Membrane fractions of the mycelial form of Mucor rouxii contained endogenous polyuronides and glycoproteins with sugar compositions similar to the cell wall polyuronide (mucoran) and extracellular (wall and filtrate) glycoproteins, respectively. The polyuronide pool was rapidly labeled with D-[U-14C]glucose and on pulse-chase experiments appeared to turn over, suggesting that these polymers were precursors of the wall mucoran. In contrast, the glycoproteins appeared to accumulate. Although the membrane-associated glycoproteins had molecular weights similar to those of the extracellular glycoproteins, the bulk of the membrane-associated polyuronides were of a molecular weight lower than that of the wall polyuronide. 相似文献

Cryptic genes are silenced genes that can still be reactivated by mutation.
Since they can make no positive contribution to the fitness of their
carriers, it is not clear why many cryptic genes in microbial populations
have not degenerated into useless DNA sequences. Hall et al. (1983) have
suggested that cryptic genes have persisted because of occasional strong
environmental selection for reactivated genes. The present mathematical
study supports their suggestion. It shows that a cryptic gene can be
retained without having any selective advantage over a useless DNA
sequence, if selection for the reactivated gene occasionally occurs for a
substantially long time.

We have previously demonstrated that the concentrations of immunoreactive atrial natriuretic peptide (IR-ANP) are significantly higher in hypophysial portal compared with peripheral blood of the rat, and that ANP suppresses the pituitary release of ACTH and β-endorphin in vitro and in vivo. Using HPLC, we have now shown that the predominant species of IR-ANP in extracts of portal blood from adult male and female rats is ANP(5–28), whereas in peripheral blood, ANP(1–28) predominates. The ratio of ANP(5–28) in portal compared with peripheral blood was 4.2 in male and 4.8 in female animals. 相似文献
