1. Somatic action potentials of Lymnaea neurons are modified by excitatory or inhibitory synaptic inputs and have been studied using phase-plane techniques and an action potential duration monitor. 2. Excitatory synaptic inputs increase the rate of neuronal discharge, cause action potential broadening, a decrease in the maximum rate of depolarization (Vd) and a decrease in the maximum rate of repolarization (Vr). 3. Inhibitory synaptic inputs decrease the discharge rate and cause narrowing of action potentials, an increase in Vd and an increase in Vr. 4. The effects reported above outlast the original synaptic inputs by many seconds and, if the somatic action potentials are similar to those in the axon terminals, they may have far-reaching effects on transmitter release. 相似文献

A computerised system for chronic in vivo monitoring of genital tract pressure in the ewe is described. Solid-state, catheter-tipped pressure transducers were surgically implanted in the uterine tube (ampulla), ipsilateral uterine horn and abdomen of five non-pregnant parous ewes. The catheters were connected to a portable computer which recorded the pressure at each location once per second and was programmed to analyse the data as mean pressure and area under the contraction curve over given periods. The catheters remained implanted for up to 129 days and 252 daily recordings were made. Analysis of spontaneous activity showed little variation in mean pressure of work done over four successive ten-minute periods. Although the amplitude of uterine contractions varied quite dramatically, chiefly in relation to variation in the plasma progesterone concentration, ampullary activity was unaffected by such changes. Genital tract pressures did not appear to be influenced by abdominal events. The catheters provoked minimal tissue reaction, and it is suggested that the system is suitable for chronic in vivo recording of genital tract pressure in the ewe. 相似文献

Enzyme loci located on chromosome J and U were mapped cytologically by means of a Y translocation technique. A linkage map of the two chromosomes was established in a parallel experiment and the recombination frequency in different regions of the chromosomes determined. A comparison of the cytogenetic localization of the enzyme genes in D. subobscura and D. melanogaster indicates that many paracentric inversions must have taken place in the course of divergent evolution. However, no displacements of genes from one element to another due to pericentric inversions, reciprocal translocations or transposing elements can be observed. In spite of the large number of structural rearrangements that have occurred in the phylogeny of the genus Drosophila, gross similarities of banding pattern in homologous regions of the chromosomes of the two species become apparent. 相似文献

During vegetative growth, glutamine is accumulated in the mycelium of Neurospora crassa. This high pool of glutamine seems to be required for aerial mycelium growth. Enzymes responsible for the synthesis and catabolism of glutamine were measured before and during the partial transformation of a mycelial mat into aerial mycelium. In the transforming mycelial mat,considerable activities of the biosynthetic NADP-glutamate dehydrogenase and glutamine synthetase (predominantly β polypeptide) and also some activity of glutamate synthase were observed. In the aerial mycelium, glutamine synthetase (predominantly β polypeptide) was detected, but very low activities of NADP-glutamate dehydrogenase and glutamate mycelium could derive from glutamine. No glutaminase activity could be detected. It is suggested that glutamate is formed through the activities of the glutamine transaminase-ω -amidase pathway and another transaminase. High activities of glutamine and alanine transaminases were observed in the aerial mycelium. These results are discussed in terms of the possible role of glutamine as a nitrogen carrier from the mycelium to the growing aerial hyphae. 相似文献

The gizzard of earthworms is definitely of endodermal origin. Contrary to the opinion that tissue of endodermal origin is unable to synthesize chitin, the gizzard epithelium secretes large amounts of chitin-containing material which has special properties. 28.7 +/- 5.7% of the dry weight proved to be chitin; the microfibres form a random felt-like texture. They are not arranged in layers comparable to those found in arthropod cuticle. The protein content amounts to 44.9 +/- 7.1% of the dry weight; the remaining material contains at least uronic acids. In the protein matrix large amounts of the enzymes amylase and protease have been demonstrated. As the so-called cuticle is sloughed off at the lumen side, these enzymes are mingled with the gut contents. It might be called a gastric shield, as it closely resembles this structure, widespread among Mollusca. The thickness of the gizzard cuticle varies between 10 and 90 mum in Lumbricus terrestris and 10-50 mum in L. rubellus. Autoradiography has shown that it is replaced at a high rate. In Lumbricus terrestris it is renewed completely in less than 60 hr, and in smaller Lumbricus rubellus, this takes place in about 48 hr.
