We quickly form first impressions about newly encountered people guiding our subsequent behaviour (approach, avoidance). Such instant judgments might be innate and automatic, being performed unconsciously and independently to other cognitive processes. Lying detection might be subject to such a modular process. Unfortunately, numerous studies highlighted problems with lying detection paradigms such as high error rates and learning effects. Additionally, humans should be motivated doing both detecting others’ lies and disguising own lies. Disguising own lies might even be more challenging than detecting other people’s lies. Thus, when trying to disguise cheating behaviour, liars might display a mixture of disguising (fake) trust cues and uncontrolled lying cues making the interpretation of the expression difficult (perceivers are guessing). In two consecutive online studies, we tested whether seeing an increasing amount (range 0–4) of lying cues (LC) and non-lying cues (NLC) on a standard face results in enhanced guessing behaviour (studies 1 and 2) and that enhanced guessing is accompanied by slower responding (study 2). Results showed that pronounced guessing and slowest responding occurred for faces with an intermediate number and not with the highest number of LC and NLC. In particular, LC were more important than NLC to uncertain lying decisions. Thus, only a few LC may interfere with automatic processing of lying detection (irrespective of NLC), probably because too little lying cue information is yet available.  相似文献

Dehydrins are intrinsically unstructured proteins that are expressed in plants experiencing extreme environmental conditions such as drought or low temperature. Although their role is not completely understood, it has been suggested that they stabilize proteins and membrane structures during environmental stress and also sequester metals such as zinc. Here, we investigate two dehydrins (denoted as TsDHN-1 and TsDHN-2) from Thellungiella salsuginea. This plant is a crucifer that thrives in the Canadian sub-Arctic (Yukon Territory) where it grows on saline-rich soils and experiences periods of both extreme cold and drought. We show using circular dichroism and attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy that ordered secondary structure is induced and stabilized in these proteins, both in free and vesicle-bound form, by association with zinc. In membrane-associated form, both proteins have an increased proportion of β-strand conformation induced by the cation, in addition to the amphipathic α-helices formed by their constituent K-segments. These results support the hypothesis that dehydrins stabilize plant plasma and organellar membranes in conditions of stress, and further that zinc may be an important co-factor in stabilization. Whereas dehydrins in the cytosol of a plant cell undergoing dehydration or temperature stress form bulk hydrogels and remain primarily disordered, dehydrins with specific membrane- or protein-associations will have induced ordered secondary structures.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the involvement of eosinophil cationic protein, a marker of eosinophil activation, in the development of in-stent restenosis after drug-eluting stent implantation. Follow-up angiography at 6 to 12?months was performed in 32 patients who were treated with percutaneous coronary intervention and implantation of sirolimus-eluting stents. Blood plasma levels of eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) and total immunoglobulin E (IgE) were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and the level of C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) by high-sensitivity nephelometry. According to angiography data, in-stent restenosis occurred in 13 patients, while 19 patients did not develop it. There were no differences between the hs-CRP and IgE levels in patients with or without restenosis. In contrast, ECP level was higher in patients with restenosis compared with that in patients without restenosis [17.7?ng/mL (11.2-24.0) vs. 9.0?ng/mL (6.4-12.9), p?= 0.017]. The incidence of in-stent restenoses was 63% in patients with ECP level higher than or equal to 11?ng/mL, and 19% in patients with an ECP level lower than 11?ng/mL (p?= 0.019). These findings suggest that elevated eosinophil activation may play an important role in the pathogenesis of in-stent restenosis after implantation of drug-eluting stents.  相似文献

The associations of the water-soluble cationic copper(II)-5,10,15,20-meso-tetrakis(4-N-methylpyridyl) porphyrin (CuP) with d(pT)9 oligothymidylate and its building blocks deoxythymidine (dT) and deoxythymidine 5'-monophosphate (dTMP) were investigated by spectrophotometric titration [absorption, nanosecond transient resonance Raman (ns-RR) and picosecond time-resolved resonance Raman (ps-TR3) spectroscopies] to elucidate the structural requirements for the CuP exciplex formation in molecular complexes with unchained mononucleotides. In the d(pT)9 a factor analysis and global fit of the CuP absorption spectra revealed the formation of a single spectral species attributable to a 1 : 1 CuP. d(pT)9 complex throughout a wide range of d(pT)9/CuP ratios (0-10). Using ps-TR3 spectroscopy, the CuP. d(pT)9 complex was shown to be fully responsible for exciplex formation. In contrast, CuP mixed with dTMP ([dTMP]/[CuP] < 3000) yielded two spectroscopically distinct types of molecular complexes with 1 : 1 (CuP. dTMP) and 1 : 2 (CuP. (dTMP)2) (or even higher for [dTMP]/[CuP] > 3000) stoichiometry, the latter being spectroscopically identical to the CuP. d(pT)9 and providing a microenvironment favorable for exciplex formation to the same extent as the oligothymidylate. On the other hand, the 1 : 1 CuP. dTMP complex (prevailing for [dTMP]/[CuP] < 100) yielded no exciplex features. Similar behavior was observed for the CuP complexed with dT. To explain the difference in the ability of the CuP. dTMP and CuP. (dTMP)2 species to form the exciplex, two types of molecular complexes were suggested and discussed, differing in the orientation of the thymine planes with respect to the porphyrin macrocycle.  相似文献

Cytotoxic exogenous RNases triggering apoptotic response in malignant cells have potential as anticancer drugs; surprisingly, detailed characterization of the RNase-induced apoptosis has not been conducted so far. Here we show that a cytotoxic RNase from Bacillus intermedius (binase) induces extrinsic and intrinsic apoptotic pathways in leukemic Kasumi-1 cells. The experiments were performed using TaqMan Array Human Apoptosis 96-well Plate for gene expression analysis, and flow cytometry. Cytometric studies demonstrated dissipation of the mitochondrial membrane potential, opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pores, activation of caspases, increase of intracellular Ca2+ and decrease of reactive oxygen species levels. We found that expression of 62 apoptotic genes is up-regulated, including 16 genes that are highly up-regulated, and only one gene was found to be down-regulated. The highest, 16 fold increase of the expression level was observed for TNF gene. Highly up-regulated genes also include the non-canonical NF-κB signaling pathway and inflammatory caspases 1,4. The obtained results suggest that binase induces evolutionary acquired cellular response to a microbial agent and triggers unusual apoptosis pathway.  相似文献
