts of about ten other hydroxy-culmorins, four hydroxy-culmorones and 3,13-dihydroxy-epiapotrichothecene
were also detected in most cultures. Traces of sambucinol seemed to be present in some of the isolates, but were not detected
in any significant amounts. The precursors in the biosynthetic sequence to 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol,7,8-dihydroxycalonectrin
and 15-deacetyl-7,8-dihydroxycalonectrin,were detected in most cultures. We also report the assignment of both the 1H and13C NMR data of 15-deacetyl-7,8-dihydroxycalonectrin, which has only been reported incorrectly before.

Lemmings are involved in several important functions in the Arctic ecosystem. The Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus) can be divided into two discrete ecotypes: “lemming foxes” and “coastal foxes”. Crashes in lemming abundance can result
in pulses of “lemming fox” movement across the Arctic sea ice and immigration into coastal habitats in search for food. These
pulses can influence the genetic structure of the receiving population. We have tested the impact of immigration on the genetic
structure of the “coastal fox” population in Svalbard by recording microsatellite variation in seven loci for 162 Arctic foxes
sampled during the summer and winter over a 5-year period. Genetic heterogeneity and temporal genetic shifts, as inferred
by STRUCTURE simulations and deviations from Hardy–Weinberg proportions, respectively, were recorded. Maximum likelihood estimates
of movement as well as STRUCTURE simulations suggested that both immigration and genetic mixture are higher in Svalbard than
in the neighbouring “lemming fox” populations. The STRUCTURE simulations and AMOVA revealed there are differences in genetic
composition of the population between summer and winter seasons, indicating that immigrants are not present in the reproductive
portion of the Svalbard population. Based on these results, we conclude that Arctic fox population structure varies with time
and is influenced by immigration from neighbouring populations. The lemming cycle is likely an important factor shaping Arctic
fox movement across sea ice and the subsequent population genetic structure, but is also likely to influence local adaptation

The peptide hormone gastrin is an important factor for the maintenance and homeostasis of the gastric mucosa. We show that gastrin stimulates proliferation in a dose-dependent manner in the human gastric adenocarcinoma cell line AGS-GR. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the MAPK scaffold protein MEK partner 1 (MP1) is important for gastrin-induced phosphorylation of ERK1 and ERK2 and that MP1 promotes gastrin-induced proliferation of AGS-GR cells. Our results suggest a role of MP1 in gastrin-induced cellular responses involved in proliferation and homeostasis of the gastric mucosa. 相似文献

The yeast FET3 gene encodes an integral membrane multicopper oxidase required for high-affinity iron uptake. The FET4 gene encodes an Fe(II) transporter required for low-affinity uptake. To identify other yeast genes involved in iron uptake,
we isolated genes that could, when overexpressed, suppress the iron-limited growth defect of a fet3 fet4 mutant. The FET5 gene was isolated in this screen and it encodes a multicopper oxidase closely related to Fet3p. Several observations indicate
that Fet5p plays a role analogous to Fet3p in iron transport. Suppression of the fet3 fet4 mutant phenotype by FET5 overexpression required the putative FTR1 transporter subunit of the high-affinity system. Fet5p is an integral membrane protein whose oxidase domain is located on
the cell surface or within an intracellular compartment. Oxidase activity measured in cells with altered levels of FET5 expression suggested that Fet5p is a functional oxidase. FET5 overexpression increased the rate of iron uptake by a novel uptake system. Finally, FET5 mRNA levels are regulated by iron and are increased in cells grown in iron-limited media. These results suggest that Fet5p
normally plays a role in the transport of iron.

Microalgae in the division Haptophyta play key roles in the marine ecosystem and in global biogeochemical processes. Despite their ecological importance, knowledge on seasonal dynamics, community composition and abundance at the species level is limited due to their small cell size and few morphological features visible under the light microscope. Here, we present unique data on haptophyte seasonal diversity and dynamics from two annual cycles, with the taxonomic resolution and sampling depth obtained with high‐throughput sequencing. From outer Oslofjorden, S Norway, nano‐ and picoplanktonic samples were collected monthly for 2 years, and the haptophytes targeted by amplification of RNA/cDNA with Haptophyta‐specific 18S rDNA V4 primers. We obtained 156 operational taxonomic units (OTUs), from c. 400.000 454 pyrosequencing reads, after rigorous bioinformatic filtering and clustering at 99.5%. Most OTUs represented uncultured and/or not yet 18S rDNA‐sequenced species. Haptophyte OTU richness and community composition exhibited high temporal variation and significant yearly periodicity. Richness was highest in September–October (autumn) and lowest in April–May (spring). Some taxa were detected all year, such as Chrysochromulina simplex, Emiliania huxleyi and Phaeocystis cordata, whereas most calcifying coccolithophores only appeared from summer to early winter. We also revealed the seasonal dynamics of OTUs representing putative novel classes (clades HAP‐3–5) or orders (clades D, E, F). Season, light and temperature accounted for 29% of the variation in OTU composition. Residual variation may be related to biotic factors, such as competition and viral infection. This study provides new, in‐depth knowledge on seasonal diversity and dynamics of haptophytes in North Atlantic coastal waters. 相似文献

Zinc is an essential micronutrient. Genes responsible for zinc uptake have now been identified from yeast and plants. These genes belong to an extended family of cation transporters called the ZIP gene family. Zinc efflux genes that belong to another transporter family, the CDF family, have also been identified in yeast and Arabidopsis. This study aims to assess the degree of regularity in the effect of patch size and patch shape on plant species richness across a macroscale region, and to evaluate the implications for nature conservation.
Our study area covers south-eastern Norway and contains 16 agricultural landscapes with 2162 patches.
To analyse regularity a local linear mixed model (LLMM) was applied. This procedure estimates the richness trends due to shared effects of size and shape, and simultaneously provides the landscape-specific random effect. The latter is a direct estimate of the degree of irregularity between the landscapes, conditioned on specific values of size and shape.
The results show a positive interaction between the shape and size of patches, which is repeated for all landscapes. The shape of the patches produces more regular patterns in species richness than the size of patches. This we attribute to effects of dispersal and distance to neighbouring patches of different environmentally conditioned species pools. Large and complex patches have shorter average distance to neighbouring patches (of different types) than large simple-shaped (circular) patches have. We attribute the higher species richness of the former, given a similar area, to a higher number of species dispersed from the outside into the more complex plot. For small patches, however, the distance to the edge is short relative to normal dispersal distances, for patches of all shapes. This explains why the positive effect of shape complexity on species richness is stronger for large patches. This interpretation is supported by a strong spatial correlation conditioned on the most complex patches.
Theories of dynamics in biodiversity in patchy landscapes must consider shape as a regulator at the same level as size, and both shape and size of patches should be simultaneously taken into account for management planning. 相似文献

Two different methods for Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) applied to the dairy industry was performed at two dairies. In the simplified
method, total environmental loads from a dairy was registred and allocated to liquid milk. Energy and emissions are measured
for each process step for the detailed method. Both methods have advantages and disadvantages. The simplified method captures
all energy and emissions of dairy processing, but treats the dairy as a “black box”. The energy consumption was found to be
1, 27 MJ/1 and 2,55 MJ/1 for the two dairies. By use of the detailed method it is easy to “loose” information, and it is very
time consuming. The energy consumption was lower than for the simplified method. The environmental loads can on the other
hand be divided on the different process steps. The main conclusion is that choice of method depends on the purpose of the
