The cytogenetics of domestic geese

Hybrids were produced between an African male and several Pilgrim female domestic geese. Partial karyotypes revealed a difference in the fourth largest pair of autosomal chromosomes. This chromosome pair was metacentric in the African, submetacentric in the Pilgrim, and heteromorphic in the hybrids. A similar difference between the putative wild ancestors of the African and Pilgrim breeds has been reported by others. These findings provide cytological evidence to support the traditional opinion that the African breed was derived from the Asiatic swan goose (Anser cygnoides) and the Pilgrim breed was derived from the European greylag goose (Anser anser).     

Crystallization of a small fragment of an aminoacyl tRNA synthetase

Single crystals of an amino-terminal fragment of Escherichia coli alanine tRNA synthetase have been prepared by the vapor diffusion method. The fragment extends to amino acid residue 368 and catalyzes the synthesis of alanyl adenylate. The crystals grow in the presence of alanine as rhombic plates in space group P2(1)2(1)2(1) and with unit cell dimensions of a = 67.9 A, b = 98.5 A and c = 123.6 A (1 A = 0.1 nm). They diffract to better than 3 A resolution.     

Effect of hemorrhage on plasma atriopeptin levels in conscious dogs

An increase in atrial pressure has been shown to cause an increase in the concentration of atrial peptides (atriopeptin) in plasma. We therefore hypothesized that a reduction in atrial pressure would decrease the concentration of atriopeptin in plasma. In formulating this hypothesis we assumed that changes in the concentration of other circulating hormones or changes in cardiac nerve activity during hemorrhage would not affect the secretion of atriopeptin. To test the hypothesis, we bled sham-operated conscious dogs at a rate of 0.8 ml.kg-1.min-1 to decrease right and left atrial pressures. Hemorrhage was continued until a total of 30 ml of blood per kilogram body weight had been removed. Identical experiments were performed on conscious cardiac-denervated dogs. The concentration of plasma atriopeptin was decreased in each group of dogs after 10 ml of blood per kilogram of body weight had been removed, but the decrease achieved statistical significance only in the cardiac-denervated dogs. Further hemorrhage, however, produced no further decreases in circulating atriopeptin in either group even though atrial pressures continued to decline as more blood was removed. A comparison of the atriopeptin response to hemorrhage revealed no significant difference between the sham-operated and cardiac-denervated dogs, thus providing no evidence for a specific effect of cardiac nerves on atriopeptin secretion during hemorrhage. Our results demonstrate that the relationship between atrial pressure and plasma atriopeptin that has been observed repeatedly during atrial stretch is not evident during relatively slow, prolonged hemorrhage. There is, however, a small decline in circulating atriopeptin during the initial stage of hemorrhage that could be of biological significance.     

A high-salt meal produces natriuresis in humans without elevating plasma atriopeptin

The effects of a high-sodium meal on plasma atrial natriuretic peptide (atriopeptin) and renal sodium excretion were studied in eight normal human subjects. As expected, sodium excretion and urine osmolality increased following the meal. Plasma atriopeptin levels did not increase, however, after the high-sodium meal. In a control experiment, consumption of a low-sodium meal by six of the same subjects did not increase either urinary sodium excretion or plasma atriopeptin concentration. We conclude that the natriuresis elicited by a high-salt meal is not mediated by the atrial peptides.     

Applied anatomy of the anterolateral femoral flap

A study of the source of the blood supply to the anterolateral femoral flap was carried out on 42 lower limbs of adult cadavers (among them 35 cadavers with injection of red latex and 1 with india ink into the arteries and 6 vascular cast specimens), and the surface locations of the vascular pedicle were detected on 50 healthy adults. It was found that the descending branch of the lateral circumflex femoral vessel was an ideal axial vessel. There are constant perforating branches of the myocutaneous artery or cutaneous branches from the intermuscular space to the anterolateral femoral skin. The area extends about 12 x 30 cm. Within the flap, the anterior branch of the anterolateral cutaneous nerve of the high is located. This flap has been widely used for free transplantation in China since 1983 with satisfactory results.     

区别人小细胞肺癌和非小细胞肺癌的LSC系列单克隆抗体(简报)

人小细胞肺癌的发病率虽不及非小细胞肺癌,但其五年生存率却相对低得多,这两种细胞类型不仅在病理类型上表现不同,在许多其它性质上也表现不同。小细胞肺癌是一种异质性疾病,它由几种形态不同的瘤细胞组成,包括非小细胞肺癌在内;它易早期转移,能在肝、脑和骨髓中繁殖,具有L-Dopa胱羧酶,神经原特异的烯醇化酶(enolase),能合成神经递质和多肽激素蛙皮肽等特性。目前已有关于小细胞肺癌的单克隆抗体的报道,我们采用美国N I H建立的小细胞肺癌细胞株SH-77作免疫原,目前尚未见有关抗该细胞株的单克隆抗体的报道,现将我们制备的三个单抗体及其初步特异性鉴定结果简报如下     

三个与agropine合成相关的基因在大肠杆菌微细胞中的表达

pTiAch 5 TR区与在植物中积累agropine相关的三个基因片段已导入pINIIA或pACYC184,在大肠杆菌微细胞中表达出杂合蛋白。三个基因片段的pINIIA重组质粒的表达得到稳定蛋白、不稳定蛋白和在两个相表达出相似蛋白的三种结果。基因2'HindⅢ片段上的UGAA序列是在两个相表达相似蛋白的原因。从产生的杂合蛋白分子量和读码方式看,pTiAch 5中基因2'和基因1'的结构与pTi 15955近似,但由基因0'片段产生的杂合蛋白分子量比根据pTi15955 DNA序列数据推测的稍大。从表达强度和微细胞操作看,这个系统还不适应从大肠杆菌中方便地纯化杂合蛋白的需要。
